  1. When Diana and I arrived at the airport they asked us if there were corrections that needed to be made to addresses and such. The guy was nice and we told him about a change or two and everything went great. Just go through the line with her if you can, which you should be able to do and she will feel a lot better.
  2. You better believe it is worth it. If she has a 4 year degree she just has to prove it is factual and then she can probably go straight to a masters degree. However if she has not finished the degree there she might have a few years of school to finish when she gets here since many of the classes might not transfer. But if it is an accredited school in China the degree should go pretty far.
  3. Ok I kind of thought along those lines anyway. I am just glad we don't have to worry about that since we were CR-1.
  4. Just a question about this matter. Could the chinese person travel to China before the form is received since it is just used to return. If she was going tp stay there for a few weeks, could she have you fed ex it to her and then use it when she returns. Or is that too risky? I have no idea about that but have wondered myself.
  5. I hope Dave G. doesn't see that post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I think many of the guys here would agree that Chinese girls are the best. Your Eddy seems to feel the same about you. It is different for everyone so it is hard to explain. It sounds like Eddy loves you because you do not try to hide who you really are, and you are ok with just being yourself. And of course the most important thing, you can accept him for what he is and still love him. I know I always wonder what I have done to be so lucky to be able to call my tai tai my own, but I am afraid I will never know the reason, I just know I am the luckiest guy in the world.
  7. Of course if you are going to visit China again in the next year or so sometimes american dollars can draw a little more interest than it can over here.
  8. Why not bring in a lower amount and then have the rest wired by a bank??
  9. Their caramel corn is different from ours, if they have a sweet tooth they should love caramel corn from here though.
  10. I hope you have better experiences with American popcorn than Diana and I have had. I couldn't stand all that sweet popcorn stuff while I was in China, until finally during the second year there we found the Metro store, with real American popcorn. She didn't like it then and she doesn't like it now either. Must be the fact that she has had her tastebuds desensitized by all that stuff they call popcorn over there.
  11. I have driven in Hunan on several different occasions, of course it helped that in the car were high ranking policemen and government officials each time. When you do business in China one of the perks is being treated like a king at least until the deal is done that is. I did learn from our police friend that if a foreigner is involved in a traffic accident and the police are involved then the foreigner gets to take his car home while the Chinese side has their car impounded until the whole thing is taken care of. I am not sure if it always works this way but according to him this is how it is supposed to work. I would probably have to call him if it ever happened to me to make sure I was safe with my car. On a side note that is why so many fender benders are settled with cash and cigarettes, if the police are involved they usually keep both cars until is figured out, sometimes this involves months, not the days you might be thinking about.
  12. Diana was having trouble getting a passport, because she kept getting the runaround about where to go and what to do. She spent about 3 weeks going to different offices to get info only to be told at almost every turn that she had to do something different first. That was before we contacted a family friend who is a Vice President or something like that in the local PSB and then things started to work out great. The friend made a couple of calls and then met Diana in the front of the main office and within just a couple days passport in hand and everything hunky dory. No bribes or travel needed. Although Eric's idea does sound great and the price sounds just like the prices in Changsha, we almost did that, but when they learned a foreigner was going along the price sky rocketed. Seems like we have a bad reputation of not buying all the junk they want us to along the way from the tourist traps they take us to during the trip. Henceforth no buy no cutback for the tour leader.
  13. Now Mick you should have learned by now about saying things of his nature and opening yourself up for goofy (at the best) retorts from people like Eric and Dave.
  14. Doesn't her paperwork in America allow her to travel almost the same as you? Since she has a visa and greencard (if she has one now) Hong Kong customs should not worry too much about her wanting to stay there should they?
  15. We have had Diana's name changed legally here and it was a real pain in the neck. Court costs for us here in Florida was 200 bucks and then we had to spend 130 bucks to get her name changed on her greencard. She has not received the new greencard yet so her greencard still reads Zhang Yu. When she receives the new greencard she is supposed to get a new drivers license with Diana on it. She needs to get her passport changed at the Chinese embassy to read Zhang Yu aka Diana, or something to that effect. I am not sure about this part but I am told that she always remains essentially the same in China no matter what paperwork is filed here. She still has her ID card from Changsha, and still has her bank acocunt with password and all that stuff that she can use if she wants to. In my opinion there should be no worries about the retirement fund, but please do not trust me on this find out from someone who knows more about this kind of thing.
  16. I have a friend in Beijing married to a Chinese lady and he has a family based visa. Pretty close to a green card here, but he has to get it renewed every 3 or 6 months. Everything is done in Beijing though, no expensive trips to HK every few months.
  17. We have found the maps in garage sales for a dollar a piece. A lot better price than you can get from the governtment for sure.
  18. How does December 6 sound? And Orlando sounds great central to almost everyone down here. Do you want to go to any kind of theme park or just go out to eat like others have done in the past.
  19. Try getting in line at lunch time and tell me McDonalds in not a safety hazard. In Changsha it could be one of the most dangerous places in the city.
  20. So far Eric, Kaige, and PJ have shown interest in meeting on a Saturday before the end of the year and Kaige knows a few more people as do I who might want to show up also. What we need now is to choose a time and place. Anyone with any imput as to what might bea good choice please voice your opinion.
  21. I don't know if I should post this, but I think I actually agree with joe from San Francisco.
  22. Kaige it is good to see you on here again. By the way Diana is still talking about that hot pot your wife made for us when we were there that really hit her chinese food craving spot. Saturday would be great for us whenever there is time for you other people in Tampa, Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, and of course any others. And PJ if you don't come to this first little you will have to really convince us that it is because you broke your leg or lost a finger.
  23. Doesn't seem to be anyone else in Fla who wants to partyl. I guess a party of 4 can be more fun sometimes than a party of 10 - 20. If you wanna get together sometimes let us know we love to have fun
  24. I was thinking some time later in the year when some people might have some time off, but of course anytime we are free we would be happy to meet someone. Esp the infamous poster you get to live with Yuhui
  25. Either nobody from Florida saw this post earlier or nobody down here thinks a day of fun is a good idea. If no responses are received this time the post will be forgotten I guess.
