  1. My wife called yesterday. She is in China helping her mother get ready for her tourist visa interview. Seems the Great GUZ called and asked them if they could come for their interview a week early. So they did, and with hardly a question asked, my mother-in-law passed. Now they just need to wait to receive the visa. Ain't that something?!
  2. OK. Mother-in-law has her visa interview on March 28. What is the typical time between "Congratulations you passed" and "Here is your visa". With her interview on a Thursday can she get the visa on that day, the next day or will they be there thru the weekend?
  3. Sounds great. That will make the MIL happy. She can wait for my wife to get there to make the interview call.
  4. Does anyone know when the call is made to setup the interview, about how far out it is? My mother-in-law wants to wait for my wife to come back in January before making the call. We are planning on them returning here in mid April. Will there be enough time? Thanks
  5. OK Great. Passport and Confirmation page to the bank. Then call and setup the interview date. Is that correct?
  6. OK. Just submitted the e-DS160 and got the confirmation page. Printed it and the application for reference. Now what does my mother-in-law use to go to the bank? Does she take the confirmation page or should we be expecting something else? Thanks.
  7. Great thanks. Any idea on how much time there is between submittal and appointment?
  8. So, I've been working on the "online" DS-160 for my mother-in-law. Can I submit it for her? Or does she need to submit from her home? How long from submittal until the visa interview? I saw that someone used a visa drop box. Is that all over China or only in certain cities? And can it be used for the first time submittal? Thanks
  9. Welcome to the Candle. There is much wisdom here.
  10. Wow that is really quick. So how much time do they allow from issuance of visa until coming for the visit?
  11. OK Thanks. Still need us to send her a letter of invite?
  12. OK, point made and taken. So she will have to go on line and fill out the DS-160, after she gets her passport. Does not appear that we can fill out the 160 for her. Since it is done online, I guess all suporting documents will have to be taken with her to the appointment? Or can they be uploaded with the 160 like the photo? Anyone know?
  13. Thanks Tsap. That's more what I was asking about. An idea where to start. I had read the first 6 pages or so and got lost in the threads. I just needed to understand where to start the process. How have you been? Like I said, I've been away for a long time. Good to hear from you.
  14. Start at page one of this thread. Supposed to be some kind of joke? Nice. And your admin?
  15. OK. I have been away a long time. Now thinking of bring the mother-in-law over for a visit next year, maybe around the time our daughter graduates from HS. Where do I start? Like I said, been away a long time.
  16. We tried magic-jack for about 2 weeks. Got tired of asking those we were talking to to repeat what they said. Switched to italkbb, and have never looked back. My wife's cell phone minutes usage dropped from over 700 minutes a month to about 200-300.
  17. The article I read said not on Asian flights "YET". It said they are coming.
  18. We have not had a problem since we figured out that I can not read the directions and had the phone hooked up to the wrong jack. Seems one is for the phone will call out and receive calls. The other would only call out, not receive. I didn't read the directions. Had to be connected to Phone 1 jack. I didn't see the small print and hooked up to the phone 2 jack.
  19. She would be able to get the US passport based on the mother's naturalization. Have to send a copy of mother's papers with the application. But, like they said, timing is everything.
  20. Take a look at our time line.
  21. I tried mj. After 2 weeks I sent it back. I have cable so speed of connection was never the issue. The quality of the phone reception was terrible. My patient wife was talking to her mother, and after the 9th "what", she gave up. That was it for us. We tried i-talkBB and have never looked back. I also didn't like keeping a computer running 24-7 just to keep phone service. I am glad it works for some, it just didn't work for us.
  22. My family is in China this summer, and my daughter is learning how to drive while she is there. The schools here do not teach driver's ed until their sophomore year in HS, and they only teach the classroom stuff. It is up to the parents to teach the behind the wheel things. So she will get her learner's permit later this year, and then have 2 years before she can get her license. So another Chinese woman driver will be on the roads soon. Watch out.
