  1. Had my first beef with our daughter Lulu today. You see, I'm a grandfather 4 times over with another grandson on his way next week. This means I've seen 3 children before her go through some pretty tough times growing up. We've all been there right? This young lady is amazing. She is quite the dancer as well as performing arts student. That's all she really had to focus on in China was to get good grades and dance. Her schooling was balanced about dance. Not that way here in the states. She has the added concern of interacting in that dating pool we call high school amongst other issues. She danced on the drill team in high school this past football season and is in 3 dance companies at the local academy close to home. BUSY BUSY BUSY!!! Her grades are good, 4 A's and 3 B's but she received in unsatisfactory mark for citizenship in History. I asked her what this was about and she dodged the issue saying she was late for dance class and would explain later... WRONG ANSWER!!! I asked her to explain now or dance class would be a foregone memory for her. She said it was because of talking in class. I asked her how she should fix it and then I received the tradtional shoulder shrug. I then told her the answer was for her to be quiet in class. Then, I explained the futute implications if this concern arises again and I got that look! Some of you know... "THE LOOK" Her mother just lets it go and shows no interest in guiding her daughter. I'm a Dad first and a friend second, (if at all!) Lulu is a bit confused by this I think. She has been the one who has benefitted the most from my teachings and discussions and now.... Dad is putting his foot down? How dare he do such a thing? Her real father hasn't been in the picture for a while and I don't think Mom was around much after their divorce as she worked all the time. Goes to show you that cultures are not that different in some cases. Either that or she has Americanized pretty dang quick.
  2. I read a article on MSNBC that the AOS timeline may have been affected by the recent fee increase and the mad rush to get filed by the deadline. This may have had some effect on delays!
  3. To each their own I guess. I think it's great that my wife calls me Lao Gong. Her friends also refer to me as "Lucy's Lao Gong" and that is not meant as disrespect. I'm not old... not a super stud and certainly don't use male enhancement medicine so I guess I'll just butt out!
  4. See, Lee stepped up and hit a long drive to deep center!!!
  5. I just read Mike and Rong suggestion post and sounds good to me. Run it by a mod first is my suggestion!
  6. Thats a great idea ... but unfotunatly i'm not sure i'm very good at " a properly worded letter " i can only say what i know and ask what i can do. It may seem daunting but there are people on candle, like the MODS themselves, who can advise. I've seen Carl (warpedbored) post on GUZ SPEAKS for one of Candles members before. I'm sure a MOD would be glad to help! Just word it(the post to GUZ SPEAKS) as needed. You need to know how to contact the consulate because of this and you have not received that. They (GUZ) won't answer case specific questions but should be able to help in this situation because it will be worded as a general question. Good Luck
  7. How about a properly worded post to GUZ SPEAKS? That may produce some answers.
  8. This is the phone number to Angela... AKA ROMANTIC on Candle... 020-35587558 or 13729868644. I saw she last posted in August of this year. We stayed in her apartment in October of 2005 and our room looked down on the line forming in front of the consulate. Very clean and neat with many price variations. Angela speaks fluent english and has experience in the immigration process. I only hope she is still in Guangzhou! We payed 200 rmb for a 2 bedroom fully functional apartment and she even had someone pick us up at the airport for a little bit more!
  9. If I may comment to this situation? Our overcome two years ago was very similar. GUZ wanted more proof that I was who I was and that my ex and I were not together. We officially divorced December 16th of 2004 and I met my current wife Lucy in June of 2004. I feel GUZ saw my marriage ending AFTER I met Lucy even though I was legally separated since March of 2002. The concern we feel was the reason for our blue slip is that my fiance' was attempting to immigrate to the USA to join another person through my help. GUZ asked for several documents establishing relationship, separate residences of both our ex spouses and proof that I was the person the documents stated. We just gave them exactly what the blue slip asked for... and then some. This situation sounds like GUZ is suspicious of fraud and wants to ensure it is not. I am confident you will overcome this concern. Going to GUZ, in my opinion, is the right move! ACH was informative for me and I think it alerted officials of my presense but the way we prepared the overcome documents is the reason we succeeded. I wish you and your fiance' the best of luck! P.S. Here is my thread of that time frame... I hope that may help some http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...c=12964&hl=
  10. I used the case status for 'Ball Park' estimates and it was pretty close when the kids were in the GC phase. The info was within a week or two! Maybe the USCIS is getting their SHIT together because an election year is coming up and somebody maybe out of work soon!
  11. We went to the local high school game here in town last week. My wife was very involved in the game all night. It was the cross town rival against the school my daughter dances for. Tyler Lee 35- John Tyler 17. Did you hear that a local East Texas boy (Adrian Peterson, Palestine-Texas High) had a record 296 yards rushing for the Minnesota Vikings today? Texas High School Football has been the most fun I've had in years!
  12. I asked our immigration official about the usage of lawyers and the immigration process and this person told me that persons that use lawyers make the immigration official feel they have something to hide.
  13. thank you Pete, i was wondering how anyone could mention chinese pop music and not have Faye Wong in the sentence, in my opinion shes top talent over there. I agree! I have a double CD set in my 6 disk changer for my car just in case my wife gets tired of my headbangin'. She just says "Faye Wong, Faye Wong" and I push the button for 1200 watts of music that I have no clue of what she's singing about.
  14. I only flew this airline domestic in China. Very short flights and uneventful. My friends that have flown CS from LA to China have raved about this airline. Some U.S. airlines partner with China Southern and they operate the planes that travel. Just like I book with Delta and fly on a Korean Air plane.
  15. My wife has called me Lao Gong even before we were married. I hear her refer me to her Chinese speaking friends as Lao Gong. My wife speaks Cantonese primarily and I wonder if this is why? My wife tells me that her love is strong from the beginning and that's why Lao Gong is my title. My son confirmed the history of the meaning to me. The part of prostitutes calling their clients Lao Gong made him laugh. He said that happened to make these men feel important because they could not find love... Wow... talk about different ends of a spectrum!
  16. My wife went crazy waiting for EAD and AOS. She's a workaholic and is constantly looking for more ways to make money. She's a server for an American and a Chinese Buffet in town. She's very good at her job and is considered the number 1 tip earner at both places. Her main goal when coming here was to make money while she was still young to do so then we'd retire in China at a young age to enjoy our saved money longer than we could in the USA. Not a bad plan if we don't have any major HICCUPS. We're about 10 years away if my math is correct.
  17. Being an American can mean so many things. It's a blend of all races and cultures from around this world of ours. My daughter, Lulu, considers herself Chinese-American even though she's only lived her less than two short years. My son, Jack, is very devoted to an English speaking Southern Baptist Church. Prior to coming here (USA) he had no religious faith to speak of. He listens to Christian music in his car and plays keyboards in the church band. My wife is a little different but is warming up to the idea of America. Her agenda in coming here has completely changed and that's a good thing in my eyes. Change will always happen and I feel that is what's so great about being American... we're always changing!
  18. We are going to see it Sunday in Dallas... For those interested... Angelika Film Center & Cafe - Dallas 5321 East Mockingbird Lane Dallas, TX 75206 (214)841-4700
  19. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Good write up as well. I am very happy for you both... Come home safely!
  20. QQ has not been a problem for this household. Good Antivirus and spyware programs have kept any undesirables at bay. The other aspect is not going to anything to look for trouble and trouble usually stays away. Myspace.com was a nightmare when my American kids were still at home when I was single. I asked Jack and Lulu to not visit myspace.com and they don't. Jack even blocks myspace on his new homebuilt PC as he realizes how bad myspace can be if used inappropriately.
  21. PPS stream may have it. PPS had Fantastic 4 even before the theatres did!
