  1. Remember that if he needs more than 6 months after the mother gets her visa, that he will need to wait - and interview separately when he is ready to use the visa. The mother will be allowed to attend his interview. The visa is good only for 6 months from the date of issuance.
  2. I've assumed that interviews are ALWAYS required - and that the parents are ALWAYS allowed at the interview (what they told Bob), but I don't think the question of whether a child could get the visa without an interview has come up
  3. Bobmal99's kids were 14 when they were blue-slipped because their parents weren't there (they had been denied access by the guards). You need to plan on at least one of the parents being there if you go the follow-to-join route.
  4. No - he may interview at a later date (within 1 year of the mother's interview). I'm going to guess that that's not what you wanted to hear.
  5. The new fee structure is $1010 for the I-485, which includes (I guess) unlimited EAD and AP. We have to pay for it each year at the new rate.
  6. http://jjulian.org/pics/5428%20av3.jpg The one on the left and the one on the right are both good quality rice cookers although the one on the right has been known to burn the rice. Both are small ones and reasonably priced. What about the one in the middle?
  7. EAD #3? Geez. I'm obsessing over EAD #1. You mean I have two more of these to go through? B) Hey, at least yours are at no additional charge!
  8. I am unsure of what the question is here. Who hired the attorney? As the executor, I would think you would have access to the agreement with him, if it was made by your father.
  9. We're not too far behind you - I'll send ours in around March. She was called in for more fingerprints last week, hopefully that's a good sign. At least we don't don't have nearly as far to drive as Ty does.
  10. I looked at all of the major chain stores and couldn't find one with the region free capability. Yes, there are probably hundreds of them available on Ebay but they can readily be found doing a search on the internet. Bottom line is just to shop around and find one that has any extras you might want. Just be sure it will handle NTSC and PAL too. It's kinda like a lot of other things we all buy. We can spend as much as you want to but as long as it will handle the basics fancy prices don't make it any better. Many times you have to go online to the manufacturers website and check out all of the features. The big box stores aren't going to tell you that kind of things or at least not all of the features / abilities. I think you can still pretty much assume that any DVD player you buy in a store is NOT region free, and that they sell ONLY Region 1 encoded players here, just like they only sell Region 1 DVD's here. Tony's NWL is an exception since they are liquidators, assuming they still have them.
  11. It often happens that a form will "expire" before a new one is available. In that case, you simply continue using the old one. Even if a new form is published, they will likely continue accepting the old one until the old one is out of date because of new information that is required. Check the USCIS or DOS forms web site for details as to which versions are still accepted.
  12. Thank you again. She was the beneficiary of the K-1 visa application, but she is applying for AOS herself.
  13. What does it mean first................... Try "Xi fer brains"
  14. Yes, any other options for one?? Next trip back plan on stocking up on DVD's before I leave!!!!!!! Yes - do a Internet search for region free DVD. You will find players, and software which decode the DVD's. You can then burn your own region free DVD. But, most of the Chinese DVD's are region free (Region 0) anyway
  15. re: I-485 AOS application File # - give the A#
  16. Remember that clothing that goes with our complexions and hair colors won't always go along with their's. This is a good point. I am terribly sorry, Randy. I didn't intend to edit your post. I wanted to reply, but hit the wrong button.

  18. I am a bit new to this part of the forum. Does this mean some people are not required to interview for AOS? Is this done at random or has there been any attempt to understand who is likely to get interviewed and who is likely to not be? I did see some people got a "welcome" letter, but didn't know this meant they didn't have to go to an interview before getting the green card. Is my understanding correct? Thanks, ILS No - close, but not quite. The "Welcome" letter is the receipt, saying that you are about to get the green card in the mail. It can come either after an interview (up to 3 years after in some cases), or after you are approved without an interview. It will always come before you receive the green card. It appears to us to be random, but I'm sure there are reasons why some sail through without an interview. In either case, the FBI background check can hit a snag (especially with a common name) - this is the most common reason for a long delay.
  19. All she needs to stay (after a student visa) for her green card is a job from a sponsoring company. This can be easy or difficult, depending on her field of study. I have known people who came here on student visas, despite having close relatives already in the company. I don't think this is an issue, if she can get accepted to an American university. But, yes, see if you can't convince her to use the K-2, if possible.
  20. DOS and the NVC can speak for general policies of all (world-wide) consulates, but they can't speak for Guangzhou. We need a way to contact the Guangzhou IV Unit. Email, mail (sometimes fax), and going there in person have been the only way to do that. perhaps your SO can get in to get a duplicate appt letter. Perhaps if you fax, and mail them that your SO will be there on Dec. xx, that might get her through. This is a bad position they are putting you in - I hope you get through it.
  21. She may wish to go to graduate school in the US - that would be easier than being hired straight out of China. Then, if she finds a sponsoring employer, she can get her green card that way.
  22. What they tell you here doesn't always correspond to consulate policy. They may not let her in without an appointment letter. Contact them by emal at http://www.usembassy-china.org.cn/guangzhou/iv/email.html , and request a new appointment letter. Edit: Hopefully, this isn't the site that you said " This website no longer receives incoming email" about. It wouldn't load just now. That would be the same website Until just now, that was the best way to communicate with them, unfortunately.
