  1. Thank you for your input. I am going to try the copy, notary, seal from the local office. it looks official enough... Although I will say this..I read the IRS Hague Convention guidelines and technically speaking, only Hong Kong and Macao are officially recognized if one chooses not to use the consulate/embassy to do the deeds... We shall see..I am sure that 1000 people will get away with, and I will be the one that has it rejected
  2. So...it looks like it can be notarized by certified agent from Hong Kong or Macao only?
  3. Anyone have info on filing for ITIN? I have the W-7, have our taxes all prepared in a bound book, signed..and a copy of her passport. The question I have, is how the heck do I get the passport notarized? The IRS says that either she goes to the consulate to get a notarized copy, or she sends in the original. They are unsure if a foreign notary will work. The W-7 form claims it will honor foreign notaries in accordance with the "hague convention" Their is a section of this on the website, I will go and read it now, but.. Does anyone have previous experience with this before I go reading what I am sure is an ambiguous document that ten people will interpret ten different ways? She can't go to the consulate in Guangzhou because it is a 6 hour ride and she is 7 months and then some pregnant. I can't do it because post 9-11 notary rules limit certified passport copies to the original holder only..
  4. Finally, an advantage to living in the northeast! As I bundle up on this balmy winter day here in California--as it's a freezing 60 degrees--I am aware that there are millions of people living here who have got a visa from Guangzhou... Congratulations! Good luck on your interview. They are not as scary as everyone says..
  5. Do a search on this site for the Lawyer we call King. He is an American--originally from Washington State I believe--and has been in Guangzhou for some time. His company is called "global visa services" and they are located in the same building as the consulate. Do a search on CFL to find his info. He really helped me with a problem that had me hopeless. Good luck! Rob
  6. I threw so many stinkin' parties in China! I had engagement party, going home parties, coming to china parties, etc...I gave more speeches than I care to admit At first, her family was dead set against marriage to a foreigner..now, I have become quite close with a most of her family, trading emails and phone calls on a regular basis--my constantly improving mandarin helps--and as far as everyone was concerned, once they all interrogated me and had background checks, got me good and drunk and tested me..they all were happy that she found someone who loved her spoiled a**! Yes, they were quite wary of me for some time. Much the same way as my mom, sisters and grandmother were of me to her.. I make jokes about the parties, but there were some that I had to have in order to make my "face" with these people. The bottom line is I had to learn the family culture and do what was expected, and then let things be as they were. I am sure some families similar to my wife's, who are quite prominent, will have big problems with foreigners, but it all went well with the family in my case.. Good luck!
  7. Well...all I can say to that is I guess there is nothing like a clear image of fuzzy picture..
  8. I have to agree with my friend here...Continental has no business with the visa business...but what do I know..I'm just a simple citizen.. Have you ever tried elong.com for flights? I have got some good ones using elong combined with someones elong number in china.. Great news on the visitors visa! rob
  9. Today I dialed the same main number as you and then 1,0 to speak with someone...quickly too! I waited about 10 seconds
  10. I got "certificate of spinsterhood", birth and police certs w/translations for about 800-1000 RMB in Zhanjiang...I don't remember exactly, but it was in that range..
  11. I meant the link for IR-1/DCF for the flowchart/timeline deal...sorry
  12. My biggest wait so far has been the NOA-P3 for our K1. But I do feel ya on the P3-P4 Keep us informed. BTW...on the link for IR-1/DCF..if shows the FBI check occurring after the P3 is entered. I believe for IR-1/DCF the FBI check is ordered as soon as the P3 is sent out... A small thing, but those of us who get paid for these details..it jumps out at ya! Rob
  13. and can we get a big amen for the word "transparent"
  14. I was turned on to CFL by someone I met who worked at the old GUZ...he said it helps them out a lot because we quite often (I don't wish to say always and jinx someone) file everything dotted and crossed.. Good deal on your report, I believe going to the consulate and making friends is a great thing. I had done that a few times and really came to peace that all the people who work there are the same as me and don't wish anyone any harm--unless they really had a tough time with the guy before me or something...but hey, who wants to talk about human nature.. Good luck w/your K-3 Rob
  15. K-3 is a single entry visa. Did you file your I-485 Adjustment of Status? If so, file your "I-131 Advance Parole" document...all found on our friendly USCIS.gov site... Plenty of threads on CFL related to that as well..as I am sure you know.. Good luck! Rob
  16. I would try the lawyer named Peter Paget, aka, King if you wish to retain the services of someone in China. His office is in the same building as the consulate. His company is called "Global Visa Services" Do a search on this site for "king" or "a lawyer known as King" or something like that and you will find his contact info. I am not really sure what you are trying to do, but I seriously don't think the ethnicity of your name is any kind of red flag--unless of course your last is "Bin Laden" or "Hussein".. Good luck! Rob
  17. RLS: I am sure everything everyone has said seems like simple common sense, which it is. I will share my experiences with you.. Me and my Lulu did the ceremonial dinner with family at nice hotel--about 50-60 people. We made sure we had the words 'engagement" on the backdrop, but had pictures of us in wedding clothing. It was not a legal wedding, but in our minds and in that of the family, the engagement was a commitment to marriage, which was as good as any legal document to us. We did show these photos to USCIS and also to GUZ with no problem. I am not advocating anything or recommending anything, I am only sharing my experience with you. I wish you and yours all the best! BTW, we are expecting our first child in two months! Rob
  18. As per my usual response when someone has issues related to legal matters: Retain the attorney known on CFL as King. King is an american attorney living and working for a firm in Guangzhou China that specializes in visas. His name is Peter Paget, his firm is Global Visa. Do a search as I post for him all the time. I do this not at his request, but due to the fact that his consult produced results that greatly exceeded my expectations. I have a friend who married a chinese woman, she is a great person and helps all kinds of people. During the few years I have known her, she has told me of many woman who are looking for american men. One in particular loves to play with men. I know who this woman is and she is one of the most beautiful and exotic looking things I have ever seen. My heart goes out to the men who she has played and pray that I nor anyone I know ever goes through that kind of bullsh**. It is a shame that your SO probably just didn't want to tell you and meant no harm which could now result in dire consequences for you both. I understand the issues faces by DOS, CIS, and GUZ and wish the best for you and your issue. If you cannot find Kings info, PM me. Good luck! Rob
  19. Wow! That is one crappy timeline. I will pray for your case. Also, write a letter to Maura Harty, Director of Consular Services. You can find her info by doing a search here on CFL. If you persist, someone will notice and help you. It is not that the people are trying to mess with your head, it is just govt. paperwork and the fact that among other things, GUZ processes 6000 adoptions every year. This is with a staff that is maybe prepared to do half of that. So, the real problem is that GUZ is short staffed. If you do get a personal contact there, you will find they are very helpful people doing jobs. Good luck! Rob
  20. Ski, The K1 Visa is a one time entry visa. You do have options, but none are guaranteed. First, I would contact the GUZ and see if you can't get the visa "restamped" so to speak. I was unable to do this in a similar situation, but we were already married--thus K1 was no longer an option. You may have better luck than I in this regard. I did have luck, but through a different path. Technically, once she enters the USA, the K1 is no longer valid for re-entry, but you may apply for and receive an "Advance parole" once you marry and apply for change of status. This allows her to leave while your I-485 is being processed. This takes a few months, though and your situation does not seem to warrant all this delay. You can also try to for an "additional action on"..an approved homeland security document. I am not sure of the specific doc numbers, but this is an option. This option would allow for a new K1 from CIS. Once again, you must contact someone at CIS office--use the 800 number and wait, you will get someone to speak to and if you are not satisfied, you can get a supervisor or specialist. I stress that immediate action is your best bet. Once you are out of the country, she will not be able to return. You can contact King--aka Peter Paget with Global Visa Services at the following location and retain him to assist you. This would be the safest course of action. Global Visa Consulting Center, 1st floor, 2nd annex Tian Yu Garden 136-142 Linhe Zhong Road Guangzhou, Guangdong China 510610 Tel: 8620 388 53088 Or, try using the following email: info@gzglobal.net Make sure you put in the title: "forward to Jade" She will be very helpful in connecting you to King. He is an American Lawyer who has been in GZ for quite some time. He is very understanding and helpful. It is affordable and highly helpful to retain his services. Good luck! Rob
  21. Sorry, I forgot to post the contact info for King...it is way too late here for an old man like me... Global Visa Center Peter Paget, Attorney at law Tianyu Garden 1st floor (yes, the consulate bldg!) (8620)38853088 His assistant, Jade is also very helpful as are anyone you get in this office!
  22. If you feel you need help, contact the attorney that is known as King on CFL....do a search for his contact info. If you cannot find it..email me and I will respond with it! Good luck..and don't worry too much. The guys at the GZ Cons are the best. I have lived in Italy and in Spain, and these guys' workload is ridiculous, but they still manage to help people and keep their cool 99 times out of a 100.. Rob
  23. In case anyone is interested....King is the man! If someone needs a great lawyer to help them with this visa madness..I highly recommend him. Good luck to all! Rob
  24. Does anyone have experience with Advance Parole having left the United States before applying? Background: We entered on her K1, we were married within 90 days and then had an emergency that caused her to leave immediately to china. Now, she is 3 months pregnant and we obviously want her back before our child is born. Before you respond, please know that I am aware of the "one-time entry" for K1 visa in addition to the line item on the I-131 stating leaving the U.S is equivalent to abandonment. (Note that this is also present on the I-485 doc) Thank you for any help/advice/referral anyone can provide Rob and Jialu
