  1. Good to know there is progress. Good luck!
  2. Yes that's a lot but we often forget that what we will go through is part of the equation. Make your own list next to it. You both and the children have a lot of change. It wont be easy but for you we will always be here to listen. I'm glad we have this thread going for open discussion. Too many previous threads glossed over the difficulties. But ithere will be hard times and good times, so share both. We all need it.
  3. If you mean that you got the NVC approval notice on Feb 28 then the P-3 should be around the end of this month or early next to be in line with most of us now.
  4. Shanghai hotel rates have skyrocketed since three years ago when I visited.
  5. Jim am I mistaken or are your blobs jumping a little higher lately
  6. The DOS call number to speak to a person is 202-663-1225. You can call once in awhile to check the progress. Maybe they will give you information. You can also go to the email for GUZ and ask them but you will probably only get canned responses. http://www.usembassy-china.org.cn/guangzho...u/iv/email.html As anything you do that shows interest in the case will help their decision making, I'd check with both in about 2 months and then once a month each until the interview is scheduled. They do put the emails in your file. Now sit back and face anxiety head on
  7. This sounds great. A visa should be coming!
  8. Congratulations! So the question everyone is asking, will we see both of you at the BBQ?
  9. Congratulations. Now start on more important things. A life together no more conjugal visits the real thing
  10. From what I see and hear I think you hit the nail on the head Jason.
  11. Right on Frank !!!!!!!! I see so many friends in this situation like you describe. Husbands sometimes get very upset and sometimes it is out right hostility. Here in L.A. where you can live a Chinese lifestyle easily it is sometimes hard to make the transition as the wife can retreat into Chinese society before seeing another way may be viable. In this, living in an area of few Chinese can make transition easier. Other ways such as not having anything familiar make it difficult. Either way it is not easy for them or us. I'm not there yet but we talk about these problems. Honestly we don't know how either of us will react but we agree to try hard.
  12. Yes. Very critical information indeed. Lee great job on preparing the reponse regarding Communist party membership. Perhaps your informative and well organized post could be copied to FAQ. Anyone remember Senator McCarthy and the witchhunts? "Paul Robeson was not only close to the party, but particularly to its senior black leaders such as William Patterson and Ben Davis, Jr. When the government arrested, tried and sentenced many of these communists under the Smith Act, Robeson was on hand to defend them in the public arena...... He once saifd "the Communists use the Negro and we only wish more people would want to use us this way." More bold than Paul Robeson was his wife Eslanda who moved rapidly towards the Left and left an indelible impression on the McCarthyites. Brought in front of McCarthy¡¯s House UnAmerican Activities commission in 1949, she did not flinch. "I don¡¯t know anybody that is dedicated to overthrowing the government by force and violence," she said, "the only force and violence I know is what I have experienced and seen in this country, and it has not been by communists." Paul Robeson wrote after enduring several hearings: "The truth is: I am not and never have been involved in any international conspiracy or any other kind, and I don't know anyone who is. It should be plain to everybody that if the government officials had a shred of evidence to back up that charge, you can bet your last dollar that they would have tried their best to put me under their jail." Such standing up to the Commitee on Un-American Affairs has gained greater protection for American citizen's to express themselves. Robeson had his passport revoked. However our SOs are not American citizens at the interview and face tests of acceptability.
  13. Are you saying I might have to wear shoes on the weekend? Trigg if you have to spruce up maybe they'll have kid skin thongs in the Days Inn gift shop.
  14. So what does that mean to those of us taking MAX from the airport to downtown?
  15. Both disposable and nondisposable needles are in use. Needles are sanitized In the U.S. treatment sessions vary greatly in cost from $30 to $80 depending on location and often ethnicity of the acupuncturists. In Los Angeles Korea town is the cheapist area because of over competition. Acupuncturists usually also do herbal remedies and moxibustion as well as cupping. For pain and immobility cupping has helped me greatly when combined with acupressure massage. For colds and flu guasha (scraping is great. I have reduced fevers quickly with it. Child ailments are best cured with Xiao Er Tuina if you can find it.
  16. So you are in Korea! I wasn't sure if you had left yet. So hard to know which day people mean dealing with both sides of the date line. Get a massage if it is open, before the therapists come in you can pay for a shower. The Korean restaurant is good and the pumpkin taffy is a fun snack. Best Wishes
  17. Happy Birthday Maiya's Mama!!! 30?? Do we allow membership to the over 30 crowd?
  18. As Paul points out the USCIS forms site is very useful. http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/ I have used it for all my forms. Not all can be filled out on line but many can. When you print it is set to generate the number you need to submit You can also print out any copies of your completed form you wish for file. Sign each form generated and it is even better than making copies or carbons of a signed form because all are orginals and alteration is not an issue.
  19. Thanks for sharing this especially the update.
  20. A little footnote: California licensing for Notaries lists the U.S. Passport as a document that can not be notarized. It says nothing about certified so one notary said no and another certified it. It can be certified by DOS. I sent it in my application as proof of U.S. Citizenship and trips to China along with my birth certificate.
  21. Jews statisticly are not gamblers but they also give the income to the wife to manage the household. However because Chinese love gambling there is a demand at casinos for English/Chinese speakers. Also it seems the Asian woman is regarded as attractive but not flighty which is a desirable image at the tables. Stereotypes do influence hiring at the gambling places. Next time check to see if there are more young blondes serving cocktails or dealing.
  22. There are some that think the Chinese may be the lost tribe of Israel. We call this thinking a Yiddishe Kup
  23. Well after paying for the air ticket which had 2 penalties (extra for return sunday and extra for nonstop) This with the BBQ would really make the trip a weekend to brag about. So I'm in if others are.
  24. Mark! how could you leave the Real Cheese State for the Cheese State??? And before the August meetup??!!!
