  1. I think it was well articulated and balanced with common sense.
  2. It is an somewhat interesting article but I am not sure that Confucius should be confused with Shengren. First off: Confucius was 'this-wordly' not 'other-worldly' the way Buddhism and Daoism are. He was a humanist through and through and was a hallmark of rites and customs and education. He looked back to the Zhou Dynasty and the Sage-Kings where rule and society was said to be a model. For the Daoist, the Sage-Kings were considered a period of decline as they represented the lost of 'living naturally' and the institutionalizing of life. The closest Confucius came to being 'spiritual' was that he believed strongly in ancestor worship and once made a comment about not offending 'shen' (spirits). He himself was never worshipped or immortalized the way that Lao Zi and Buddha were. This quote is quite telling: One may note that the author [maybe unknowingly] admit that Sheng does not appear in any of Confucius's works ! LOL In fact, Confucius does use the word in his writings but he did not apply that to himself as much as he applied the word "Jun Zi" (the perfect virtuous man). Virtue/ethics was his rule... not lofty wisdom and deep understanding into realms beyond the senses as often said of the Sheng Ren (sages). From Confucius: "Superior Man" = Jun Zi. "Sage" = Sheng Ren "A high officer asked Zi Gong, saying, "May we not say that your Master is a sage? How various is his ability!" Zi Gong said, "Certainly Heaven has endowed him unlimitedly. He is about a sage. And, moreover, his ability is various." The Master heard of the conversation and said, "Does the high officer know me? When I was young, my condition was low, and therefore I acquired my ability in many things, but they were mean matters. Must the superior man have such variety of ability? He does not need variety of ability." -- Tr. Legge Confucius said, "There are three things of which the superior man stands in awe. He stands in awe of the ordinances of Heaven. He stands in awe of great men. He stands in awe of the words of sages. The mean man does not know the ordinances of Heaven, and consequently does not stand in awe of them. He is disrespectful to great men. He makes sport of the words of sages." -- Tr. Legge
  3. Thanks Carl for the experience. Dan, thanks for the married clause and priority class change. I've got enough info. Thanks.
  4. Ok... so don't believe the charts online... We submitted our extension in late Sept and just received it back as approved extension. So three months.
  5. I don't disagree as I am not arguing against "paper" but an understanding of what that paper means (or doesn't mean) to the VO. Many believe 10,000 pages is supposed to prove something to a VO... so the thinking starts off on the wrong foot. I would encourage USCs to understand what the VO is asking for and why...
  6. I agree as that is simply a CR-2 filing which implies they married (meaning, you cannot meaningfully file for a K2 as that is derivative status).
  7. Getting the no-marriage paper in the US is more involved and I'll let others let you know what to do next with it but there is no translation needed. Instead, you can get it in China at the US Consulate and it will be drafted in English. So again, no translation needed, if my memory serves me right. I think it cost about $50 though.
  8. I am pretty sure of the answer but again want to make sure I pass along the correct info to someone else. Once the son is over 21, the USC husband cannot file for them but rather the Chinese national mom must. Can they do this as a 'conditional resident' or do they need to be a 'permanent resident'? And I know that if the chinese national files it is probably 7-8 years (?) and if they become a USC that filing would shorten to the time for USC, maybe 4-5 years?
  9. This is what I suspected but wanted to hear from experience. My wife is talking to someone who needs to do this and I'll pass along the method. Thanks.
  10. This has come up in the past and I am asking for recent examples if they exist.... otherwise I am welcoming other experiences... EXACTLY: What paper did you have from a child's father to let them go through the immigration process? Meaing: A mom has a child (regardless of K1 or CR1); and the father needs to provide something outside of the divorce documents. Share the actual document provided to provide this.
  11. Your chat history does not matter to GUZ and they will likely not ask for it at all. Look at the history of interview questions and requests: Pictures. Relationship questions, etc. You need to focus on the evidence which matters to GUZ... not to your thinking alone. Think like a VO: What are they going to ask her for?
  12. I feel you are a book and being played by two book ends... and nobody has even bothered to open the covers to see what is within. You are better off stopping all of this online nonsense and saving yourself a lot of grief. Your a typical american whose heart is easily played... and chinese play it like a flute... When it is right, you don't have many questions or doubts... your leaving me just shaking my head... JMO. (Just My Opinion).
  13. Have her full chinese name and birthdate as well. Sometimes they want to note such things even though this is really only a paper for you. The time it takes them to do this is quite short; the majority of the wait is them serving all the needs that day. That being said, I would pick an appointment day as early as possible, if possible. If I remember: You'll go to the window and be asked what you want, etc... then pay... then they will prepare it (among other requests they have) and then call you to the window to get it.
  14. You can do it online. They recommend you do it a few months prior to the expiration. You'll get a "P1" showing receipt. As long as you file prior to the expiration they can stay until you hear some word OR your requested date comes. If they suddenly denied then the person has about 2 weeks to leave... but you've got time to worry about any word... but here: "no news is good news" ! The processing time shows that they are working on May right now... so they are six months behind... if one believes their charts
  15. yes... but there is no roadblock to giving his wife a feeling that he is wiling to spend, even wasted time and money, on her. My point was to forget USCIS.... you don't wake up to them every day... look at your wife and what is it you are willing to do? This is beyond politics at this point and it is very personal. It is one of the rare times I would call on the USC to simply do what is necessary to make their wife feel they are secure in every possible way.
  16. Ok Randy... you've answered me "no" and then "yes". All we want to do is give some clear guidance, if any... I said one can get this at the US Consulate and I got two answers from you. My answer stands: Get a certified copy from the consulate, as Beachy confirmed he did, like me. If the changes will not accept this then so be it. One can easily adjust their taxes in the next year. I don't want to cause more angst then necessary.
  17. ok... we have gone around this circle of certification vs notarization... if you are asking for a copy of something (i.e. passport), then it is a certified copy... it is not a notarization. Am I still missing something?
  18. I am not sure I understand the reason behind you cannot DCF... you could withdraw the petition and file DCF and who is going to stop you? I only think it will go into limbo again, so maybe this is just their way of saying, "Don't waste your time and money"... But here is what I would do if I were you; Waste some time and money on her... file the visitor visa. Show her that even though it is beyond hope, you feel she is that important to try it. You'll find renewed comfort and closeness Be of strong heart and look on her as the morning sunrise. Your living life together now and not everyone can say that.
  19. She (or you if you were in china) can get this from the US Consulate. It costs $50... here is my story: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?/topic/42282-itin/
  20. Just had some last night. I make sure to go there (Waitan in Yulin) once a week to help keep them in business - they're about a block away. Nobody else that I've seen carries anything more than the usual Liquan, Tsingdao, and Snow. Snow [flower] beer is actually....well if the name is not give away as a punch line already... from the north.. Dongbei (northeast)... From Liaoning but with breweries now all over china. I have drank enough of it to know it is not the flower of chinese beers... I can think of a few others I might prefer while in china but when others are buying and silly with 'ganbei', I rarely refuse the alcohol in front of me. If we start talking about the wine in china.... I'll probably gag... in a fruitable way
  21. That's even more important in the newer homes with weatherstripping - the exhaust vents need an opening somewhere for air to come in. Our kitchen exhaust vent came with a warning that the carbon monoxide may be re-circulated if it can't draw in enough air from outside. You can feel the breeze coming in through a bathroom window when it's in use. But it's not clear what you think I'd be using the vacuum cleaner for . . . You said your wife won't let you buy one and I said forget it... So the question is actually to you: Why should she buy you one
  22. well... how to answer... Yes.. all this time he was moderating us
  23. Forget the vacuum cleaners... just open the windows to get fresh air in... breath in; breath out... not just a bodily function
  24. Nebulous is a great way to put it as it comes from the Latin for 'cloud'... on cloud 9, we may say... but I do think this post seeks more specific understanding in terms of the cross cultural relationships we are a part of. In my assessment, here is the mind bending assessment: What I think is 'love' is not what another thinks is 'love'... and while this may not deviate much within my own culture it may differ distinctly around the world but still possess some commonality which makes me understand there is 'love' in the end. As Dennis said it best: "They fall in love too" BINGO !!! But the means, process, and manner in which it happens may come in many ways... ergo, we have "Variation in life". Variation in life is the most fundamental principle of chinese thinking called DAO: The TEN THOUSAND (LIFE) arises and cycles like the seasons. This simple statement is at the core of their being and keeps them close to nature's way. Never underestimate this idea !!! Now! TO get to a central issue we see here and sometimes accused of on CFL: That there is not love but only deception in the relationship to get a greencard... IMO, this is an often unfair latter assessment but for some it is true. Deep hurt will be expressed with all sorts of claims. And original motives of the chinese national is expressed with all sorts of reasons. If we want to be humanists, we will seek to understand both sides but if we are part of the relationship then we are only going to judge it by the hurt we feel. Here is the facts and reasons as I see it over 8 years of studying chinese culture: 1. Some just fall in love... I hope you find it but it is not so common 2. Some find each other and it works out in the long run... think: Pragmatism and thank the gods 3. Some find it does not work out and it was not meant to be: Think, they took a change (any guy will do). And you took a change... move on. 4. Some are being played and this is just a game... more than you think but there are some chinese who might be sway to stay in it. 5. Some are being played and you are played from beginning to end... maybe being paid money (so you know it) and maybe you paid the time (later you realize it)... In both cases, you can only move on... Back to love... chinese style... Doing it instead of talking about it... See what she is doing and don't challenge her inability to express it. SPOILER ALERT: She is looking to see how well you DO IT and puts little stock in how you express it... THIS IS THE GAME CHANGER...
  25. Just those items which have a "x". Agree with Carl: Transcripts are good. You can request them for free online but they need to use the address on file (probably based on the last filing). The key item to realize is what your ordering. If I recall, you can request the tax return OR the W-2. If you want both then you do them separately, as well as each year separately. http://www.irs.gov/I...er-a-Transcript
