  1. My school has broken my contract many times and I had done nothing about it. I did nothing because I have seen people try and seen the results; bribed policemen, lies to officials, and friends on their side. So I just waited to see what would happen with our visa. She got it and then we packed up and moved in with her parents for a week to say goodbye to them and then I returned to the school gave them the key to my apartment and said goodbye. No problems because I did not give them time to cause any. As for the airfare I was smart and got all of that after Christmas Break just in case something like this happened. So I did technically break the contract, but they have many times before. Last thing that made up my mind for me was keeping some of my money on my last paycheck, I told them if they did this I would leave, I guess they just didn't believe me.
  2. Chinese friends are saying that they have heard from their friends who have recently gone to America that they were required to go to hospital, sometimes for 10 days. Please tell me this is a nasty rumor. I would hate to spend the first 10 days of our American lives in a hospital just because my wife is Chinese and we are flying from China.
  3. We were both in GZ twice just 2 weeks ago and not a fever yet. Seriously when we were there there were not too many people wearing masks, it seems that since GZ was hit first they have gotten over the worse part already. I also agree with the other 2 never give GZ a chance to make another mistake. Whatever they give take it and run before they lose the papers again.
  4. We will be leaving earlier than planned, we are getting more and more worried that things might get too crazy over here real soon. Anyway we will be leaving May 6 from Shanghai going to Memphis, Tennessee. Our POE will be San Francisco and we will only have about 2 hours to make the connecting flight. If anyone has advice for us on how to make it through faster or just your experiences with San Fran airport they would be appreciated. I have been through there a time or two in the last 3 years but don't remember much about it, and have never had to deal with immigration either. Any comments greatly appreciated.
  5. If you live in China there is no reason to even think about buying tickets in America. We have bought 3 tickets in the last 3 days from Shanghai to Memphis, Tennessee. The price was 4200 yuan total per ticket. I think that is about $526 in America. I have checked everyplace in America I could and the best price I could get there was around $728, and it was a lot worse flight. We are going straight from Shanghai to San Francisco to Memphis. Only one stop the whole way, no layovers in Japan, Atlanta, or New York. If you are in China call CITS or another travel agent and get the tickets from them and you should save some money. If you have to send the money to your sweetie to help him or her do this it might be worth it in the long run. I know the CITS in Changsha can buy roundtrip tickets starting in America as long as it starts in a POE like LA or San Fran.
  6. I think it means one of the moderators moved the post to another forum on the page. When they do this it causes confusion sometimes, because people like you don't know what it means, and some people put their post on a certain forum and do not want it moved. One of those things that you have to live with in a democratic society I guess.
  7. Chinarose and oyster are both correct, we received all medical forms with packet 3 and we were CR-1. The doctors in GZ did tell us however that they needed the appointment letter to do the checkup. Of course if they were wrong in telling us this, do you think it would be the first time we got incorrect information?
  8. That is true most of the time, however when we were there there were quite a few people who forgot some small detail, and had to get it done real fast. Those girls outside helped them get it done in 5 minutes, of course like you said though for a hefty price. Not to mention how much like they are like vultures.
  9. Be back in the US May 15. Not alone this time either.
  10. 1. CR-1, IR-1, K-4, should get visa same day. 2. Everyones interview is at 8:30 a.m. 3. Get there at 7:30 or before and be first in line. 4. American people getting visas for babies at same time as you. 5. American Fiance/Husband is NOT allowed in the interviewe. 6. As of this week consulate still going full force. 7. Guards out front don't know jack. 8. Guangzhou Youth Hostel opposite White Swan Hotel not too bad. 9. Money machine in White Swan hotel will change american money to RMB 10. Subway in GZ is better than the one in Beijing. Except for the stupid coin machines. 11. Cow and Bridge restaurant on Shamian Island is great. 12. White Swan Hotel food way overpriced, don't waste your money. 13. Beijing Road, and Up and Down road a waste of money. Go to the Wholesale place by the train station. 14. Disease is not so bad in GZ, just be careful. 15. Bring clear plastic bags only, if you can't see throug it you can't bring it inside, and that is a lot of paperwork. 16. They stamp most passports to show you were there, but not all for some reason, don't worry you don't have to have it. 17. Nowhere to sit outside the consulate, be prepared to stand a couple hours if you are there with your sweetie. 18. Consulate does things a little bit different on some days for some reasons unknown to the common man. 19. All the souveniers around the island are way overpriced, you will pay tooooo much. 20. If I missed some things, please ask if you have any more questions maybe we can help.
  11. *#%# right that was an insult to the stooges, old grandfather!!!
  12. I know someones number in DOS or CA not sure which one but they can tell when the namecheck has left America and gone back to GZ. I also know someone in GZ you can e-mail personally. If you wanna know pm me and ask for the info. However if you do e-mail or call you should make sure you are nice and only do it about once a week, if you do it more you are just bugging them and that makes them want to forget you even more.
  13. We were told in GZ that you had to have your appointment letter and hospital forms. I believe everyone has to wait until P4 for appointment letter so, unfortuantely you have to wait.
  14. I just showed the Joy Luck Club to my class today and they loved it, of course I have all girls for students. The movie is also a little long at 2 hours 20 minutes.
  15. We were in GZ over the weekend and returned to Changsha with visa in hand, or certificate I should say since we are CR-1. Will post more later, we just got off the train, and are little tired. Some people pay too much attention to rumors on the internet, so they are too worried when they get there. We have a few things to post that will help people do the right thing after they get there hopefully. Bye for now, more later.
  16. I agree GZ is slow about many things, but when we were there yesterday things went fine. I have been told noone has gone home yet, it is not mandatory that they leave it is voluntary. And noone thinks it is serious enough to go I guess. By the way we got our visa yesterday also. Got there at 7:30 and she went straight in, got the visa same day at 4:00 pm. If you think that is too slow then all I can say is too bad.
  17. P3 = Packet 3 sent from Guangzhou to Chinese fiance or wife Contents vary based on typeof visa. P4 = Packet 4 also sent from GZ to Chinese fiance or wife Contents also vary based on type of visa sometimes Recently being delivered by mail ridiculously close to interview date.
  18. We received our P4 today 4 days before the interview. If had not called GZ so many times to find out what happened then we would have had no idea of the interview until 5 minutes ago. Make sure if you are waiting for P4, you call GZ whenever you can to find out things. They seemed to keep a record of when I called so if you call too much they might not like it. I called once a week and got answers. I stopped calling the info line 2 months ago however, I have been direct calling to American people for a while now and it works a lot better. I guess the moral of the story is, do not wait for GZ to do their job, remind them what their job is and it just might get done sometime during this century.
  19. After we finally got P3 and returned it in December we only had to wait 3 1/2 months for the interview. We are returning to GZ this weekend for her interview which will be April 14. So our timeline from P3 to interview is 4 months, and we still haven't received P4 yet. I would make sure to call the right places at least once a week to find out the status of the case, because it would be horrible to miss the interview after such a long wait. We had to wait outside the cosulate to receive the appointment letter so my wife could have her doctors checkup, we might receive PF sometime this year, maybe after we return to America. Who knows??
  20. The only number we have used so far, I believe has been the GUZ number. That number is on the letter that they send out letting you know they have started the process. We have our interview in 2 weeks and the only numbers we expect to use now are dollar sign numbers since they charge so much for all this.
  21. I know you can't do it before the 90 day period, but someone told me if you do it after the 90 day period, there might be a chance you have to start everything over. To me that says that you have to do it during the 90 day window, preferably for me with at least 88 days left so you can account for lost and shredded mail.
  22. Wow I never did that before 2 posts in one.
  23. I have to agree with Eric on this one. How can she have a number if she is not an alien yet. I bet all these girls never thought they would be called that before did they? I even asked the lady in Beijing INS when we were there over a year ago, and she asked me if my wife had ever been to the US, if the answer is no there is no way to be registered as an alien yet.
  24. I don't think she has a A number. It's assigned after you file AOS.. Put "None" in the A number field I have to agree with Eric on this one.
