  1. If they are so worried about security, call up the TSA for some x-ray machines and they would be all set. X-rays thankfully do not see color.
  2. I hire 20-30 people every year, and to accomplish that task I will have to review 1000's of resumes to narrow down to those that will be scheduled for an interview. The most important part, Keep it to ONE page. Bullet points only. Where you worked and how long you worked there. Resumes I throw out immediately: Books with tons of extra garbage included. Job Hoppers (people that have had 10 different jobs in 10 years) If they didnt stay at one of the previous jobs for more than a year, why would they stay here If I hire. Resumes with large gaps in time. Example: Worked Job A from 1999 - 2005, Job B 2009 - Present. Ok what happened in the 4 year gap? Not updated, these get tossed in phone screens when I schedule interviews. "I see you are currently working at XYZ company?" Answer "No, I need to update my resume, I currently work for or I am currently unemployed". Good bye is my normal response. If you dont care to update your resume, you don't really want a job. Good luck in your search.
  3. English as 2nd language is the most difficult transition I believe for our spouses. Difficult to interview effectively if you are not fully understanding the questions being asked and cannot communicate effectively. My wife was a wedding planner in China and had solid business going. After she came here we found it difficult for her to get work and she finally took a job as a cashier at the local Chinese grocery store. She had to stand all day and was getting paid minimum wage and the hours were horrible. One of her friends suggest she work in a nail saloon. Personally I didn't see how this would be better but she was committed to trying so she went to a few saloons and found one that would let her learn though she would not get paid while learning. She learned quickly, got her license and now she makes $120 a day plus tips and good weeks she is breaking $1500. Best part she is sitting all day, and when there is no customers she can talk on here phone or QQ. Obviously she would rather be doing wedding planning, but this job is a good compromise.
  4. You mention you would eventually return to China to live once you both have US citizenship? Keep in mind your wife would not be allowed to have dual citizenship and owning property in China is difficult without a Chinese citizen or business having some attachment to the property. Just something to keep in mind for the long term.
  5. Keep in mind you need to spend the money to qualify for the miles, so if you are already planning to buy something large 5000-10000 dollars. You could put it on the card and than pay it off before interest hits to get the miles. I avoid having balances on my credit cards, but I will routinely buy items on cards I have for cash back bonuses and than pay the card promptly the day after I purchase the item. Bank of America has several revolving deals where you can get 15% cash back from stores if you use at right time. The process of opening a new credit account and than quickly closing it will defintily hit your credit ratiing for a time. Closing accounts actually hurts your rating, stupid as it sounds.
  6. Actually I would recommend not buying anything for the kitchen. Most things I purchased prior to my wifes arrival now sit in storage boxes in the basement. "Stupid man thank you try to buy this, but this one not right" You can clean like crazy, but that first few days when you go to work and she is home alone. Don't be surprised what you come home to. My 90lb 4ft nothing wife re-arranged the entire house, every piece of furniture by herself (still havent figured out how she did it) the first 2 days I was at work.
  7. I routinely tell my wife China has generated an entire generation of spoiled brats. The 1 child generation will be China's downfall as they get older and start becoming the countries leaders because much like generations in USA, the 1 child generation is a entitlement generation, believing everything will be given to them and hard work means nothing.
  8. Loved this, it is so correct.
  9. T-Mobile, Have 3 phones on T-mobile, total bill monthly for everything including unlimited calls to China mobiles or landlines $165. That includes unlimited calls and texts, and 3GB of 4G data per phone. Over 3GB they don't charge you more they just slow it down. Yes you do need to buy your phones outright, but you can buy your phones in China and they will work here on T-Mobile. China purchased phones will NOT work on Verizon and Sprint as neither will use a unlocked phones. Have to watch coverage with T-Mobile, we had friend on T-mobile so when they were at house made sure it was 4G in the house. The other advantage is wifi calling. Have had zero problems. Perviously had Sprint for 2 phones and was paying more for everything.
  10. This website will not cause 1 more case of adultery than if the website did not exist. Freedom of expression and speech is fundamental to free society, and this is outrageous or more shocking than the millions of porn websites on the internet? People have been committing adultery since the dawn of man, and they will continue until the earth is swallowed by the expanding sun. I think it is more outrageous that people are trying to block the site, do they really want censorship of what they have access to on the internet? You lived in China, did you enjoy being told what you could and could not access on the news or internet? Allowing people to block a website that is not causing any physical harm to anyone is the slippery slope that you never crawl back up.
  11. My wife signed everything in chinese, and she still does today even on electronic credit card machines.
  12. My wife stuffed a suitcase so full I couldnt even move it, she tells me to put it on the scale so I break my back getting it on the bathroom scale and it shows 49. She is all proud saying "see it is only 49lbs" I respond to her "The scale is in Kilos" I was still wrong at the end of the discussion.
  13. The fact that you sponsered another woman already, regardless of timeline is a big red flag. I have been down that road and it is a difficult and long road. I would highly recommend you not send in your application until you have proved your case beyond doubt. Lay out your evidence and timeline, put yourself in the VO's shoes and try to think of any questions they may ask, and send in evidence to answer the question. Remember in immigration you are quilty until proven innocent, which is the number 1 problem with our immigration system.
  14. I have owned my own modem for years, I would never rent. Cable companies throttle your data flow through your modem based on which service you are purchasing from them. Buy your own modem and you then have the fastest internet they provide since they cannot control speed anymore. I have done this with both comcast and Time Warner. Just set up cable at our new house, and this is the game Time Warner tried. TW:We need to set up for a technician to come to your home ME: Why, all the wiring is already in place and I am watching TV right now from the previous owner. TW: Technician needs to install the modem ME: No, I have my own modem, which is why I am watching TV right now TW: OK, we can do remotely, what is your modem password? ME: Unknown TW: Unknown, u n k n o w n? ME: No, unknown meaning I dont know the password (I lied) TW: Oh ok, let me try to ping your cable box ME: Go ahead TW: Appears everything is working ME: Thanks, goodbye They want your password to change your modem settings, has nothing to do with set up. The only thing they need for set up is serial numbers of the modem. 35MB down / 15MB up speeds, better then Time Warner actually offers in this area. If on Time Warner modem, basic would be 10MB down / 1.5MB up. Last note, dont buy your modem from the cable company, just go to Newegg or Tigerdirect and you can buy the same exact modems for half the cost.
  15. Religion and Natural Resources: They should be listed as the number 1 killers in the world ahead of heart disease. The islands in question have no value, it is what is under the islands and the surrounding water everyone is after, a huge natural gas field sits below that area. So now we have another case of countries bickering over natrual resources. Another case of not paying attention to history and why history always repeats itself. The Middle East has been a quagmire for 100's of years because of religion and Oil/Gas Japan attacked the USA during WWII because we shut off their oil supplies and they were running out. Germany attacked the rest of the world twice because of resources they did not have within their borders, and ironically only lost both wars because they ran out of Oil/Gas. It is almost impossible in history to find a war that was not fought over natural resources or religious beliefs even going back the Crusades. Abolish religion and someone please finally invent room temperature fusion and wars would cease almost overnight
  16. Girl above is pretty famous cosplayer in Korea http://spcatstasha.deviantart.com/
  17. Item 4 should read, 4. If you want to give your spouse a heart attack, practice with your spouse as the passenger.
  18. My wife is very particular about skin care lotions and make up she uses, we gave up on finding acceptable things in the States and she now has her sister send her a 6 month supply via the post office. If your wife has friends or family that can do the shopping for her in China and ship it here, even with shipping it will be cheaper than buying the expensive things at Macy's etc.
  19. Passport should be the only original document they need, notarized copies should suffice for all other documents
  20. Downtown Chongqing, Only place in the world you can stand in one place and turn 360 degrees on any day, or night and in one turn see over 100 women that are drop dead beautful. My wife always jokes that when I am old and retired she is going to put a chair in Chongqing center and each day I can sit on my chair and watch the beautiful women.
  21. The customs declaration form is in Chinese, one side English, one side Chinese.
  22. The phones are not live people, if you really want to talk to someone about your case you will have much better success just making an infopass appointment at your local office (if you are not to far away). The people on the phones are just minimum wage operators with pre scripted responses that will help you very little, if you can even get through to them.
  23. Actually you are not looking bad at all, the fact that your previous marriage lasted 8 years is a good thing. The only red flag really is only 5 months between one relationship ending and the next beginning. You will be fine, but better to be a little scared so you prepare for it then getting blindsided at interview. She can take the interview in Chinese, English is not required for the interview though they will want to know how you communicate, so if she has some basic English she will do great. Goodluck to you
  24. Since they split interviews into 2 day events, on the document intake day they will ask your wife if she speaks English. Best answer would be just as you stated, basic English skills, fluent mandarin. I think they use this question to ascertain which VO you will get, depending on VO's language abilities. They will not accept Video evidence, as no electronics are allowed past the security check point, and they are not allowed to insert a unknown device on their computers, viruses etc.
