  1. refering to the "left leaves", my family believes it's bad for health, no connection to "bad luck" as I know
  2. I got tympanitis when I was 2 or 3 years old, without my mom doing xiao er tui na to me, I probably would be deaf now~
  3. "What about all of the jj and dd out there too (jiejie and diedie)? Why do some people from China always assume that people are meimei and gege?" as I know, they are just short terms for "girlfriend" and "boyfriend", and only used on the internet. but even the gf is elder than the bf, we still call them "mm" and "gg". like we have discussed (maybe in another tread) that most chinese women like dating elder men. I assume maybe 80% or 90% relationship in China are like that. and also I assume that maybe 70% realationship in US are like that as well. I guess it's normal that women seek elder men for more security, it happens everywhere in the world. so we just adopt the majority's choice I guess~ it's not a big difference I'm not sure if it's only me who think working hard, drinking cold beverages, eating cold food, using tampons for swimming .... are unacceptable when you are in your period. coz no else chinese girls said anything about this yet. but all the friends I know, they are same like me, and I believe they won't change their mind in their whole life. for me, I use tampons and I think it's a great invention for women, but none of my girl friends are using it~ they don't like it, or maybe they are afraid to indirectly admit that they are not "virgin" anymore~ but I'm afraid I would never use tampons to go swimming, it's still a totally unaceeptable thing for me. in my experience, drinking cold beverages or running hard .... did make my period abnormal. in china, it's not only "old wives' tales", I think it's based on chinese medicine too, if you inquire a chinese doctor, he/she would give the same suggestion as an old wife does~ I use birth control too, but I won't use it to stop my period for a very long time, I don't think it's good for my health. maybe i should post on 001 forum to start Pools about "if drinking or eating cold, working hard, using tampons to go swimming...are totally unacceptable for you?"~ coz seems like no chinese girl would like to join me here~
  4. wow big difference! almost every chinese girl won't do that~ the elder chinese women always tell us it will hurt your body you can feel the damage especially when you get old~ the period is a very delicate thing for chinese girls I think some of my friends eat date in their period and never touch the cold stuff thanks for your information
  5. I have been confused since I saw a commercial on TV many years ago it was a commercial of American tampons it showed a girl going swimming when she was in period of course by using this product I've been told many many times in china that when you are in period you can't have either cold food or cold drinks you can't go swimming unless it's totally finished~ you can't wash anything with cold water .....etc. but seems like american mms don't care much about that? is that true? both American mm and Chinese mm are welcome to leave your opinions on this ~ and gg are welcome too, to speak for your mm~
  6. I was born in 1980, kinda between the "culture revolution generation" and "internet" generation. I've experienced the "poverty" of china but also catched up with the new generations in many ways. for my opinion, there actually are some difference between your MMs, some of them I know were divorced, even have childern from former marriage, but some of them are even younger than me, not even graduat from college. most of you guys talked about "frugal" of your mm, for me, it's easy to understand, I guess all of them are elder than my age. even for me, I can't get rid of this attitude of life, the memories of childhood are still vivid, to have a house phone at home was almost a dream never come true~first experience of instant noodle was to share a bag of it with 2 or 3 friends, I mean it was not even boiled, but dried...a happy memory though~there was only one kind of vegetable available in winter: chinese cabbage~ I believe your mms got more stories than I do, that's why even nowadays you can get almost everything in china, and your life is 100 times better than those days, you are still "frugal" into your bones. but the girls in 1980's? I guess they would be less "frugal"~ (i guess no 1990's girls are in our discussion yet) frankly I almost don't have any girl friends who were born after 1980, so I will just leave this topic for younger mms to discuss. I suppose marriage can change a person a lot, so if your mm are divorced, her idea of many things probably would be totally different from mine~ even she is at my age, we won't be the exact same either I started this thread just because I was curious about how american gg think about chinese mm, I was not intending to start a "goodie" "baddie" discussion~ for me the american mms here are kind and considerate, unfortunately I've not had an american mm friend yet I would like to make friends with them once I get together with my gg
  7. hey lele ~ I'm from QingDao too~ wish we could meet here someday~ glad to see your case has been handled so fast~ I'm still here in qingdao, waiting for my P4 although we almost send the applications out at the same time when I was abroad working, my best friend was intending to see me there but she need a letter from company she was working at, a few thousand us dollars deposited in bank.... there were something more sorry I can't recall which were almost impossible for her to obtain at that time, so she gave it up my cousin and her friend made a trip to the place where I worked but they were refused for the first time only made it at the 2nd coz my boss wrote a letter to guarantee that they would be back to china on time it's kinda hard to explain why the guarantee was so important but it really worked otherwise they couldn't make it coz they were unmarried chinese women and I read a news last year that malaysia goverment wouldn't issue visa to unmarried chinese woman under 25ys old kinda insulting~ yeah, I've got visa to phillipines very easy and I believe it would be easy for me to get a visa to go other SE asian countries too. what I was talking about were mostly concerning more modern countries, like Japan and Korea in Asia, and most of the western countries my gg has no problems to come to china living here with me we've talked about this already~ so maybe someday we can sit together in a restaurant in Qingdao and talk about this more~
  8. my gg said I always saying "it's ok~ never mind"
  9. hey~ I used to work in casino too~ but Engineering department, no tips at all!
  10. I know some chinese ppl bought a lot of alaska fish oil when they were going back to china. also I guess "American dietary supplements and meds " are good choices! chinese ppl pay much more attention in taking those stuff than working out in gym I brought some VictoriaSecret body lotion for my girl friends when I came back, they like it~and I guess brand perfume is good for girls too, coz high tax on those stuff in china~
  11. hehe~ that's right~ and that's why I found my american gg so interesting~ in china, american gg are known for spliting bills with the one he dates, is that true? coz my gg never let me pay even a penny when we dated~ his answer to this question is only a pathetic guy would do that to a girl he dates.
  12. Could you tell me in your opinion what's the difference between chinese girls and the US girls? for me, US gg are more gentleman, more considering~ he cares his health condition more( I mean go gym more than chinese gg )~~~ he is fun to explore because of different culture~ he never be afraid to say "I love you", even in front of his friends~ he respects woman more than chinese gg~ and seems like US gg are more family men than chinese gg, mmm...this is different from what I learnt from the US movies. but US gg don't speak Chinese or don't speak it well, sometimes they eat too much fastfood~ uhh~~~ can't think of anything else so far, will keep updating~
  13. sorry robert, I think i over reacted maybe my reading skill is not so perfect that I misunderstood you and I always have problems to express myself well in English hope there will be a day that everybody in the world can communicate with each other without any language obstacles and DaiWei, I've talked with my gg about this long time ago when we were planning his trip to china he agreed with me on this point and he would like to DO AS ROMANS DO (but I still believe he will tip anyway "as breathing to him" ) we don't have a problem on this now I was just giving a example to say that probably "a 100rmb note" is not appropriate in china for tipping and unfortunately I've heard from one of 001 mm abouth this "100rmb note" thing I forgot to ask if she talked with her gg about this if not, the misunderstanding won't just dissapear by itself I guess I'm trying my best to reduce the misunderstanding between different cultures here, and really wish someday we can blar-blar-blar in chinese ~ hoho~ thanks for everybody, I appreciate all the information you offered.
  14. thanks for everybody for us, the green card is just a MUST for being together with our love unfortunately somebody are hunting it with ugly methods, which made our applications last so stupid long actually to be a young sigle chinese woman, it's almost impossible to get a tourist visa to go abroad to see things but since I'm getting married soon, and probably I will get a green card in very few years it will be much easier for me to travel thank you guys for all the information you offered.
