  1. With the price of memory, I would always opt for 4G over 2G. Regardless of any article, surfing with multiple windows open, or just running multiple programs, the extra memory will aid performance. Now if you are a one website at a time, or one program at a time user, then yes 2G will work just fine.
  2. Everyone here has given some good advice. Here are somethings that I tell those that come to me for computer advice. First you need to decide what you are going to use the computer for. Is it for gaming, surfing, both or work. That will lead you to what you NEED for a CPU and graphics card. Memory is cheap, but you need enough to support your OS, 2G is good, but 4G is much better. The other big thing to consider is this: There is 2 places that you will be able to see how well your computer operates. The monitor and what is printed. Not much to say if you buy some very nice computer and display it on some old 17" monitor. CPU speed is a good consideration. But unless your some big programmer, you probably don't need the top of the line CPU. Mid to upper level dual or quad core. I have two computers with XP and 2 with Vista. I like them both (the OSs).
  3. Looks like you have it all covered.
  4. Good News!! Another Citizen On the Way!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Good News. No--- Very Good News!!! Congrats!!!
  6. This fall or next spring, we are going to do the same. I should have done this earlier, but with work, citizenship prep and all, just ran out of time.
  7. http://www.traveldocs.com/cn/vrdc.htm I haven't tried this one, but will as soon as the kids US Passports get resolved. Has a note about Chinese born US Citizens:
  8. I don't know if I agree with this one, not totally anyway. Too much grey area for the VO to say what a "basic" conversation is. If the couple communicates, through various means, like electronic translators, sign language, pictures etc. , they are making a real effort to understand each other, then they are communicating. A sham couple can learn enough of each others language to put on a show, but a true couple will exhaust all avenues available to communicate.
  9. That works too. My wife's decree, did not state that she had sole custody.
  10. After your wife recieves her citizen certificate, the children under 16 become citizens automatically. They can file the N-600 to get their certificate. They also can file to get a US Passport. We filed, but now need to get a letter from the 'X' to allow them to have a US passport. Good law, but written with a broad pen. Assumes that all 'X'es are in the US and the parent with possession of the children will run away to another country with the kids.
  11. The theory is: If they keep the petitioner out, the VO can say anything and not get too much of an argument. Plus, the interview would go on forever if the petitioner were in there, contesting every point the VO brought out. The number of white and blue slips would probably drop too, and that wouldn't look good for them. I still think they work on the quota system. The VO's get more points for blue and white slips.
  12. Public Law 106-113, states that to issue a passport to a child under the age of 16, both parents must be present or have a notarized statement from one parent allowing the child to get a US passport. Well the law is designed to the child from International Parental Abduction. ie, keep mama from taking the kids to another country without the father from knowing. So we didn't get the kids passports, yet. We didn't have a letter from the kids father. After all, they have already left the country without him. But the law is the law (I guess), and now we are attempting to get a letter from him, to allow the kids to get a US Passport, so they can travel to China. Their China passports are still good, so it is not a really big deal. I understand the law, and it's intentions are good, and I understand that they don't know if the father is here or in Timbuktu, but shouldn't there be some leway in the law? Frustrated, but still standing and pushing on.
  13. Originals came back yesterday. Still no word on the kids.
  14. The passport website still shows that the applications can not be found in their system, but the wife's passport arrived today. Still waiting for the children's and the original documents to be returned.
  15. We applied on Jan. 23 and they cashed the checks on Jan. 27. So far nothing on the passport website.
  16. When we were emailing each other, I had a translation program that would let me email her in Chinese. It would also translate hers for me. So my wife took a lot of emails to her interview. We were denied, because they needed more time. Hell they invited us to be there, and they needed more time? We believe that someone from my wife's past had sent a letter to GUZ telling some lie, and they had to investigate it. I just delayed us about 6 months.
  17. Sorry to hear the news. Many here learn of this site after this sort of thing has happened. Some are on board early and have tapped the vast sea of experience and knowledge, and get prepared. Some of those still are denied (we were twice), but stand up and get right back into the battle. You will overcome this obsticle.
  18. That is great news. Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. I-797C is the Notice Of Action (NOA) and the I-797 is the Notice of Approval. I don't know about the AP, sorry.
  20. I just give my wife my say, then we see who is right when it is over. I never say I told you so. My wife and I see the final result, look at each other, then go on with business. But biting the tongue sure hurts sometimes.
  21. I am looking at the Ctrip site. Is the discount fare for real? What is the difference between the full fare and discounted fare?
  22. That is great. Our plan is about the same. Our retirement is only about 10-13 years away. And we will be living in China. I don't know about teaching English. I want to get a job at the great GUZ, being a VO.
