  1. Don't forget your assets - if you have enough in the way of assets to cover the lack of income for those years, that is ok. Home equity, car, stocks, bonds, etc.
  2. It sounds like you guys got a real jerk, but he was able to see what he needed to soon enouigh. Unfortunately, being evaluated in these short little interviews makes the US government a third major partner in our marriages, especially forr those still waiting for their visas. Thanks for the details here, and congratulations.
  3. Sometimes there are predjudices and beliefs which only disappear with the generations. If they are allowed to.
  4. Very sad, and very frustrating, I'm sure, for all concerned. and very heartless on the part of the VO.
  5. How about you get to change your member name to anything you want? Check "Custom Member title" under "Profile info" in your control panel. Plus you get to celebrate!
  6. They will accept licenses from other states in lieu of the tests a new driver would have to take, but you surrender the other license. You probably don't want that to happen with her Chinese license (I think someone reported that that did happen).
  7. Someone also posted a link for a Chinese translation of the California driver's handbook. I think it was Lee who pointed out that the Washington handbook is a page-by-page translation of the English version, which makes it much easier to help out.
  8. We have seen times recently ranging from 5 months to over 2 years.
  9. Canada will periodically retaliate against what they perceive as transgressions against Canadian citizens by the US border agents. This has been going on since LONG before 9-11, and I'm sure it's much worse now.
  10. This was definitely a scam by the parents on the Taishan woman. I hope she got enough money to compensate for her time, trouble, and heartache. The unfortunate victim here (in addition to the woman) is the son. It's a shame that the parents were so misguided as to do what they did. The petition (and petitioner) was approved by the USCIS, and the NVC (Dept. of State in the US) before it was sent to Guangzhou. The only sign of his mental illness (to USCIS) would have been the lack of a job. But this was compensated for (financially) by his parents co-sponsoring her. So I'm sure that his mental condition was not a factor at any point in the processing.
  11. 1. other matters 2. SS and wedding license Welcome to the US and congratulations.
  12. Yes, I've heard from a Chinese friend here that it's best to NOT apply for an extension on the first trip. I'm not sure, however, exactly where this stands between rumor and reality. Perhaps others can chime in with their experience
  13. I think this has to be number 1 on our list of Top Ten reasons to NOT hire a lawyer. I hope it turns out for the better, but if your K1 is also rejected because of the marriage, you may have some serious problems. Again, good luck to you both.
  14. You may have a problem if she's married and you're not. What I mean is if the marriage is legally recorded in China. You are blazing new territory here. God luck and let us know how it goes. I suggest NOT using any pictures from your wedding.

  16. The most likely category to receive a visitor visa is the parent(s) of a green card holder. More like 20 to 50 percent. Have them bring a LOT of evidence of ties to China (lease, any property, pictures, evidence of employment). Tine (Tine&Ella) seems to have the best gathering of what what you need to know.
  17. He may be correct for the first 6 to 8 years of those 11, but for the past two or three years, we've seen K1's take as little as 5 months to a year, while K3's typically take 12 to 18 months to more than 2 years.
  18. Some others have reported that the VO would simply hand them a blue slip at the interview - a request for additional information. Maybe this is the start of a trend to avoid the agony and hardship that a blue slip often represents. No - I don't think we have heard of this before.

  20. I take it you are filing as an American-resident, jointly with a foreign-resident spouse, and applying for a TIN at the same time.
  21. http://bergoiata.org/gif/Feu4.gif So glad for you both !! http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif
