good luck, my best wishes for a rapid approval! -James -
I filed a FC-029 and included the exact verbage in my cover letter for the I-129F as well. It is an obsolete form, but it is mentioned occaisionally. I am a 'belt-and-suspenders' kinda guy, and I think I WOULD carry a knife to gun fight. They don't run out of bullets.... -James

Multiple Entry "L" China Visa
jemmyell replied to jemmyell's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Hello, Thank YOU! Yes, my first experience led me to believe the published rules are not followed much. I want the multi-entry so I can see my lady in July when I have vacation time available and her daughter is not in school so my daughter can bond with her. I also see the need to be able to travel on short notice for an emergency overcome. Thanks for confirming what I suspected. I will apply in May 2006 for a 12 month "L" visa. That will give me travel permission for up to 17 months into our process. Thanks again, -James -
Multiple Entry "L" China Visa
jemmyell replied to jemmyell's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
I don't think you need an invitation letter. For "purpose" I just put "tourist" and then the cities I intend to visit. I think the PRC is more concerned with collecting the visa fee and have you spend money in China rather than getting into your personal bussiness. Have Fun 178287 Hi, So, you have received a multiple entry (the kind good for one year) entry "L" visa by just doing a tourist application? -James 178289 From the best I can figure L Visas are not good for a year. Only business Visas are good for a year. They require an invitation letter from a company. If you're married to a Chinese Citizen you can get a double entry visa good for six months. Some websites only quote fees for the Visa you want and list no requirements. I would call either a visa service or the Embassy for clarification. 178291 Hi, The Chinese Embassy website gives two classes of long term "L" visas, one 6 months, one for a year. http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/hzqz/zgqz/t84246.htm There is an additional requirement for an invitation IT SAYS. But very little I read about China Visas online was true when I got mine. I went to the office in Los Angeles (apparently the western region processing center) and just handed my application and photo. I started to ask about the priority payments, etc when the girl stamped the application, took my passport and said 'pick up Thursday' (it was Monday morning). So, I wonder if anybody has gotten one of these "L" visas? I am trying to get ahead of the game and study the next steps in our process. -James -

Hello, I did our I-129F and we are NOA1 as of November 16. I am returning for a second visit with my SO in late July, but we are hoping to be close to interview then since CSC and GUZ both appear to have sped up recently. Has anybody gotten a multiple entry "L" China visa? I want to be able to return at the interview or for an emergency overcome without another visa application. I am able to submit at Los Angeles in person and the process was very smooth last time (October visit). Can a fiancee issue an invitation letter for a multiple entry "L" visa? -James

Hello to all in the consulate, While I won't be there for a while (we just started our I-129F) your participation on CFL has brought us much hope for better communication and support during this difficult process. Thanks again, and see you in Guangzhou sometime in 2006, I hope! -James

Hello, I send things all over the world using USPS with almost zero problems. I ALWAYS use EMS to China, and I have mailing labels that were developed in collaboration with my SO. These labels have her address in both English and Chinese. They are 2" x 4" labels and I place one on EVERY side of the EMS box, and I cover the one on the front (placed above the EMS address label) with clear tape so that the address will still be legible even if the package is gotten wet. That said, I do NOT intend to commit critical materials to any one box, being shipped by ANY carrier. I am already shipping EMS packages with 'proof of relationship' materials to my SO. Be sure that your SO keeps the labels from each package as they are also part of the 'proof of relationship'. I am doing this very early so we have a dead minimum of time critical materials at P4 time. THEN, I will probably send TWO identical boxes by different carriers to guarantee one will make it. -James

Hello, I want to add my thanks for your report. I know that coincidence plays a BIG part in this process, but I also believe that every person in this process, both at USCIS and GUZ has a 'daily quota' to fill. A well organized easily reviewed package is likely to be processed ahead of others. I also believe very firmly in filling all forms in Acrobat via email collaboration. My SO and I did that for our I-129F, but we are stuck with CSC. Everytime any of us sees a quick turnaround, we will be VERY curious as to ALL the details! -James

Sending money to China
jemmyell replied to skibum's topic in Communications, Planes, Shipping & Money
Hello, I had a HORRIBLE time get AMEX traveler's checks cashed, the Bank of China flatly refused. If you want to send money once, use Western Union, they can pick up at any China Post, for more than once iKobo can be very nice. They get a 'credit card' snail mailed which they can use to withdraw money at an ATM. You can recharge it over the internet and the money is instantly available, 24/7. https://www.ikobo.com/country/index.php?cou...=china&access=3 -James -
Hello, Yes, the privacy form is an ABSOLUTE requirement. My CongressCritter has one on his website, along with the snail mail address to send it to. You must have this on file with them before they can make any inquiries on your behalf. I strongly recommend that everybody find out who all the players in this arena are, from Maura Harty to your local rep and get all their contact info on file BEFORE you are upset enough to need it. -James

Last night, I spoke with my wife about the Jany story. She said that she likes the idea that Jany never asked for any donation, and Jany works hard and is frugal. She further said whatever I do, I will be a good model for our son. At last, she asked me to go to bed early because I have to work on Monday. Paul 175256 Bump....

Hello all, At this holiday time, as we count our blessings and our hopes and wishes for our SO let us open our hearts to someone whose journey did not end so well. Please see the 'Jany Fund' in 'Our Stories'. -James

chinese on I-129K
jemmyell replied to longstrangetrip's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Hello, My SO and I used the fillable PDF from the USCIS website, Acrobat 7 and many emails back and forth to come to an I-129F that we thought was ok to submit. She was able to type the Chinese characters on her end and send me the completed forms. She also made address sheets for the G-325A supplementals we filed alongside. -James -
Number of visits versus being at interview
jemmyell replied to jemmyell's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Hello, Yes it is a very hard decision. I can afford the trip, but I do not have time available from work. Taking a leave of absence would jeapordize my employment. So, I was planning to go for the interview, but my SO thinks she can handle this alone. I am tentatively planning a trip for March with my Daughter, so she can meet my SO and her Daughter. BUT I am VERY concerned that this will make me unable to help with the interview. At the projected interview time I should have a full two weeks vacation, and if I get to GUZ the night before that will give plenty of time for emergency overcomes or almost two weeks of joyous celebration. That was my plan..... However, having been married for 20 years prior (I am a widower) I know that the husbands plans are DEFINITELY subject to review... Thanks for all the input, we are now looking for feedback from 001 since my SO has asked the same question there. -James -
Hello, My SO wants me to come to China as soon as I can since she believes (from reading many posts here) that the number of visits is a prime deciding factor during the interview. I used all my vacation time plus I borrowed 2 days to visit her in October. Will it be better if I visit again at Spring Break / Easter or during her interview? Either way that will be my second visit. My big worry is that if I go for Easter then I CANNOT go for the interview or an emergency overcome attendance. Please give me some advice! -James

SO Passed Interview
jemmyell replied to johnkinsale's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Hello, If you would, PLEASE post some details about your submission? How long have you known your SO, how many visits, etc? I am very curious about the parameters. Any info about what led to this spectacularly short visa time is WELL appreciated. I just filed my I-129F and we researched the heck out of it, but we have so much further to go. -James -
I used an 'attached Additional Sheet' and stapled it to the 129F. I did the same for the 325a because her address is very long. Name is her name of course, and you should be able to have her separate the number and street from the other bits. If she is from a huge town, like GZ, then everything up to the district is part of the number and street. Also, don't forget the postal code. I had my SO track down postal codes for all her 325a and 129/130 (I am applying for a K-3) information so that it was all complete. Whereever the information was too huge for the box, I went to the supplemental sheet. I figure I would add a second sheet but give them something quite legible. I stapled the 129F to the supplemental sheet because it is not part of the form and I wanted it to stay together. Same with the 325a. I know it will end up punched in the file, but I wanted them together until then. I stapled top center, since the punches will be up there anyway. 167728 Hello, We are also using supplemental sheets, filled out by my SO in China and emailed to me. Since I don't speak or read any Chinese, I printed the copy, then compared it with what I saw on the screen then I took a screen capture (ALT-PrintScreen of active window) and emailed the image back to her to ask if my computer was printing the Simplified Chinese that I recently installed correctly. -James
