Those "instructions" are just guidelines for the Interview Officer, that in the real world the Officer takes very little interest in. Having very much in assets, money, houses, etc. has little weight with the Interview Officer. That is just the way it is. The Officer is interested in seeing Tax Transcripts for 3 years on income "well over" the minimum. I think this is true in many cases. I'd suggest looking into a joint sponsor. I do not think your assets count for nothing, but in the end, security is what the VO is looking for. When you sign on the dotted line of the I-864 (and the joint sponsor), it is in effect, a legal binding contract between the sponsor and good ol Uncle Sam.

Another document intake question
Kyle replied to pbatt's topic in Consulate Process: P-3 ~ Interview
I think your instincts are right on. If your most current tax transcripts will help give more positive light into your situation, by all means, use em! Also, if you're police cert is going to expire, you'll need a new one as well. They're good for one year -
We're not big TV watchers. We do have netflix, and use that quite a bit. I'm a big fan of documentaries, Seinfeld, and sports. Jingjing, well, she likes Friends, Monk, and NCIS. That's about it.

Yeah, I saw that on the news. That can't be a good sign of things to come

International travel under 2 year green card ?
Kyle replied to MarcRosie's topic in AOS & Immigration Challenges
Periods longer than 6 months also screw up your continuous residency, meaning, the green card holder will have to start over. This of course, only affects the time one could apply for citizenship. -
That's funny! Congratulations!

Hey, if and when you do make that trip, pleas let me know! The falls ARE in my back yard. Also if doing the falls, you may consider making a trip up to Toronto, there are several Chinese neighborhoods in that metro area. Also if planning a trip to Niagara here is a deal that just came up in my email: One- or Two-Night Stay for Two in a Guest Room or Suite at The Red Coach Inn in New York Defintely, will do. We're tyring to plan around her trips to China and school, but yes, we are going to make it up there. The falls are something I've always wanted to see.

That's the same reason we're waiting as well. For now, Jing2 and I are planning a trip up to Niagra.

Should be. You can call the hospital to make sure. My wife arrived on a Monday and finished her medical that day. Most hospitals offer one day processing for a nominal fee

Like Mike, I have had to wait a few days at times when wiring money from the US to China.

Cool! Have a great trip. I enjoyed my time in Guangzhou

What's more important seeing the living or the dead?
Kyle replied to griz326's topic in Culture & Language Discussion
I would agree w/ A Mafan. For my wife, she'd rather be there before a family member passes. Jingjing would however want to be there after the passing, not really for the funeral itself, but to be a support to other friends and family members -
Congratulations, David! I'm happy for you both.

Yes, Congratuations!

My wife's packet corner was cut. If that's what you're referring to, it's not an issue

After entry to America, your green card will be processed and mailed to you. Until that time, the I-551 stamp will act as a temporary "green card" The stamp is valid for one year. This will be done by the officer who takes that big packet of information at POE (this is the same packet that will be mailed to you shortly - Don't open the packet beforehand!). The POE officer (point of entry) will put the stamp right in her passport. If you checked "yes" to Q43 on the DS-230, a SSN card/number can be automatically created and a card will also be sent to her in the mail. There have been some reports of Q43 being checked "yes" and the SSN card never arriving. In those cases, I'd wait about a month after entering the US and then go to your nearest SSA office and inquiring. If you didn't request that one be created for the applicant, I'd still wait a few weeks after entering the US before going to SSA and asking about this. For my wife, she had both her perminent GC and SSN card sent to her in the mail roughly a month after entry to the US

No.2 Question on DS230 Part 1
Kyle replied to wateress's topic in Consulate Process: P-3 ~ Interview
My wife put her English name under "other names used" or Q2. For Q2, for example, my wife put "Jessica" which is the English name (not her legal name) she sometimes used while in China (my wife taught English). To be honest, I never called her that, nor have I heard her refer herself as Jessica. I tend to look at Q2 as more of an "aliases" used question. Just an FYL edit: I believe Q2 entries will probably result in another entry for background check. Not a big deal in my opinion -
How well are you able to communicate with your spouse?
Kyle replied to Super Grad's topic in Culture & Language Discussion
That's a really good point. -
You have a talent, Carl. I admire people like you and my father who hold such abilities.

Well put. Or, if my case, Jingjing just tells me what I should think and well, that's it. Of course, I'm kidding. Jing2 was actually fluent in English when I met her. I studied Chinese for three main reasons 1. To be able to navigate w/o her assistance in China. 2. To better understand Jingjing's upbringing and communicate w/ her parents. 3. To form meaningful relationships/friendships in China. Of course there is a language barrier, but by using clarification words in the other's native tongue, misunderstandings are quickly resolved. -

Keep the posts on topic please. Super Grad's questions are valid; She should feel welcome to post here. Thanks guys. -
Just a note about mailing your green card over to China. I've found the Chinese mail system entirely unreliable. If it were me, I'd not have my parents send it to China. If you are going to return to the US prior to the temp I-551 expiration, I don't know why you wouldn't just wait. If by chance it did get lost, damaged, etc during shipping - it's a 450.00 USD replacement cost. I'm just throwing that out there. I have used services such as DHL, with success. That being said, 450.00 is a lot of money. In theory, you could go back to china the next day. At POE, they will stamp your passport upon entry to America. This I551 stamp acts as a temporary "green card" valid for 1 year. The actual plastic green card will be produced after entry to the United States. Roughly one month after entry is when Jingjing received hers. However, if you're coming across the boarder with an IR1 packet (as we did) the stamp in your passport upon entry is your green card. Don't lose it!
