  1. All I know is that I voted for Al Gore. Come 2004, I'm voting Demo again. Like popular vote matters anyway, lol.
  2. I will call my fiancee tonight and ask her, she doesn't live in Guangzhou but we were both there together 2 weeks ago. I believe it's called the Chime-Long Night Zoo in Guangzhou. The zoo was a 30 minute bus-ride from downtown. We went with a tour group and we spent about 3 hours at the zoo, and caught everything it had to offer. There's a water-show which included jet-ski stunts and motorcycle stunts. There's a circus show which was like a Las-Vegas extravaganza show, and this was awesome. All the performers were mostly foreigners, and there was a lot of them too. There's a safari-type tram which takes the people through the open safari in the zoo. And there were real animals from around the world, I believe it's a brand new zoo. I never thought there was ever such a concept as a night zoo in the world, until I went to Guangzhou. I believe there are two night zoos in Guangzhou, make sure you go to the one that we went to. Admission price including bus ride: 128 RMB/person. I would even say that this was the best zoo that I've ever went to, beating the zoos here in California. Then again, spending quality time with my fiancee obviously made this zoo much more memorable.
  3. This is off subject, if you and your fiancee had time while in Guangzhou, I would highly recommend you check out the Guangzhou Night Zoo. I was actually impressed with this zoo; it's basically a zoo opened in the evening, and it includes some good Las Vegas-style shows. And it's worth the price. Anyone else been to it?
  4. Good point, and maybe fiancee visas will get priority over business visas now.
  5. Fears about foreign espionage have resurfaced in the Silicon Valley with the case of Chinese businessman Qing Chang Jiang. Jiang is at least the fourth Chinese native indicted since October on charges involving the shipment of equipment or trade secrets to China from the nerve center of the U.S. technology industry. He was to be arraigned Thursday, and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. http://story.news.yahoo.com/fc?cid=34&tmpl...ectual_Property Just the last thing we needed in the background check process.
  6. Chinadave, Only if that checkbox for bringing the newspaper is checked. But in this letter, only the box for bringing the passport is checked. But, you're right this option does exist.
  7. Now even Woody Allen. We can contact him also.
  8. Maybe we can somehow get into contact with Rupert Murdoch about our plight. He's a media mogul, and he can relate somewhat to us, although his journey probably took much less time than ours.
  9. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I don't see why a war in Iraq should affect name checks and the processing of visas. The only loss of resource would be Powell, and even now the bonehead isn't even paying attention to visa affairs. He has underlings to take care of visa affairs, DOS has underlings that are in charge of visa affairs, and that's why there are numerous departmental agencies to handle and provide services. When the U.S. "accidentally" bombed the Chinese Embassy, visa services proceeded as normal. And the fiasco with the U.S. spy plane, visa services proceeded as normal. Maybe from a media exposure perspective, it might affect our plight. I still feel the best media exposure is to protest or form a demonstration, like the current anti-war protestors.
  10. I'm crossing my fingers for everyone today and next week.
  11. I had brain-freeze, I couldn't count before. I was actually counting business days, so the two weeks will be up on the 24th, starting from the 4th. Hopefully today in China, the fiancees will be receiving EMS letters in the mail. One more week before GZ's CNY break.
  12. That is within the 2 weeks from a Jan. 4 submission. They have 6 days left. Hopefully the floodgates will open in the next 6 days.
  13. My fiancee's name has 3 words, but we knowingly wrote down 1 correct code out of the three, and for the other 2 words, we wrote the codes for whatever looked similar. Do you think this will affect our case? If so, do you know of any links on the Internet with this information. I know the CUC message board has info, but it didn't help us.
  14. Some Chinese might not be "sneaking in", but they definitely know of ways to bend the system. My fiancee told me that her barber paid 150,000 RMB for a "service" to obtain a student visa to attend a "beauty school" here in California. She said that the barber will be going to America in March, after applying for the "student visa" last week. The "head" of the "beauty school" is a lady, and she went to Guangzhou last week to accompany the barber for the application. I've heard of many of these Chinese "visa services"; most are scams, but some are "legit" in the sense that they know how to bend the system. In short, this sucks for us who play by the rules...but "it's better to be safe, than sorry"
  15. I was just thinking of any possible additions to this ridiculous delay...one that came to mind was the Chinese telegraphic code. On the P3, it states to write the fiancee's Chinese name in telegraphic code, so I was wondering maybe this "adds" to the delay because some codes might have been entered wrong, left blank, or whatever. The post above said that GZ enters "something" in the system. Could that "something" be the Chinese telegraphic code? I'm thinking that's a way that DOS can perform the name checks, and these codes are the only readable format for both parties, GZ and DOS. I don't know if GZ even uses these codes anymore; I've heard that some couples don't even fill out this portion. I've also heard that GZ doesn't even take these codes into account anymore. As for us, we "tried" to put down the codes, but I think we only got 1 out of the 3 correct. Any other perspectives on the Chinese telegraphic code?
  16. GZ received our P3 on 12/02/02. It's over 1.5 months now, going on 2 months and they still haven't "processed our forms" yet.
  17. I'm in Orange County, and I plan to email Congressmen Cox. After hearing about Mrs. Boxer's apathy, I will try Diane Feinstein. Congressmen Cox has an office, so I plan to go in person and talk to one of his aids.
  18. May I have the fax number as well also? Is anyone in California? I'm in Southern California, and I'm interested in the effectiveness of emailing and faxing my Congressmen and Senators.
  19. Sometimes I think life is better in China. By earning a foreigner's salary in China, you can live very comfortably in China and you don't have to worry about the rat race in the American society. China is also developing and modernizing rapidly, the growth opportunity for China is tremendous in the upcoming years and in the future. And things are much cheaper over there...glasses, food, living, etc...
  20. I remember this $4000K limit as well because my fiancee and I went into a Bank of China to inquire about exchanging money, and they stated that the limit to exchange the RMB to the Dollar is $4000K with a valid USA visa.
