  1. The wheels of government grind ever so slowly, but they do grind. You are right in that the hardest part is not being able to do anything about it but wait. Hang in there and, like a bad kidney stone, this too shall pass.
  2. A most intelligent decision. Best of luck to you. Just one added piece of information. It is no disgrace if your BF has depression problems. Proper diagnosis and treatment can often alleviate the condition. Support him but encourage him to find out what can be done.
  3. I would certainly obtain updated documents. This if from the consulate's website: http://www.usembassy-china.org.cn/guangzho...u/iv/kvfaq.html What's the period of validity for medical reports and notarial certificates? Notarial birth certificates, marriage certificates and divorce certificates have unlimited validity. Medical reports, notarial single certificates and police certificates are good for one year from the date of issuance. As a general rule, the medical personnel at the facility that conducted the exam will assemble the P4 documents that will go with the applicant to the interview. It is this set of documents that should be current.
  4. I have noticed that the kids prefer to stay indoors after school, so I asked them why they're not getting out with their new friends. They said it was too hot. This is coming from a family that grew up in Southern China where the temperatures are routinely in the 90's/100's during the height of the summer. It's only in the 80's in Atlanta now. Come to find out that it's the sun. Seems that the smog in China is the reason - hot yes, but rarely direct sunlight. Sounds like I'm going to have to explain suntan lotions and SPF ratings.
  5. Just a thought here Mick. Jingwen and the kids received their NOA's for their EAD and AOS, along with note that the applications have been forwarded to Missouri, and an MSC number was assigned. Is is possible that this change is processing has created lost applications?
  6. Not a good idea to violate the law, nor is it a good idea to advise someone else to violate the law.
  7. It sounds like you know that the files were sent on April 3rd. Check this link: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index....65dd09dda0071d4 Using the information that you have (date sent, sender address, destination address), you can probably get a waybill number by calling DHL. Then you can go to the DHL website and track the number to determine if it has been delivered to GZ. Chances are you will find several shipments to GZ from NVC, so you'll have to use your best judgment on which one is yours. Usually it's the one that says "clearance delay". Once the package is actually received by GZ, it will take several weeks before they get around to entering it into their system. Until they actually post the information into their database, GZ will not acknowledge that they have your files.
  8. Thought I'd post this to confirm what the others have been saying - you can't change your K status: From the USCIS website - http://shusterman.com//cgi-bin/ex-link.pl?.../nonimmstat.htm Eligibility Information: Who May Apply to Change to a New Nonimmigrant Status? In general, you may apply to change your nonimmigrant status if you were lawfully admitted into the United States with a nonimmigrant visa, your nonimmigrant status remains valid, and you have not committed any crimes that would make you ineligible. You may not apply to change your nonimmigrant status if you were admitted to the United States in the following visa categories: (VWPP) - Visa Waiver Pilot Program (or the Guam Visa Waiver Program) D - As a crewman C - As an alien in transit or in transit without a visa K - As a fianc¨¦(e) or spouse of a U.S. citizen or dependent of a fianc¨¦(e) or spouse S - As an informant (and accompanying family) on terrorism or organized crime
  9. We sent in our apps on April 15th, but the checks just cleared yesterday. Looking back, I'm glad I sent them in before the fee increase. AOS, EAD, and fingerprinting (three sets) totaled $1,275 before the increase.
  10. Man, what a roller coaster ride. Time to get off and start that life with Bing. Please tell her that we all can't wait for you two to arrive in the states. Frank and Jingwen
  11. It's all over but the waiting. You'll be fine. Looking forward to hearing the good news. Have a great trip.
  12. I read on another forum that a fiancee just had her interview scheduled for mid May. Sounds like GZ is still cranking them out (drip, drip, drip)
  13. Happy Birthday. Just think what your parents were doing 46 years and 9 months ago.
  14. Clifford, I had made a comment in the Our Stories Section about John Roth, an attorney who specializes in Russian immigration. I just wanted to post it here. I do NOT endorse any particular lawyer, but I did have a lengthly conversation (free) with him when I started the visa process. Because his specialty was dealing with Russian fiancees, I passed on using him. When Jason posted his story and said that he was using Roth, it jogged my memory. Maybe he can shed some light on Irina's problem.
  15. Ah, the benefits of the consulate in Hong Kong. Congratulations. It's almost over.
  16. Wonderful news.!!!!! Can't wait to hear the details. Carl should send them a bill.
  17. Take a look at http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/affsupp.htm#poverty For a family of two, the 125% amount is $15,612 for most of the US. You can also use 1/5 of you liquid assets to meet this amount if your income is insufficient. If your income/assets can't get you there, you'll probably need a co-sponsor whose income/assets will meet the requirements.
  18. May the force be with you. Wait, wrong SciFi. Very funny Scotty, now beam me down my clothes.
  19. Yes. Here's the correspondence. Me - 11/15: I am writing to confirm that you have re-sent the instruction packet (Packet 3) to my fiancee, ****** Jingwen, GUZ ******** On 3 November 2003, you informed me that you had sent my fiancee instructions and forms for her interview. When she did not receive this information, I contacted the consulate and was then asked to supply her address in Chinese. This is I did via email and fax. Unfortunately, she has still not received any correspondence from the consulate. Would you please confirm that you have re-sent this information to her and advise me of the date of mailing. If the instruction packet has not been re-sent, I ask that it be re-sent at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Frank ********* ____________________________________ GZ - 11/17: Dear Mr. Frank ********, Thank you for your email, regarding the application of Ms.*******. As what was said in the previous email, please provide us Ms. ******'s current address in Chinese character via email. Then we will resend the packet. Best regards. IV SECTION ___________________________________ Me - 11/17: As requested, here is Ms. *****'s address in Chinese characters. [name and address in Chinese characters] Would you please confirm that you have sent the instruction packet for Ms. **** and her two children. Thank you. Frank ***** ___________________________________ GZ- 11/18: Dear Mr. Frank *******, Thank you for your email. We have resent the instruction packet on 11/18/03. Please fill out the forms in the packet and send them back to us. Best regards. IV SECTION
  20. When this happened to me, I also faxed the address - nothing. Wrote them again. Then I emailed the address, despite the notice that Chinese character emails are a no-no. This did the trick, and the P3 arrived about three days later. Go figure.
