To Marry in US or China First?
Kyle replied to pnuts09's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
I totally agree with this. Also, once the visa is granted then you have 6 months before it expires. Except that it makes no sense whatsoever. When and where they get married has no bearing whatsoever on their immigration chances, except that a LONGER period of marriage BEFORE you apply can work to your advantage. Get married WHEN and WHERE you want. THEN apply for the visa six months to a year before you expect to move to the U.S. Your current B-2 plus an extension should allow the U.S. visitation you are desiring. An extension should be fairly easy, even if you're already married at that time, provided you DON'T submit the I-130 FIRST. Completely agree with this -
I would also agree with the advice already mentioned: 1. Stick to bottled water (for consumption and brushing your teeth) 2. Take some Melatonin with you for bedtime. I disagree w/ drinking a lot of alcohol as doing so may help you fall asleep, but seldom keeps one sleeping through the whole night. 3. After arriving in China, as much as your able, get outside during the day hours. There is a nerve on the top of your head that helps fluctuate your internal clock. Sunlight helps this along. 4. I did take pepto chewables along w/ Imodium AD pills. I remember my first venture to China; it took some time for my digestive system to adjust to the large amounts of oil used for food preparation. 5. If you're stomach can't handle spicy foods, you might try practicing the phrase "I don't want hot spices/pepper" "不要辣椒" bu yao la jiao. I found that a lot of my digestive issues were resolved after my sleeping patterns were back to normal. Lack of sleep, at least for me, threw everything out of whack.

Taking the train in China?
Kyle replied to MN2China's topic in Communications, Planes, Shipping & Money
I love taking the train in China. Well, to be honest "love" might be a little strong, but I do enjoy it. It's nice to leave at night and wake up at your destination. If you fly, you're wasting your awake time traveling. I have had some negative experiences on the train, but have also had them in a taxi and plane. I'd at least try it once so you can form your own conclusion. -
I've found that banks do not uniformly follow the same guidelines. Perhaps there is no definite standard of operations that exists. This is especially true when it comes to credit unions. I think the big problem, especially in our case is that our situation is not the norm and we often find various employees who have no idea how to successfully navigate the situation; this often results as a blanket "no" response to your spouses. I agree w/ Dan, that most problems can be solved when explained and handled in person. Now for round two, the Dept of Revenue.

Can she get a state photo Id?

I don't think it's needed but you might want to take supporting documentation such as a marriage license with you if questions arise. This isn't an uncommon situation. Nice picture BTW
-
I would second the idea with including as much useful documentation when submitting your I130 that can present more insight to your relationship. For example, we included about 40 photos, letters from family and friends, etc. The more documentation you provide in the beginning can greatly decrease the stress and difficulty of her interview later on. That was our experience. Good luck and welcome to CFL http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?/topic/39043-dcf-filers-in-guangzhou-need-wifes-original-passport/page__view__findpost__p__520652

I went to a language school. That being said, the school taught grammar, sentence patterns, and vocab; none of it wouldn't of stuck though if I didn't just use it in every day life. Practice w/ your wife and those that you meet on the street. It's a great way to build confidence and solidify your foundation. Pimsleur, is a good way to learn basic vocab and sentence structure if you're flying solo (ie walking the streets of China by yourself). http://www.pimsleur.com/Learn-Mandarin-Chinese

Doubt it. The volume of applicants from China is just too large. It is a shame though.

I have those lined up w/ Netflix but haven't managed to watch them yet. My wife said they're good.

You know, I was surprised that my wife liked their doughnuts. I've always been a big fan of them, but figured they'd be too sweet for her. Nope, they gave Jing2 a free one while waiting in line, and she bought three more when she got up to the cashier. Atta girl.

My wife likes western cuisine. Of course, she will always go back to her "home base" I was the same way. When I lived in China, I loved Chinese food, but every now-and-then, I just wanted a steak.

for the lady, my wife suggested bookmarks or a multiple photo frame - a nice one.
