  1. Jack and Lulu were treated like Rock Stars in their school. Not as much in California because of the higher Asian influence but here in East Texas, they are somewhat of a difference and people are attracted to them. Being great kids helps as well! ESL is a major plus. Having school records to determine what credits she will carry forward and what classes she will need to finish. Kids that age are pretty impressionable but resilient more than not. I wouldn't be too concerned.
  2. As far as the children part, my wife's agenda was for her children to come to the United States for a chance at education and career success. They are off to a good start. My wife has recently been offered a good opportunity in business back in China. She has asked me to look after Jack and Lulu during her absense. No problem, they don't call me "Dad" for nothing ya know. Good post here Dennis as it hits the mark pretty closely!
  3. Ron, Just a suggestion and may not help but worth a try. Look in the yellow pages and find a Chinese Church. Call colleges and find a Chinese speaking student as they could always use a few extra bucks. This happened to us in San Bernardino as well but I told him we were moving to Texas. He advised us to postpone after he tried to communicate with my wife and learned that the Texas move would be a concern having a greencard hanging in the mail. Probably the same SOB I.O. Just be diligent my friend. Good things will happen!
  4. Good luck there buddy. I'm sure all will be well!
  5. One day, you'll look back at all this and say... PIECE OF CAKE Good luck in the coming events!
  6. The only benefit my wife wants from citizenship is a USA passport. She's not interested in the other stuff.
  7. I dont think you missed it, I believe it was not specified. My bad... she's from Mexico originally. Was brought here when she was 2 months old. So I'm told (She asked her manager that if she brought another SSN in, can she still work?) What tangled webs we weave huh?
  8. I was told by a lawyer friend of mine today that this woman has a long road to travel in acquiring legal status. I just feel a bit sympathtic towards her because of the lies her parents have continued to spin. I don't think she knew the real truth because she's lived this way since birth basically. Living and working here, going to school and trying to better yourself weighs in somehow. Just think of all the illegals that come across the border for work and then take the money back to Mexico. That, in my opinion, is the difference. My position is the same however, the law is the law and it pertains to everyone. My company gives everyone in this position 30 days to fix which is more than fair.
  9. This happened yesterday at one of my units. A female employee was flagged by Corporate as having a Social Security number as unassigned or stolen. Come to find out that this person came here illegally 24 years ago when she was 2 months old. She's had a baby, went to public schools and does just about everything in everyday life that a U. S. citizen can do. Not married, has no drivers license and has never filed taxes. I told her she has 30 days to comply with the Corporate request to provide qualifying information or she will be terminated. This girl has lived here all her life mostly. Her parents provided her with all the documents to get by. (forged or whatever) She has an American born child. I advised her to contact USCIS but she's afraid to uncover that stone. What should she do in your opinion?
  10. I sent in the civil surgeons "sealed" envelope with the AOS application. Don't they already have it? I don't have any "sealed" envelope. Someone ... anyone? Our Doctor(s) gave us a sealed envelop to turn in each time as well as a copy of the documents to keep. (edit: from the USCIS site) 8. Fianc¨¦(e)s. If you are a K-1 fianc¨¦(e) or K-2 dependent who had a medical examination within the past year as required for the nonimmigrant fianc¨¦(e) visa, you only need to submit a vaccination supplement, not the entire medical report. You may include the vaccination supplement with your adjustment of status application.
  11. I have a friend in North Carolina that is married to a lady that knew my wife in Nanning. They filed 100 days prior and the USCIS sent his package back to him with a note to say file WITHIN the 90 day period. After he received the package, he re-mailed it because it was within the 90 day period. Just goes to show ya, huh?
  12. Actually, being treated like a criminal ourselves is more like it.
  13. For starters Ron, don't forget the wifey... that's very important! Your interview letter should have listed what to bring. Our interview(s) were pretty informal and there was a document that we needed for the children that we didn't have with us that the officer instructed us to mail within 30 days. I'm sure you are ready. Oh yeah... don't forget to bring a non-relative translator to help your wife... that will end an interview dang quick... especially in San Bernardino where all the translators in that building are bi-lingual in spanish and english. No chinese speaking persons there! Good luck to you both... I'm sure all is good
  14. My wife just does this to get a rise outta me. She wants me to know she's the boss (even if she isn't, I let her think she is)
  15. I call her Lucy. Her Chinese friends call her Lucy as well. Her Chinese name is Gu Aiqun (GU-EYE-CHIN) and she's looking beautiful as ever sitting over there wrapping XMAS presents.
  16. We had brought back dried fruits and such. No problems. I feel it's necessary to be forthright, especially after watching that video on the airplane where the bugs eat up the town that little dog lived in after he brought contraband in that was infested!
  17. This is what I did in 2006 for 2005 tax year. It may not be relevent to your situation Dave. We were married December 19th, 2005 as she arrived November 7th, 2005 with her children as well. I was able to file married/jointly and use the kids as deductions as long as I had Tax I.D. numbers for them and my wife had a social security number. She had her social security number 2 weeks after arriving and the kids received the Tax I.D. not long after. I was even allowed to use child credit for the daughter which gave me an additional break on my taxes. I did not itemize that year as I did not have enough in deductions. I was not a property owner at that time either. I had my taxes reviewed by a trained professional but prepared them myself using a software program. Both did not red flag my preparation. Maybe the tax laws have changed. I recommend seeking a professional opinion-advice. Don't think you need to wait or extend anything but I may be incorrect in this. My personal experience is all I have to offer. Good Luck,
  18. You musta been thinking pink all the way! Congratulations!
  19. The Chicago lockbox address is where I sent AOS paperwork. We were K-1 however and I never filled out a I-130 the best I remember. The price increase last July has the USCIS very busy due to the rash of submissions they received to beat the deadline. Maybe that is why the slow down Hang in there. I'm sure it will be ok!
  20. I was sending my wife emails written in Chinese Character. This was a mistake because the GUZ wanted to know who was translating my emails to her. RED FLAG!
  21. It is a great feeling isn't it? Congrats!!!
  22. To everyone that has posted so far is everyone I have much respect for. I appreciate reading your responses and it seems I'm not alone in my feelings towards parenting. My wife does have a relaxed approach to parenting unless it directly affects her. My ex was the same way so I don't think it's as much cultural for me because I'm used to that attitude. My birth children started to believe in my ways of being a dad. They could see that I only set guidelines to benefit them as a whole. Once they got that concept, everything was great. Lulu will get it. She's taken to adjustment very well to this point. I just think she's in a bit over her head. (BTW, for those Californians reading this, Lucy and I will be arriving this Sunday and staying in Newport with Phil and Yun. My son's better half is expecting any day now and I haven't missed a birth of a child or grandchild yet)
