  1. Had to look that one up. Geomancy (from the Latin geo, "Earth," mancy "prophecy") is a method of divination to interpret markings on the ground or how handfuls of dirt land when you toss them. Handfuls of dirt? Kinda sounds like my house before Jingwen took over.
  2. There's been a lot of discussion on what needs to go with the I-134, so you can do a search to read more about it. My read of the I-134 is that the required documentation turns on how you intend to meet the thresholds. If you are relying on assets to meet the threshold, bank account information is important as would be other assets. If you are relying on income, employer/self-employed/tax return information would be important. If you are using a combination of both, everything then becomes important. I relied solely on income to meet the thresholds, so I did not provide any documentation relating to bank accounts/assets. Whether this was okay will never be know since the I-134 was never reviewed the the VO. Others have supplied everything that they could on the theory that it is better to provide too much documentation than too little.
  3. It sounds like the Office of Redundancy is slipping a bit. Only 4 e-mails?
  4. What concerns me is that when more hands touch the documents, the more things are likely to screw up - documents not getting delivered on time, theft, documents getting misdirected, etc. Would someone clarify if it is just the brown envelope that it being re-directed or is it the passport and visa too. If passports/visas are being delivered as well, I think the risk factor goes up. What do you think a passport with a valid US visa in it is worth on the black market these days?
  5. Good to hear. Glad it finally worked out for you two.
  6. The new pick-up procedures comport with Roger's recent post: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index....=1&t=10068&st=0 I hope GZ knows what they're doing. I'm not sure I'd want to entrust visas and passports to China Post - no offense, postal workers, but things seems to get lost more easily in China's mails. Maybe they're using EMS.
  7. That big boulder is starting to roll. Watch out GZ. Good luck.
  8. I think it was Andy Young, a former mayor of Atlanta, who related this story. While he was mayor, he got a phone call from an irate constituent asking why Atlanta needed six road workers just to fill one pothole. Incredulous, he went to the jobsite to see for himself. When he got back to his office, he called the constituent and told her she was wrong. There weren't six workers fixing the pothole. There was only one worker actually fixing the pothole. The other five were supervisors.
  9. Here are a couple of threads that might help. http://candleforlove.com/forums/index....f=1&t=9801&st=0 http://candleforlove.com/forums/index....c3e66ac7dec53e1
  10. Yippee. It's almost over. Congratulations and best wishes to you both.
  11. By AOS, I'm assuming you mean Affidavit of Support. I would make sure she has a copy just in case. As Trigg has pointed out, the Office of Redundancy will almost guarantee that whatever you have previously provided will not be made available to others within the government. Better to have cut down another tree.
  12. Well Frank, you tell that famous dude who lives near Nashville that I'm the boss in this area. He's likley a goat herder anyway. OH, and Nashville is only 128 miles from Choo Choo town!! Ok, my pleasure. "Trigg, Trigg is the boss in that area. As the main TN boss, he holds sway over the Southern minions and keeps the goat population on the move to points west." Did I miss anything?
  13. Hot damn, another Southerner. Our most infamous Southerner may well be living near Nashville, but Atlanta is closer.
  14. June seems to be shaping up as a good CFL month. Good luck.
  15. I requested transcripts, but they didn't arrive in time. I want to say it took more than 30 days to actually get them. Later, I found out that the regional IRS office here in Atlanta has a walk-in service that people can use to get copies and print outs of filings.
  16. If you watch very closely, you can actually see the wheels of government moving ever so slowly. Congratulations. Have you gotten the P4 yet? One piece of advice. Make sure all your documents (notarial certificates, etc.) are up to date. If I recall, the GZ website uses a one year validity period for many documents. Many folks here go ahead and get updated documents if they're older than 6 months.
  17. Jingwen did not file the I-131 with her AOS. It took about 2 months for her to receive it from the Atlanta office.
  18. I'm going to shift gears just a bit. Jingwen and I have been discussing what kind of diet KK, our daughter, should be on after her baby is born. Jingwen wants to eliminate vegetables from her diet, saying that it's necessary to keep the milk flowing. Other than the effect on the milk from tomatoes and other acidic vegetables, I don't remember there being any connection between vegetables and breast milk quantity. Is this another tradition or is there some truth to it?
  19. This reminds me. Did I hear correctly that all I-485's now go to the Chicago lockbox rather than to the local office?
  20. I think it may vary from office to office. In Atlanta, the vaccination supplement went in a sealed envelope with the AOS.
  21. Interestingly, in Georgia (at least in Atlanta), you can take the written test in Chinese. The sign test is in English, and the actual road test is in Southern as is "hook a right, son".
