Congrats James. Question, has their AP came? I'm just curious if the GC came before the AP in your case. Hi Lance, No, they have had the AP for about a month now. LC will be visiting her family soon so I am telling her to take the AP and green card both with her 'just in case'. -James and Loving Candle and Daughter

I was PROMISED two weeks or less by the IO who refused to put I-551 stamps in their passports... I got the CRIS email saying 'card production was ordered on the 13th'. This did not make me feel good since the IO insisted the card was being being printed as we spoke and would go out in the mail the next morning! This was on the 8th of this month. We may yet be glad that we paid for the AP. LC is going to visit her family very soon. -James

In acuality, the translator was almost useless. BUT she showed our commitment to completely following the stated process so she fulfilled her purpose. I think the IO thought she was useless too. But we had a translator and we got credit for that I do believe. Life is so strange sometimes... -James

Good news on the interview! I'm not sure sending your passport if you will not be there is a good idea. It is typically used to prove that YOU ARE THERE to support her and since you won't be that could be a problem. -James

The Santa Ana office, building 34 civic center drive, the old Santa Ana federal building. Second floor room 2301. The IO refused to put I-551 stamps in their passports. He told me that they have changed the system recently and no longer stamp any passports. He said this is since they will receive their green cards in two weeks or less! When I looked incredulous, he said that because of the last entry he made on his computer the cards were NOW PRINTING in Missouri and would be mailed late today or tomorrow morning for sure. This did make me a little uncomfortable since he took the I-94's out of both of their passports... I DO HAVE copies of the I-94's though! AND we have AP (wasted that money) so I think we are covered in all cases. -James

Hi all, We filed our AOS March 8, Loving Candle and her daughter had their interviews this morning, and passed easily. At first I though the IO was going to be trouble (all frowns and stares) but he really loosened up after seeing my step daughter's awards and report cards. He asked her 'is school easier here than in China?'. After she laughed and said 'Very much easier!' he smiled and said 'I was afraid you would say that'. Notes: We hired an interpreter, but it was one-way. She translated each of the IO's questions into Mandarin, but then my girls answered in English. The IO asked a few mundane questions (how old, when were you born, where do you live) then asked to see the evidence that we live together as a family. We gave utility bills and bank statements, showed insurance records. This led up to our daughter's school records which really closed the case. Thanks again to everybody that helped all through our process of becoming a new family together. -James and Loving Candle and Daughter

Jim, we are just covering all the bases. The interview letter says EXPLICITLY that one of two reasons for immediate failure is not bringing an interpreter. This falls into the "dotting the i's and crossing the t's". I am very proud of both of my girls, but I'm not sure their english can be classed as 'fluent' which is a judgement call on the part of the IO. -James

Thanks Jim. I've not heard of any splint. The foot is making good progress. But it still hurts a lot--mostly a painful stinging/burning. It began as an excruciating pain the first of March when I got up in the morning--not a hint of a problem before that. I can walk on it normally now. It just doesn't feel good to do so. Ling gives both my feet a severe going over each night (she calls it a massage) and progrss is happening. Yesterday I put on my stiffest hiking boots and we hiked the whole Silver Falls trail loop (maybe I'll post a link to pictures later today). The foot held up ok and I can still walk this morning. Not to worry about a shot in my heel. I haven't seen a doctor in more than 20 years. Curt, my podiatrist gave me pads that I put under the arch in both shoes. In an emergency I have also used rolled up socks. -James
