  1. Yes - she cannot file the I-130 without it.
  2. You've got plenty of company (others in the same boat) . . .
  3. Make sure they can exchange these - they haven't been printed since 1969. The phrase "new and crisp" comes to mind.
  4. Oh - never mind! I think her mother (not you) needs to file an I-130, assuming she was over 18 when you were married. If you file BEFORE she becomes 21, the wait is 5 years. If you file AFTER she's 21, the wait becomes 10 years. Visa bulletin The K-4 follow-to-join (ONLY if your wife got a K-3) would be a little trickier, since your wife would still have to file an I-130, but still could be done (again, ONLY if your wife got a K-3)
  5. Is that the US consulate in China or the US Guangzhou
  6. Contact the consulate (by letter or email) and tell them you wish to activate the K-2 follow-to-join case. Gather the paperwork together for a P-3 equivalent, and submit. Be aggressive about contacting them for an interview date. IF she is almost 21, she will definitely need to enter the US and apply for AOS before she turns 21. If she turns 21 before the AOS interview, the USCIS may deny it on that basis - they have been inconsistent on this, and there are several court cases pending over this issue. follow to join
  7. They have been known to blueslip someone for things that were known to be in their possession, so it may not make any difference. If they want to issue a blueslip for whatever reason, they will. Personally, I like the idea of offering just a little bit more than what they ask for - i.e., "Here it is - and would you like to see . . . also?" (such as the USC's passport, pictures with the parents, financial information that you have under control, etc. It gives an impression of cooperation, and also that your kitchen sink is well-equipped, without disclosing its contents. You want to appear well-equipped, but without opening any doors that you can't close.
  8. I think the best solution, if you think the check might expire, is to ask what the bank policy is. Then notify them to let the check through if it comes after that time.
  9. Here's a link to a little discussion about check expiration. http://www.superpages.com/supertips/cash-a...onal-check.html
  10. Oh, I get it now, Ty. I hope you didn't think I was being evasive there. I didn't understand where you were coming from. The check can "expire" if the USCIS waits too long to deposit it. I think it's pretty much up to bank policy as to whether they honor the expiration (by bouncing or returning the check) and shouldn't really be a concern. But if someone is worried about what might go wrong with their application, it is a valid concern that the USCIS has addressed with that page that someone posted a link to. Again, it's based only on the date written in the upper right hand corner by the check-writer. That's really all I can tell you. I have heard of the expiration policy, but I have never heard of a check bouncing because of it.
  11. Someone else please explain it to him. You didn't answer my question. My question was, Do you have an expiration date on your personal checks? I don't and I never had. What kind of banks are you all dealing with that has expiration dates on your personal checks??? Again, That's absurd! You write a date on the check in the upper right hand corner. It is supposed to expire after 6 months or 1 year (whatever the expiration period is). The bank MAY return it for that reason. You and I are both aware that this rarely to never happens.
  12. Then praytell, tell me why it "bounced", or was "returned", as you so casually put it? Correct me if I'm wrong but usually when a check "bounces", it's because of "insufficient funds", or in other words, you haven't got a dime in your checking account, as I so casually put it. Besides, I never heard of a personal check that expires and I've written thousands of them over the years. I never seen an expiration date on my "pretty rainbow" color checks. Is there anything you are disagreeing with? The whole topic here is about the possibility of a check being "bounced" or returned because it expired. I call that "bounced". I am also saying that this is very unlikely. If they notice a date that is too old, they're likely to assume it was a typo by the checkwriter.
  13. They only do this if the bank bounces the check - in other words, this is VERY unlikely to happen. There's a BIG difference between an expired check and a check that bounced! If it bounces, then they should file your case; in the circular file cabinet! If the check is RETURNED, it is "bounced". They do not send you your check back unless the bank RETURNS it.
  14. They only do this if the bank bounces the check - in other words, this is VERY unlikely to happen.
  15. The verdict from Jiaying is, "Good, but not great". The feeling between the two leads just really wasn't there. It does hold your interest all the way through, and they make it easy to read the subtitles and watch the movie at the same time. My wife understood the Mandarin and the Cantonese. I kept expecting a twist in the plot somewhere, but it never happened. It just ended - tragically. You new all along which side everyone was on. It wasn't overly predictable, but no surprises either. Tomorrow is the last day here in Houston - better hurry. I'll wait for cable or the DVD.
  16. You can find out within a day or two (I think it is) by going back to the office and waiting in line again.
  17. Let's see - they can pollute twice as much when there's twice the water flowing through? They literally do that here in Houston along the ship channel. The monitoring equipment doesn't work when it rains, so they let out as much as they can - you can really smell the difference.
  18. It installs off the XP CD (either Pro or Home) - just go to Control Panel/Language and Regional options.
  19. Make a difference? Yes, the difference is that a very small percentage of the public have their opinions swayed by what they see on Hard Copy and MTV. The rest will keep looking and buying the best products at the cheapest price and fill up their cars using oil from the mideast on the way there. The world is driven by market and by price; it's just that simple. Sighing and saying "oh well that's just the way the world is, we might as well accept it" makes more of a difference? Attitudes like that is what perpetuates this exploitation of workers. Right on Carl!!! Whatever happened to the good ole days when people gave a rat's rump about someone other than themselves?? I reckon the 'we' generation moved to the 'me' generation. 'I got mine so who gives a flip if you get your?' Seems like it's fend for yourself and damn the rest of 'em. No wonder our country is in such a pitiful state of affairs!! Come on, guys! I believe Shaq was making a statement about the way things are, and not an endorsement.
  20. Sounds to me like she's out of their grasp. Don't look back!
  21. She may not want to - it is a very depressing film even for someone who didn't live through. Xiu-xiu funds herself abandoned at the end of the cultural revolution with no way home, except (she hopes) by having sex with people who claim they can help her. A very sad ending.
  22. I would think you could find a certified translator here in the US. I don't remember anyone needing one before, though, so I'm not sure where you would find one. Maybe start at a university, or the Chinese consulate? Maybe someone here will know.
  23. Yes - this is referred to as the "Welcome Letter" - congratulations.
  24. Ok, that may be true for graduate school but I was more referring to just using the college degree for a job. Not many companies will accept a Chinese college degree as an equivalent to a 4 year bachelors degree from a US school. Depending on what kind of college degree one obtains in China, it may apply towards grad school in the US. That's generally not an issue, since we don't hire people directly from China, but a measure of their acceptance is the fact that our universities do accept the Chinese degrees. One I have heard several times recently is Wuhan University. Don't underestimate the Chinese educational system.
