  1. If you are married to an American citizen, then your husband can apply for a visa for your son, IF he is a legal son or step-son of your husband. If you came here on a K-3 visa, he is a legal step-son only if you were married on his 18th birthday. If you are not married or your husband is not an American citizen, then you are not eligible to apply for a visa until you or his father becomes an American citizen. If you arrived on a K-1, K-3, or CR-1 visa within the last year, your son may be eligible for follow-to-join status, which would be the simplest.
  2. I think F-1 is a student visa, isn't it? Most people (at my office) who came here on a student visa first got bachelor's degrees in China, then came here for Master's and/or PhD. No relative here in the states is required. I don't know if they still do this, but the University of Texas used to offer very low tuition for foreign students.

  4. For Family-based applications, the address is: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services P.O. Box 805887 Chicago, IL 60680-4120 I think that's no change at all.
  5. There IS no clear answer as to what is really going on for a name check/administrative processing/whatever. They can come up at any point in the process (including AFTER the visa is awarded in some cases), and no sequence to it. You're in there 'till the interview!
  6. Nope - no visa at all is needed for Hong Kong. But if you cross the border into China more than once, or go to Hong Kong from China and try to return, you will need a multiple entry visa fo China. A Chinese citizen needs to make sure that they can enter Hong Kong, however.

  8. It sounds like there's no need to involve the courts in Florida, either. Simply notify Passport, Social Security Card, Voter Registration, Employer, Banks and other Financial Institutions, Clubs and Organizations, Drivers License, Post Office, Insurance Companies, IRS, State Tax Commission, etc, as needed. You may have to show the Marriage License a few times, until she has other ID's in her married name.

  10. I stand corrected. I was unaware that the consulate separated the USC from the applicant and interviewed each separately in hopes of catching one of them in a lie as is the protocol when investigating. Also, I was unaware that the consulate had switched from interviewing to interrogating. Thanks for passing on this new information. I again return to my innocent layman's reading material: "Follow My Opinions" by I.M. Wright. I said nothing of the kind. I simply speculated on why things are as they are. We already know that VO's have responsibilities beyond those required to grant visas to those involved in legitimate family relationships. I didn't say the VO's switched from interviewing to interrogating. I used an example to demonstrate a principle. The reader is free to assign their own degree of value to any of my comments. I think that's already been done.
  11. I think that for most of our interviewees (this week and last), the US petitioner was here in the states.
  12. What short courtship? We met online Feb 1, 2005 and were married in the US in Dec 2005. No video required. It doesn't hurt to be prepared for anything, though, as Hank can attest.
  13. http://bergoiata.org/gif/Feu4.gif Welcome back, Hank! You da' Chief! Hankerchief! 14. Leters will languish at the White Swan hotel (where the mail is received) until they decide to get around to reading them ("It takes time to sort and processed each letter", was what they told me, after about 3 inquiries). Email and fax will get a much quicker repsonse, IF they indeed respond. Your son's name will remain on the case until one year after the date the visa is awarded. If he will not be coming to the US, then he simply does not need to show up at the interview. It is an option that you will have available until that time.
  15. Once you have the EAD, take that to the SS office - Employment Authorization is what is needed to get the SSN. The K-1 should have been good enough, but it is too late.
  16. ÄãºÃ - there are several different input methods (IME). If she is happy wit pinyin, that may be selected from the language bar (select Microsoft Pinyin IME). Then enter the pinyin. A list of Chinese characters for that Pinyin code will be presented for her to select from. A handwriting recognition interface is provided, if you install the Japanese IME and/or buy a Chinese input pack from Twin Bridge or Ruier or other. There are also codes that professional typists use, but I'm not familiar with those.

  20. I agree with pushbrk here - if they are telling her how to write her name, or what alphabet to use, they are not asking for a signature. Signature should be the way she always writes it.

  22. But consider that, at your company, many applications are turned down with no interview. Then consider that GUZ MUST interview every applicant. How much time would YOUR company spend if it knew it had to interview every single applicant, and how much time would it spend with the ones that it knew in advance would not be approved?
