1. This is not about a plane, communication, or shipping, so how about letting my question get an answer this time before it is moved. We will be travelling back to America with my mother-in-law in a month or so and would like to know if a family member or 2 will throw up any red flags to the officer when we get to the customs line. I have heard stories of people being turned away because the officer thought they might overstay their visit or other things like that. Diana's mom does not speak English, so it would be easier if they were together, but not if it keeps her from entering the country. Any ideas from anyone who has travelled with family members visiting before?????
2. By the way, just curious to know what the Chinese think about cooking with Teflon coated cookware. The fire is too hot that they cook with, the teflon tastes real good in the food when it melts off. On a more serious note you can go to www.eslcafe.com to see some jobs posted and also read their forum to see what some of the smarter, and (well not so smart) people have to say about theaching here. Register for free if you go there so you can read the off topic forum about China.
3. We found them very easy in Miami when we were there. Did you check the few stores on NE163rd or the one on SW40th?
4. Anyone else with an idea about the original question?
5. True but a visa to China takes minutes to get if you are there in person, and only a few days through an agency. And we only plan to be in China for a couple to 3 years. Our main goal is to be somewhere like Tennessee and visit China as often as possible for pleasure and hopefully business. Also her parents liked their visit over here when they were here for half a year and she has to be a citizen to get a greencard for them which is being planned right now.
6. Hello to the few who are still here from 3-4 years ago and the friends I have made in the last year or so also. As the topic suggests Diana and I are going to be in China a couple years raising 2 kids and doing business between America and China between diaper changes and potty training. Diana now has her green card without conditions, and we were wondering if she could apply for her citizenship while we were in China and had a place to receive mail stateside. We should have a re-entry permit before long so we are not worried about keeping the greencard. Any help and opinions would be appreciated.
7. She plans to stay there about 9 months, few before birth and 2 or 3 after. Cravings for real Chinese food are at an all time high already and the first month is not even finished yet. B) 188893 Funny, I was living in China and developed an aversion to Chinese food the first couple months! 188937 Well she is Chinese!
8. Help me understand the question. Does '6 month time limit...' mean her green card expires in 6 months and you want to know if she can leave the US and then return more than 6 months later, after the green card is expired? 188895 Something about not being gone for more than 6 months for the conditions to become a citizen and possibly keeping the greencard. We have now learned that there is a one year time limit that can not be excededed without travel documents for permanent residents. And if she is gone between 6 months and 1 year she can still apply for citizenship. She only has to be here 90 days prior to applying. So 91 days after she gets back we will be going down the road of citizenship.

10. that's what I thought too, but I've been hearing things about 6mths time periods. Do you know anything about that?
11. We just found out baby number 2 will be here in about 9 months and are starting to make some decisions. Diana wants to have this baby in China, but she is worried about the 6 month time limit on her greencard. Does anyone know if the USCIS allows people to stay longer than 6 months for things like babies or not?
12. Diana and I are thinking of returning to China for a few years to do some work there and be with some of her family. We know she can not stay outside of America for more than a year without a Travel Document. The question is though if we are in America for a few weeks a year for say a 6 year time period, are there any conditions we should worry about? The letter of the law seems to state that she can not be gone for more than one year at a time. Is there anything else we should know about though? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
13. Chinese passport and American greencard do not have to have the same name. My wife changed her name to mine when we both came back over here. Her greencard says one thing and her passport another, but she has an official paper from INS stating there was a legal name change done through the court system. Steps we went through. 1. Fill out form and appear in front of judge to change name. $180 - $200 2. Fill our form for INS with copy of court document. $100 and something 3. Show court document to Social Security to get new card Not sure if there was a charge for this or not 4. Change Drivers License $25 or something Or you could just wait until she becomes a citizen and possiply forget the court and INS charges for name change, if she is going to become a citizen that is, and if you don't mind waiting 3 - 5 years.
14. I'll keep you all informed with how we (mostly her) adapt to married life in America. Don't know what you are thinking but good luck in thinking it will be mostly her.
