  1. I guess I should have followed up on this for anyone else thinking of doing this for their in-laws. To my shock, my mother-in-law was approved for her visitors visa! She arrived in JFK airport on June 11th and will be returning on October 7th. According to my wife the interview was very easy. I prepared my MIL with a package similar to what I did for my Lao Po at her K-1 visa interview with all the required paperwork along with a small assortment of photos and suggested paperwork. At the interview the officer only asked my MIL a few questions, such as who was in one of the photos, and briefly looked over the paperwork she provided. So once again I had good fortune with GUZ. My wife out did me with finding a cheap airline ticket and we got a great deal at the last moment, with the only problem being an overnight stay in Shanghai. But she's here and having a great time with my wife and son. So I guess Mr. Carl was right in that it must be getting easier to get this approval now days.
  2. Thanks for the info Carl. That is what I was afraid of. I was telling my wife that I was pretty certain that if her mother is refused at the interview that she'll probably not get another chance and that she would need to apply again. It is going to be a long shot for my mother-in-law for various reasons but my Lao Po really wanted me to try so I did my best, we'll just have to wait to see what the visa officer says now. They're in GUZ now. Thanks again guys!
  3. Do you guys happen to know what the process is if she is refused? Does she get any second chance to show them anything else like the blue slips for K1 (if I remember that process correctly)? Or do you simply have to pay the fee all over again and make another appointment?
  4. Daviation-- Thanks, she'll need a lot of luck I think. Seems like 90% of our SOs and family on this board are from Nanning! *lol* Yuanyang-- Yeah, I told my wife to make sure that she takes as much as she reasonably can to the interview to show them.
  5. Dan - Been doing good, thanks. Yes, I've become one of THOSE Candle members that don't post much anymore. Been very busy with new home, new baby and all the extra fun stuff that comes with those new responsibilities. Well Lao Po got impatient and did not want to wait for me to call GUZ so she called herself last night. *LOL* Mother-in-law has an appointment with GUZ on the 21st of this month I believe. I was a little shocked, I figured there'd be about a 4 week or possibly longer wait time. It's a long shot but the wife wanted me to try and I'd love to have her come here and meet my family and see our home once. She lives in Nanning so she is in the GUZ consular district.
  6. Hello all. Haven't posted in here in ages! Anyways, I searched around but couldn't quite find the answer I was looking for. Also, hope this is the right forum for this question. I have helped my mother-in-law prepare the DS-160 paperwork and we are ready to call the GUZ number to apply for the illusive B2 Visitor's Visa. My question is who can call to set up the GUZ interview? Can I call for my MIL? I don't speak Chinese so is it better for Lao Po (here in USA) to call? Or is it required that my MIL call herself to set up the appointment? Thanks for any help guys!
  7. Congrats you two!!!!...I remember when we got our P3 about this time last year...I was hoping this wasn't going to turn into one of those endless delays!...I'll be sure to tell Lao Po of this good news!...What a great Christmas surprise!!!...
  8. There is 2 and maybe 3 china towns in Toronto. To bad the ferry went belly up. Yan reads this and wonders about her green card ......She wants to send the FBI an e-mail to push along the name check Yes, it has been a while for you guys... Hopefully the wait will not be too long, you guys are so close!... Yes, I almost forgot about the China towns up there!...I do remember reading about them a little bit on Wikipedia when Yan first moved here...
  9. Hey congrats guy!... Two years ago I would never have guessed that I could have made it this far with no lawyer!...I'm feel so lucky we got the internet nowdays...VJ and the Candle forums really helped me feel I could do this by myself...If I ever got into a bad situation (ex. white slip@GUZ) I would not hesitate to seek a lawyer though!... Again congrats and good luck with the great news on the offers to your wife!...
  10. Thank you...It will be great to have my sig read like yours...But I'll be enjoying our new life until then...
  11. Thanks!...And good luck to you too sir...Looks like you two have been cruising along pretty well too with things!...
  12. I'd never forget that...She wouldn't let me!...
  13. Yes!...I cannot wait...I have only driven through Toronto once, I've never visited the city so it will be exciting for the both of us to go for a tour...I hear that they have a giant shopping mall there too, we both love window shopping...
  14. Well I'm a few days late posting but the Permament Resident Card came in the mail on Friday the 16th!...Just two days after we got the letter in the mail informing us that that they would mail it and we should receive it within three weeks... No interview, no travel...Hmmm, in a way it is so anti-climatic...I thought I was going to get an ulcer in the waiting room at GUZ... Anyway, it's nice to finally take a bit of a breather from all this paperwork and waiting and waiting...Now I just gotta go do a quick search on how to get the SS card updated and how to get started on the driver's license stuff...
  15. Yes, yes...Thanks... I will see you guys Friday!
