  1. Hey, we can handle these things! Just add a step to toppy's recipe - 0. Wait until Ping gets here.
  2. I think right (we took a tram to get up there). Here's another interesting angle: http://i3.tinypic.com/72zpxeo.jpg
  3. In order to get around clogs like this, we had to get off the wall and hike alongside it up to the next guardhouse. http://i9.tinypic.com/6si7tw3.jpg
  4. My brother, and two sisters, and I have consecutive numbers - we were born 9 years apart, but our parents waited until the final count was in before applying for everybody.
  5. OK ... I can understand it if, under extraordinary circumstances, your employer can't allow you to take time off at that particular timeframe. If the reason is that you can't afford the funds to make the trip then you need to seriously reconsider if you are ready to take on the responsibility of a wife who is likely, at first, to only have a limited ability to earn money. Not a popular view point, I know ... Nope - not at all. There are plenty of us who don't even make it to Guangzhou for the interview. A good idea to be sure, but just not necessary if you can't make it for whatever reason.
  6. I hate to point out the obvious here, but she won't be getting either the green card or the EAD intil sometime after the biometrics. After 11/28, watch for either the interview appt. Letter, or the "Welcome" letter. Biometrics is but one step toward the AOS.
  7. Yes - it's usually closer to 2 months for the EAD, but they tell you to wait 90 days before making an InfoPass appt. Biometrics comes about 3 or 4 weeks before the EAD card. The picture on the card and the fingerprints come from this appt.
  8. It seems that once a VO gets "blue slip" on the brain, that everything else is blocked out, and all he is thinking is what hoops he can give you to jump through. I have no idea why he wouldn't spend even a couple of minutes to try and understand the situation. A shame it happened to you, but, like others have said, it should be an easy overcome. Good luck
  9. That works with the Windows XP system and just recognizes incoming Chinese characters??? Japanese uses the same character set, except that they have two additional phonetic alphabets. The character recognition is very good, but Jiaying likes her Twinbridge software better.
  10. To input (and recognize) Chinese characters, you need to add the Japanese IME (wouda thunk?).
  11. Check out http://www.pleco.com/. It's a dictionary rather that a sentence translator, but still very useful.
  12. http://bergoiata.org/gif/Feu4.gif Congratulations !! http://i1.tinypic.com/3ygwmdz.gif
  13. Money that will, of course, go for "service improvements"
  14. Yes, you are fortunate, but we're very happy for you. Congratulations!
  15. As with all such things from the Internet, Check snopes first
  16. That's excellent, and a very resourceful use of the ACH. Everyone should be aware of the potential benefit. However, Joe Blow who has his interview next week may prefer to spend the time with his SO to prepare for the interview, or the travel time may be prohibitive. Joe need not feel like he's putting a crimp in his case by not attending. Basically, consider your circumstances, consider everyone who has gone before you (some of whom made it to the ACH, others didn't), and what it does to your travel plans, and make your own decision about whether you should go or not. If you're there at the right time, by all means, go, otherwise, don't feel like you've missed out on something.
  17. USCIS will have an answer for you soon enough - in the meantime, you might check on Visa Journey - www.visajourney.com - to see if they have had anyone with an incident like that. We have not.
  18. There were actually Four Gorges Dames . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Beauties
  19. Getting married in Hong Kong is definitely the way to fly, if you can swing it. As far as your trip, however, look into flying United to Beijing (it's actually on the way to Hong Kong) - there are many connecting flights to Shenzhen and other cities, and Beijing is an especially easy airport to navigate.
  20. If the daughter gets a CR-1 or IR-1 (or 2) visa, how long would she have to use it after it was awarded? That is, how long before it expires?
  21. The new fee is free - included in the cost of the AOS application. For us, it's still $180 (I think) - Oops - it went to $340 in July. Well, Jiaying better get her green card before next March!
  22. EAD is Employment Authorization Document. It is also the first (and only) government-issued picture ID that you will get before the green card. The EAD card is good for 365 days. You must apply for a new one within 90 days of its expiration. So after 2 years (less 90 days), you would apply for the third card. We're getting close to ours, also. The fee structure is new as of a few months ago. Those of us who applied with the old fees must pay the $180 with each application.
  23. The easy answer is, anytime they want them. The truthful answer is, they're never asked for. A security guard at our AOS cracked the envelope enough to verify that they were x-rays - this is the only time on record where someone actually looked. They are yours to keep for posteriority.
