  1. Yes - this is the difference between one from the states, and one from a U.S. consulate in China - the stamp affixed to the back with a holographic seal. It's not a translation, but it tells what the document is, in Chinese. And, DO NOT, under penalty of law, remove the staple. from personal experience I can tell you........ FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T REMOVE THE STAPLE!!!!
  2. If you're six feet tall or larger then you'll just need to prop your head up. I still think it's more comfortable than the seats. I was able to sleep with no problem. The fact that I could reach the foot supports without touching the bunks kinda endeared me to the folk in the lower bunks. BTW, I was married in the marriage office in Wuhan this past August. I thought the people working there were very nice. They even offered us congratulations in English as well as Chinese when they presented us with our red book.
  3. Considering the driving skill I've seen demonstrated during my visits to China, I applaud their bravery. I think we should start a betting pool on whether they'll be hit trying to enter or leave their home against whether they'll be hit while their in their home.
  4. I'd like to hear the unfiltered thoughts, both before and after, of the first Chinese pilot to take off and land on their carrier. Just because you know other nations have done it before couldn't have made an already very difficult task any easier. Congratulations PRC Navy. Now you can protect all those new islands on the passport maps and the new prefecture city.
  5. I voted for the cherry finish but I have to admit that it is looking beautiful. You're doing a great job and the whole thing is looking awesome.
  6. You are so right about this. I live in Texas and have seen this time and time again. What really bothers me is watching rallies of illegals conducted using the Spanish language, all waving Mexican flags and demanding their "US rights and benefits". I really wish they would wave the American flag. I also wish they would do things the legal way like everyone here is doing.
  7. I'm finally ready to send in our I-130 packet. We haven't had much time together since our marriage. I was able to spend 3 weeks in China but we've been apart since the first week in September. I know that it's good to show an ongoing relationship through such things as chat and skype logs. How much though should I include? Emails run to 100 pages. QQ chat logs total 1300 pages. Since we've started using skype, the chat portion is currently 76 pages? Time stamps show that this amounts to over 2 hours a day for the past 10 months. The page count comes from shrinking everything down to the smallest font size possible. Do I include the entire thing or just take examples from different days for the past months? We've also got statements from friends and family in China that we are indeed married. Who do we need to have the translations into English done by? My stepson could translate them but I'm sure that they have to be "official" in some fashion. Can a translation company do them or is there some government office that does this?
  8. Thanks for sharing the results. It would be interesting to know how the results compare with the pre-test thoughts concerning the answers.
  9. hey guys! watch what you're saying here. I still need to sell those "Don't Blame Me. I'm not in the Electoral College" tee shirts.
  10. Amazing pictures. Thanks for sharing them.
  11. In August, the fee was $50. As Dan said, you will need to get an appointment. Don't forget to take a copy of your appointment letter with you. That's what the gate guards are going to want to let you into the embassy grounds.
  12. I'm sorry. I just find it funny that someone has millions of dollars to invest and comes to an online forum for advice. I'm just hoping to scrape together a few hundred dollars to send to my Qīzi.
  13. I hadn't really considered that the Chinese Navy would be measuring itself to the US Navy. The Soviet Union was able to project naval power into a region but I don't believe that even at the height of their naval build-up that they were a serious match as a surface navy to the US. Their submarine fleet was another story. That being said, I think the Chinese is well on the way to having a serious navy and able to project itself in the region. Considering it takes at least 5 years to build a cruiser and a carrier task force has anywhere from 5 to 20 cruisers to provide missile protection and secondary offensive power; Chinese shipyards are going to be very busy to provide the ships necessary. This doesn't even take into account all of the high-tech electronics and missiles necessary. Of course, you can't man these types of ships with high school drop outs either. There are a lot of specialized skills needed as well. All of these things are needed even if the US Navy is taken out of consideration. Japan, Iran, India..... the list goes on, all have land and air resources which can launch ship killing missiles. Great Britain learned that lesson from Argentina during the Falkland Island war.
  14. You don't think coast guard cutters and zodiac boats would make an effective defensive screen? You're correct. The Chinese Navy has anti-submarine destroyers that are probably adequate but it will probably be in the 15-20 year range before they have enough cruisers with good anti-missile capability. For now, they can project image but projecting power is still in the future.
  15. Actually, the aircraft carrier which China just commissioned was an already built Russian hull which China bought and finished building. If I'm not mistaken, the plans for the Russian aircraft which normally fly off this type of carrier were also included in the sale. Of course, there is a big difference from having a plane which can take off and land on a carrier and being able to do it.
