  1. For those who might like to know. Yongling is now with me in upstate new york. Her trip was uneventful and we are very happy.
  2. Thanks for the link, would like to see it!! this movie has a very tragic end. so it is not for everyone. i could not help but cry for these two victims of the circumstances handed them by the lives that they had to endure.
  3. i have been watching the movie. it says that they voluteered for this. my wife certainly did not and neither did any of the six other girls who were with her. she was not allowed to attend high school. she and her mother went to ask about this. the superintendent was very mean to them and told them that they were enemies of the chinese people and that their family had a very bad history of mistreating the chinese. her grandfather owned a vegetable oil factory which was seized from him when the communists took over the country. her father was an officer in general chiang kai shek's army. but she was only 16 and had nothing to do with these things that took place in the forties. he told her she would be sent to a tree farm in guizhou province.
  4. i just received today the movie "Xiu Xiu the sent down girl. i have not watched it yet but i see it is banned in china. i got it from the internet in case anyone would like to purchase it. i do not know if i can tell where i got it but use google and you will find it.
  5. a sent down girl is a young teenage girl who was sent away from home to live in very hard conditions and sometimes extremely horrible conditions as my fiancee did. they were sent down because their parents were considered enemies of the chinese people. this was because at sometime in there life they had either fought the communists or made public statements against communism. the girl did nothing wrong to make them do this.
  6. Can you tell me more as to what "sent down girl" means?
  7. tell the consulate all that you know of this situation. they seem to give sent down girls an easier time getting a visa. we had a very hard time getting our visa and were refused the first time because she was a communist. when i wrote them and told them about her situation everything went very fast but she had to fill out more papers. she took them there on a monday. she went back wednesday for her interview which was very easy with no questions asked, only polite conversation. she went back friday and got her visa. 2019 redux is here - http://candleforlove.com/forums/topic/28090-to-anyone-having-a-sent-down-girl/?p=641906
  8. she flies wednesday and she is happy visiting her family. i think it is ok now that she is far from her home and staying at her mother's house. i was very upset and worried at first but i think it will be ok now. only five more days. she will not return to her home. she will fly here the city where her mother lives.
  9. for carl.hops: the cultural revolution in my wife's case was the communists locating and punishing those who fought against them in the forties and their families. her father was an officer in general chinag kai shek's army fighting the army of mao tse tung. her grandfather owned a vegetable oil company and had it seized from him along with all of his property. basicly they went after those who were considered there enemies even young teenagers who were part of the same family. her father was sent away for more than four years and never recovered and died an early death.
  10. to "warpedbored": this hapened when she quit her job and asked about retirement. they told her that she had to see a government official. she went there and he told her that her visa was not good. then another official asked her to bring the visa and all of her forms for him to see.she did not trust them.so she has left the city and gone to her mother's house which is far away. it is full day's trip by train. sincerely: Bob
  11. thanks for the warning randy W. i will take this in consideration but i do want to see it myself. i know my fiancee has been through a lot of torment and maybe will not want to be reminded of such things. i know there is much she has not told me. she cries when she tells these things. sincerely: Bob
  12. i would like to thank each one who has answered my question. she will stay at her mother's house until the day before her flight. she will then fly to guangzhou and fly to the united states. i want to thank david for always answering my questions. i also want to thank tywy_99 for telling me about the movie. i have ordered it from the internet. it should arrive in time for her to watch it with me. sincerely: Bob
  13. My fianc¨¦e finally has her visa after they have received and read our letters, which we have been writing for a year, and they have not received until September. It happened very quickly once they knew about her situation. Now one communist official says the visa is no good and another official wants her to bring the visa to him along with all of her forms. She is very afraid they are going to take her visa or prevent her from leaving china. Has anyone had their visa taken away by the communists? She was sent away at the age of 16 and made to live worse than we would allow our dogs and cats to live. She lived like this for 2 years. For this reason and the fact that she has been a Christian since 2003 she is very afraid of the communists and what they can do. Please reply as she has gone many miles now to stay with her mother until she can fly here. She has a week and 2 days before she can fly. She will skip the first plane from Zhanjiang to Guangzhou and go to Guangzhou and fly from there. She has broke no laws and until recently worked at a state run propane gas facility. sincerely: Bob
  14. wouldn't they let me know if my case has been sent to washington.i have heard nothing from them even though i have written 4 letters in 2 weeks.
  15. david i have sent four letters explaining that my fiancee" s family was persecuted by the communists from 1966 until 1976 and that she was sent away to a tree farm to work in extreme conditions. will these letters be forwarded to washington as well. these letters may help my situation.
