  4. Great movie, but get Chinese version, American version being shown on some cable pay per views is chop job combining both movies into one and shortening it to 2 hours. Best Buy has the actual original version with English subtitles
  5. Oh forgot RobertH, honorary member of the December club just because he wants to be with us so bad

  7. Yep, will be there, it is costing me a small fortune buying tickets over holidays and on short notice, but I wouldn't miss being there. Will be my 5th trip to China in 2009, so at least the flight over I am flying First Class for Economy pricing thanks to my AirChina frequent flyer miles.
  8. Well ours is a recent case if you want current example. GUZ received our P3 on 11/4/09 12/1/09 P4 Sent to my fiance Interview set for 12/24 So 27 Days from P3 received to P4 sent, and 23 Days from P4 sent to interview date.
  9. Well I am in shock, and all my nerves just hit a crescendo. I called DOS today, well everyday I call them, but today they said. "Yes your interview is scheduled, they sent out the P4 today" And of all days, our interview is DECEMBER 24th, Christmas Eve. I am at loss for words, I was thinking surely in January, now to put plans into overdrive. Christmas in Guangzhou, and I am hoping for a very PINK Christmas.
  10. This happened to me, Wifes son was having problems and I wanted to speak to teacher but was not allowed access to school. Teacher was great though and met us at his home in the evening to discuss the problem over tea.
  11. Me and my fiance use skype and its free, for video chat if you just talk computer to computer. Works fine for us, once in awhile the video will freeze up but I think that is because her computer sucks.
  12. Ok so if I read that correctly: Go through all this crap for all this time, finally get to interview, provide them with birth certificate of child, full album of pictures from baby on up to present age including picture in hospital when child born. Pay for trip to Guanghzou, hotel for multiple nights and then at interview get told "Ok now you need to get DNA test done". Return to home city, I fly back to USA send another butt load of money to some DNA company, get call from GUZ, Pay for everyone to return to GUZ so they can do a 2 second stick a Q-tip in mouth. Fly everyone back to their home. Wait for DNA results, DNA results come back fine, fly everyone back to GUZ to pick up VISA becuase consulate is to stupid to use EMS or even DHL which delivers all over China. This is a load of bullshit, I know people will say to not bad mouth GUZ here but frankly its embarrassing to admit that your own government sticks it in your ass after you pay them 1'000s of dollars in taxes, follow every rule they have and they still try to stick it to you. The simple fact that after all the documentation you have to provide in this process that some VO having a bad day can say "Not your child" or "Not bonifided relationship" is just beyond belief. If they really want to check on people, just come to this board and take few minutes to read the posts from all the different CFL people about their lives, the successes and failures, and they would see that people talking openly here are not looking to scam something over them, we are simply trying to get our families on the same side of the planet, and to do that should not feel like you are on trial for some criminal offense. Fingerprints, Background checks, name checks, life story, EOR letters, financial information, personal pictures, and now they want our fiances and wives spit? I was audited by the IRS and I felt less violated.
  13. Very similiar situation, but in our case my fiance has son who is 15, and he wants to be with his mother so he actually went to the father. It worked out well because my fiance did not have to have the battle with her ex, and father wants to stay in contact with his son, so he had to give in to the sons request.
  14. Would be cautious of commuter flights if you are bringing maxed out luggage. Some of the small commuter flights have really strict baggage allowances. Would definitly fly direct into Chicago and make the drive since you will most likely have more luggage then normal.
  15. I am going back in January, not sure of the date yet and I fly Air China out of JFK. Sorry
  16. 42 Middle School in Chongqing closed for a week, Has 5 cases so they decided to just shut down for the week to try and stop spread.
  17. Skype is nice for learning, My wife tries to say everything to me in English and I try to only speak in Mandarin. As stated above, using it is the best way to learn. Books and dictionary give you good reference material. I also use Rosetta Stone, which I think is very good for teaching the 4 tones, and helps with sentence structure once you get into the later levels.
  18. Wife is a professional wedding planner, she has not heard of the Male giving money to guests, but giving a gift to all guests is extremely common. In our case our invitations where small red gift boxes with candy, and other items. Money given to us went to us, her family wouldnt hear of it them taking anything since I paid for everything. On side note, if you are in Chongqing and watch CQTV, a 15 second spot from our ceremony is running about 20 times a day as part of a promotion having to do with expats in China. I am the idiot looking guy with his thumb pointing up.
  19. Excellent! 32,000 BTU STOVE, that will make the wok HOT enough to properly flash fry! Its propane, cant use that indoors without a pretty good exhaust system. I fear the wok issue as when she arrives and sees my electric stove she is going to get on plane right back to china.
  20. Consulates are slowing waaaayyyyyy down recently basically from the fact the USCIS went nuts the last 2 months catching up their back log which in turn flooded all the consulates which are now getting back logged. Looking over at VJ timelines the first half of 2009 most interviews were happening on average 57 days from NVC out date. The second half of year so far is averaging 76 days to interview. This is all consulates combined, not just GUZ. I wouldn't make plans until you have P4 in hand with interview date. I know your feeling since I am sitting here waiting on P3 to be sent and our case was sent to GUZ back on 10/9.
  21. How about what is it used for other then in energy drinks?
  22. In the same boat as you Louis, mine was sent Electronically on Oct 8th. Called DOS this morning (10/27/09) and still no P3 mailed out yet to my fiance. What I dont understand is when I look at the K1 timelines some of them have less then a week between NVC out and P3 received.
  23. They may not check it at customs in China, but it will be X-ray'd at your departing Airport, and I want to see x-ray tech face when he sees large bag of white stuff filling a suitcase.
