  1. I thought I was going to avoid most of the economic effects except for some losses on retirement accounts etc. That was until the other day company decides all our company cars have to go so they can reduce overhead costs, so now I have to buy car, pay for gas and insurance all of which I have not paid for in 15 years. Kinda sucks and I have not told my SO yet because our Wedding Ceremony is 9/16 and she is hot and heavy into planning and organizing, do not want to derail her drive at the moment. If I can only afford half of the tux for wedding, which should I get?
  2. Landed in Beijing on the 27th, not really an issue. Fill out form on plane, they came on board and forehead scanned everyone in under 5 minutes. Only real difference is they have extra stop now in the airport to hand in the health form and they check it, took about 2 minutes is all. Then business as usual, entire time from landing until I was through customs and on way to connecting flight, under 20 minutes. One point to add, don't lie on the health form they check up on you. They stopped by apartment this morning to see if I was actually here at this address.
  3. I am sure he intends to support his wife when she arrives, but the question refers to "specific contributions" which means are you going to give your wife a set amount of money at periodic times? Should just be N/A I would say
  4. I will do my best here, since I was like you when I started this process and I still get thrown off track by some of the abbreviations. P1 = NOA1 (Notice of Action One) Received when you send in your app P2 = NOA2 When petition approved by service center P3 = Consulate packet sent to foriegn spouse P4 = Interview packet, I am really not sure on this one Other ones I have noticed GUZ Consulate in China where interview happens SO Significant Other? USC United States Citizen CSC and VSC California and Vermont Service Centers DOS Department of State NVC National Visa Center There is a ton more that I have not figured out, I also wish there was a table of contents so to speak for all the terms. Hope it helps a little
  5. I am learning, but if you are like me and stuck here in US it can be difficult. I tried couple different methods but now I am actually using rossetastone software and I like it. My fiance says the words I have learned I am actually pronouncing properly also which I was surprised. She also says my sentence structure when I speak is very good. Now if they would take out all the Z sounds from Chinese I would be fluent in a day. 1 Year now since I started seriously learning and I can hold a conversation pretty well. Not an endorsement, just what is working for me.
  6. They use scanners now for taking temps, most people do not even realize they are having temps taken. I was talking to the customs guy in Beijing last time through and he was letting me watch the screen with him. Its pretty neat, its a temp sensitive camera and they can see your body temp as you walk by them.
  7. Not everyone has the means to up and go whenever GUZ decides the interview date. Most will make the attempt but there are many reasons why a person may not be able to attend with fiance.
