When I was in GZ for Loving Candle's interview, McDonalds was a safe haven. The food stinks but the air doesn't. They have security guards that IMMEDIATELY make anybody who lights up put it out. The AC was also great, and the bathrooms very clean. The food still stinks, but I felt obligated to buy some for the other services I was enjoying. -James

Yes, Western Union is very good and secure. She can get the money almost immediately. China Post is a secure location. BE SURE to write her name correctly, I have had one disconnect with my wife's sister. They do know the difference between first and last name, so when you do the WU just tell them the name as First, last even though in China they alwasy do Last, first. Ken is right about doing WU at an agent. They will NOT take anything but cash at an agent. It was one of the thrills of my process to take $5000 CASH to a grocery store so my wife could buy plane tickets and settle expenses to come here! -James

True Dave, very true................. I looked at it from the selfish aspect not the civil rights side of my brain!! I had quite the time in Beijing just getting my e-mail!! I find it difficult to comprehend that shutting down all porn sites within China (or anywhere) is possible. It reminds me of the dike and the Little Dutch Boy. And, I suppose, that it is more publicity than it is reality. If a person really needs it, I am sure they will find it. I'm reminded of the Dilbert strip where he announces that he has devised the perfect porn filter for parental controls. I have Sprint for my cell phones. iTalkFreedom just gives you special access numbers to call China and to allow my wifes family to call both my wife and daughter on their cell phones. It is not technically a free plan, but we were given 200 free iTalkFreedom (cell phone plan) minutes per month when I renewed my iTalkBB plan. -James AOS? Just move to California... B) Actually the wait time is VERY state and area dependent. Most of the Cali cases (Jim Julian's comes to mind) have very similar timelines lately. Just make sure you file as soon as you can and CHECK everything carefully. Pitching a few coins into the local 'wishing pool' won't hurt either. I did! -James

James how do you access the Internet? My problem as far as I know is I can't have DSL without a landline. I have kept my landline. It is used for DSL and backup 911 service. My wireless phones have built in small capacity voicemail. Not the lowest costs I know, but I bought Dish Network for the wonderful China television package, so cable is not an affordable option currently. I may rethink when fiber becomes available in my area. -James

I'm not allowed to use Skype at my day job. We have VERY fast feeds coming into the building (E3) and Skype would grab that and make me a 'Supernode' resulting in me being the local router for most of their traffic. I will probably install Skype at home, some people I just started doing business with are on it all day and most of the evening using it for information interchange. iTalkBB is the best China phone option. I am paying about $22 per month (yearly plan) and we get FREE UNLIMITED China phone service both incoming and outgoing. In addition we get three China phone numbers (2 cell numbers with iTalkFreedom) that my wife's family can use to call us anytime they wish. iTalkBB also has 911 service and can replace your landline. I don't do that just yet, but I am moving in that direction. If iTalkBB's voicemail actually worked (it doesn't) I would switch now. -James

Try to get quotes from other GZ lawyers. Perhaps your wife could assist in this. In my experience with Paget I felt he was way out of line in the price he was asking for routine tasks. People on CFL tend to be positive about him because every now and then he posts here. Unless money is no object, in my opinion you're probably better off with someone else. Jim, we all know you think Peter is expensive. It is conceded that he also really knows his stuff. Maybe you can make a recommendation for an alternative? I.E. Instead of saying he is expensive, why not say who you think is as qualifed and costs less. -James
