  1. Thanks for the tip, we'll give it a try next time. We went to Top Island and it was good but I tend to agree with you that they are all pretty much very similar with some minor differences.
  2. So we're going to get some dim sum, but we can only pick one place. If you've been to any of the above, what did you think? We have quite a few decent places locally, but thought on Mothers Day we would venture out a little and try some new places we've always heard about.
  3. As long as the phone is unlocked, he can pop in any sim card and be ready to go. It might not replace his GF, but he can impress other girls with his new iphone and acquire a new one Agree with Amaro and all his posts in this thread, he makes very valid points.
  4. OK, back on topic then... For anyone interested, my participation in one case was as a character witness where a very close friend was asking for asylum from religious persecution. She is a pastor at our church and feared that returning to China she would receive retribution from her graduate thesis that she gave at her Chinese Christian seminary that condemned the Chinese government's policy of restricting religious freedom. I was also a witness in a close friend's case of abuse by her American husband. Through tears (sobbing and whaling) she testified of being tied up to her bed while her husband performed sexual acts of torture where she had to show the court the scars she received. She told the court how she was required to stay nude throughout the day while her husband took pictures of her in various sexual positions. The state rested without rebuttal. Our friend tells us that the female judge was teared up listening to her testimony. The first case won asylum. The second case was give an immediate unconditional 10-year green card. PM me and I will give you these women's contact information. She wasn't really whaling, but wailing. Although ShaZhang may enjoy whaling I doubt that she's every thought of trying it. ...good one.
  5. Congrats!!! Great job!!! Yummo, that hot pot meal is looking pretty tasty...

  7. 3 days (48 hours running think "Scenery") Cost for soft sleeper $158 per person.. 4000+ km.. highest train in the world peaking to 16,640 ft, (Yes they provide oxygen) http://www.chinatibettrain.com/beijinglhasa.htm http://www.budgettravel.com/feature/the-sky-train-to-tibet,2557/ wow...that's a bargain and I bet you run through some beautiful country...
  8. I've wanted to take the train but we always ended up flying to where we were going believing that it was the most efficient use of our always too short time together. Looking back now, that may have been a mistake. It is on the "to do" list of things for our future trips back to China though. That Beijing to Tibet route sounds interesting but longggggggg.
  9. That's actually not too bad on such short notice. I've had to pay more with 21 days advance purchase before. Enjoy your trip.
  10. You'll have to shop to compare but with such short time to buy before you fly, I suspect you will most likely have to pay top dollar for a ticket. I would try the airlines direct, Cathay Pacific hub is in HK try them first but I would also try Air China (the worst airline I've flown to China, but usually among the lowest fares) and also try China Airlines. Good luck.
  11. If your mother has an open bank account in Hong Kong, then she can claim the money. Original signatures by mail will be required.

  15. What? Don's done? Wow...miss a day or two and everything's changed. Well, Long Live "The Don" he's done more than his fair share of service to our community here. Best of luck in whatever his future holds. I know we're in very capable hands though with Carl and Kyle and Dan. My hats off to you gentleman for picking up the torch (see what I did there, torch=candle=same same...lol ) and carrying on. Congrats AND condolences to Carl and Kyle. Thank you guys, all of you, Don, Carl, Kyle, Dan and all the mods.
