About reporting illegal immigrants......
Dan R replied to m-coon's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
not illegal because she is here on K-1?????? Well according to the current laws of California my wife in AOS is illegal. She can not renew her California ID (expired on same day as I-94) until her PR is issued. She is often denied use of the credit card because of no valid ID. We can not go to San Diego because friends (K-1) have been arrested and later released as illegals when crossing the border check between San Diego and L.A.. She might or might not be allowed to board a plane depending on the guard's mood and/or training. We have a broken system. As for your workers, they are not indentured servants but if a company is targeting your sponsored workers to take them from you and you have proof, report the company to USCIS. -
It looks like there are some bugs in the system. For some reason I can't receive calls from cell phones. I have emailed customer support three days ago but no answer. My first problem was answered and corrected within 8 hours. I also have waited on the phone for 20 minutes for tech support but haven't gotten through. I suspect this is probably all do to too rapid expansion. I hope this gets resolved quickly as it makes the phone almost useless for incoming calls. I will keep you informed.

I never doubted for a moment that you two would pass congratulations! Now you can relax and just enjoy.

Ok Jim so now you have the post office taken care of call and listen to the music so you can tell them to resend. The last time I called to ask a question it took 40 minutes of being serenaded Always best to put all names on the mail box. Also if you marry and she takes your name remember to put her maiden name on the box to be sure that someone sending mail that way doesn't get it back.

We're thinking of subscribing to italkBB too. Does this service support 911 calls or do you need to keep your local number for that? Also, I assume it doesn't work if there is a power outage. Thanks, Peter 197687[/snapback] They provide 411 and 911. So far used 2 hours of talk time. You can monitor your account on the website. It gives a call history also for those that will want calling records for GUZ. It would work even in an outage if you add a battery back up. But I wasn't worried about that since I would probably use my cell anyway. Remember if you have a phone that needs a power source like most today the land line doesn't work either. I emailed out the China number and am real curious how that incoming China line will work. If someone is interested in trying italk would you mind giving our referral number. It would give us credit on the monthly charge. You know compensation for being guinea pig just give them referral BB#8991032067. Thanks

The italk modem arrived today. It only took a minute to setup on the router I have and plug in my old phone. Calls are clear. Just takes getting use to putting in all numbers with the area code. Even those in our own area code. Can't wait to start giving out the China number we got with it.

Yeh, the office closed hours ago. What happened? -
Jim we are not seeing NBC. We are eating Sunday brunch there. This is a Chinese Restaurant in Monterey Park right next to San Gabriel. You can still start home by noon.

Several companies I found offer numbers in Hong Kong (HK). This is because they have no authorization to do so in China proper. italkbb seems to be the first. They are specificly set up to serve the Chinese American community and have offices in China. Your SOs can set it up from the Chinese language site. Like KylinTv and Soyodo Book Stores this is a Chinese owned company with the purpose of making life easier overseas. This is a new development of business catering to the needs of overseas Chinese as China assumes a greater international role and conforms with WTO membership.

Dim Sum sounds good Here are locations and reviews of two very good places San Gabriel Valley Ocean Star Address: 145 N. Atlantic Blvd. Suite 201-203, Monterey Park, CA 91754 Phone: 626-308-2128 Rating: 4.5 Shu Mai Review: Ocean Star serves perhaps the best Dim Sum in LA. The selections are numerous, the food is tasty, and the service is good. They also offer several unique items, so you can always be a little adventurous. Ocean Star is huge, noisy, and crowded, so you know it's authentic. Overall, a good choice. NBC Seafood Address: 404 S. Atlantic Blvd. Monterey Park, CA 91754 Phone: 626-282-2323 Rating: 4.0 Shu Mai Review: Just down the street from Ocean Star is NBC Seafood, possibly the second best Dim Sum in LA. NBC is located in a small shopping center and the parking lot is full by 10am on any weekend. Its main attraction is its good service and wide selection. The dim sum is tasty. The wait is almost as long as Ocean Star so it pays to get there early.

Jason get with the program! We are still not sure about our schedule and how to free up time. Although plans are for Saturday is anyone going to be hanging around at lunch time on Sunday? I just don't know what time I can free up on the weekend. Noon Sunday may be easier for me. So don't cross us off the list but we are a definite maybe Jim if we can't make it perhaps I could meet you friday night after I finish work. And anyone else that is around.

Coco, That is a nice website you have. I thought you might be a web designer. Too bad http://www.blogworld.com.cn doesn't have an English version. In just a few years Chinese sites have gone from very stiff and simple to having more pizazz than the American sites. Dreams do come true.

Ok once again we have volunteered as Guinea Pigs. We just signed up for http://www.italkbb.com 's unlimited global service. It appears to be a good deal. As soon as the package comes we will add a China number. We enjoy our KylinTV which has great programing. Since they provided upgraded software there is much less buffering. The problem seems not to be Kylin's but rather our broadband service. I guess more and more services will be arriving via broadband.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! Was it years ago or just months since we spent lonely nights on CFL coping with the frustrations? Very soon now you will get your 21 month reprieve from dealing with the gov. Later it will all look like a piece of cake. Looks like you stepped past me again on your way up the mountain. -
Never had a problem using credit cards. Most large department stores took them and there was always a Bank of China nearby. They were even open on Saturday and Sunday. The International hotels had money exchanges where I could draw on my credit card.
-
Yes many have had this type of problem. There is still no consensus as to whether Civil Surgeons just don't understand the instructions or if they are just money hungry. In the past two options have been used. 1) go to another CS who knows what the heck they are doing. 2) Print out the instructions from the USCIS website and try to reason with them. If all else fails capitulate and do as told. The lucky thing is either way as K-3 you will be through dealing with the government faster than us K-1s

Well at least your letter was better than ours. Just got it in the mail. EAD is denied for failing to file the application before expiration of the 90 day from entry period. No appeal allowed. Should your situation change you may refile.

Can one get married in U.S. on a tourist visa?
Dan R replied to canrun's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
If there is already a I-129 filed it would be much harder to prove there was no intent to marry when the tourist visa was applied for. The key to the whole issue asked about is proof of intent. Usually this would mean proving you did not know each other or were unable to marry at the time the visa was applied for. This has been done and continues to be done. It is basicly a legal loophole based on proof of intent. It must be able to be proven satisfactorily to overcome the presumption that the visa was applied for as a ruse to marry and immigrate. The person must prove they did not intend to immigrate at the time or to marry this individual. Overstay can be overcome as long as you can prove beyond a reasonible doubt that you did not intend to marry or take the job at the time. This is easily done by showing you did not meet the person until arriving in the U.S. or that you were offered an irresistable job requiring your skill. -
Hey where is everyone????? It may be raining but don't let that scare you away. It will surely stop before the gathering. I hope.

Very interesting figures. But when you do something well shouldn't you do it? And we sure do tell others how to run their affairs well even if they aren't listening. Remember "1984" The best way to keep everyone in line is to show them the other guy is worse off.

To the Chinese ladies here at CFL,
Dan R replied to Dennis143's topic in Culture & Language Discussion
Gee is that possible? In school it also helps create an atmosphere for learning English especially in the lower grades. It also helps them learn foreign names which appear to have no meaning since there is no Hanzi associated. I was told that all of the Holiday Inn China employees must pick an English name when they start training for their name tag. If they don't then one is assigned to them. -
This is really strange. The Patriot Act only allows the freezing of funds held by terrorist organizations or those funding them. Sounds fishy. They must provide you with the order from the government freezing the funds.
