3. There must be a reason. Check with Ping to see if they gave her any papers she was too upset to look at. If it is a need to over come it is not reapplying. Usually there is additional information needed. Rarely it is a flat out denial and no immediate explanation. In such case getting the help of an attorney or your Congressman may be advisable. Try searching on the board "blue slip" and "Overcome". It should bring up a number of examples. Best of Luck to both of you.
4. Be sure to get the State I.D. well before the I-94 expires since in California it will probably only be issued to expire with the I-94.
5. Go to Seattle and turn left. 200821 ...and then stop in Albuquerque and ask, "where the hell am I at!?!"... 200885 Just follow old 66 in from Winslow. You'll get there. -James 201036 Thanks, hanging here will be just fine. Too many Californian's west of Nevada... 201039 Hey man, you disin' us? Don't dis us man.
6. China had the most wide open kind of capitalism right now of any other country... 207403 I here ya, Roger. I agree. I spent a week in GZ last Nov. And, their capitalistic drive is truly something. However, I still can't believe GZ will ever match HK in a true capitalistic/free-trade sense. Tell me a brand name of a Chinese product that all of us can identify with (something like; IBM, Dupont, Ford, GE, Microsoft......). Until China pass laws that penalize those who steal and copy trade secrets and proprietary information, most economist state they can never truly become a developer of products, but simply a producer (and consumer) of products. Time will tell. 207470 You don't know Haier yet? This appliance company is globalizing rapidly in Europe and the USA. Many American stores now carry their products. The refrigerators, washers and dryers are becoming market leaders in a number of countries. http://www.haier.com/abouthaier/view.asp?newsid=3444 http://www.ifm.eng.cam.ac.uk/cim/chimnet/r...imei_haier.html When nearly bankrupt the CEO turned it around by providing the first nation wide customer friendly network in China. Repairmen and deliverymen went to a class to learn how to deal with customers in the home and create the Haier experience. This was so unusual in China that they quickly dominated the market in China.
7. My wife's notice said nothing about photo and signature but they were done when she went in for the biometrics.
8. The last time I went shopping for cars (1996), I put a couple of VIN's through CarFax (be sure to do this for ANY used car you are considering) - one had an odometer roll-back, the other had had a salvage title. I bought new. This time, there seems to be very little in the papers, and mostly cars that have already been sold. In my opinion CarMax prices are too close to new car prices - you might as well buy new. I'm pretty much Toyota-only these days. 207088 Run CarFax even with new. I once bought a new car which later was having front end and electrical problems. Examination by my mechanic found it had been in an accident and repaired. Checking the VIN resulted in that the car had been switched with a dealer in another area after a front end collision. Why do these things only happen to me.
9. Actually those types of Chicken are very popular with chefs these days. They are sold as Organic Free Range Chicken and command a hefty price compared to regular chicken. Most Chinese restaurants buy Roasters (older birds than fryers) because they want some bite to it not just mush. I prefer the Brown Organic Free Range Eggs at the market. They are hard to break because they are healthier, have a darker yolk and are tastier.
10. Is it a religion? Technically not because as David says there is no diety. But then that would be defining religion (a western word and concept) in a western way. The word religion itself is usually referring not only our origin but a divine cause. This tends to exclude many belief sysatems which attempt to explain existence in other terms. To me it is a religion since the concept of Qi explains the natural tendencies of energy as the creation of order and the solid world. Further it attempts to define proper activity and community of man in moral terms, which is a broader common characteristic of religion
11. Yes the Schedule C with their taxes would prove self employment but they also want to see any licenses or certifications they have related to their work. A copy of their business license can be added with the tax forms.
12. Feng Shui is much more than that because it is a way of living that maintains harmony of the universe thereby keeping away bad luck and making things right. It is used in architecture to assure that the doors, kitchen, bathroom even the direction the house faces will ward off evil. Things such as mirrors to reflect back evil spirits are used for protection. Also as part of the living in harmony with the universe it is about how you include the elements of earth, wood, metal, water and fire in your life. This is why it is so attractive to New Agers interested in oneness with the planet. I find it interesting that the Navajo Indians have a similar system.
13. Congratulations! She should have no problem returning with the AP. The computer will show she is a resident.
14. I think this means just that you are in the system. Our received date is 12/6/05. A few who submitted around then have received their cards already. Others like us are waiting. Good luck!
15. Go to Liaoyang south of Shenyang and visit a Buddhist temple with China's largest Buddha. It also enshrines one of Buddha's fingers. This is a new temple completed only two years ago. Nearby you can see the White Tower which is a very interesting ancient stone structure. And while you are there enjoy some of the best restaurants in the province.
16. What a horrible thing to have happen when you are expecting so much joy. I think you have already been given good advise here. Let them know what THEY not YOU have done and tell anyone you can find. This will at least prove your involvement. You might actually find someone who can do you some good. Don't forget to ask it as a question in Guz Speaks forum. Good luck to the three of you.
17. As for the wedding ring, there is no such custom for Chinese so they don't see the reason to wear it on a certain finger. We did not do a ring ceremony because she doesn't like the custom, neither of us likes to wear rings and as she said, "if you want to cheat you just take off ring so what use is it.? Trust and love are the only thing that really matters anyway. As for green hats, I just checked her storage and she doesn't have one Nor do I ever want to give her any reason to get one.
18. There are a number of retail slaughter markets for poultry in L.A.
19. What goes on? They stopped sending us emails and you get triple
20. During the first 90 days you can work just with the I-94 in your passport. This is clearly stated on the I-9 which every employer must have new employees fill out. Since this will soon expire it is up to the company how they will treat the expiration. Many companies just check all the files for update once a year. As long as you can show the EAD or PR before that there would be no problem. However the current call for punishment of employers who hire illegals may result in employers asking employees to leave until they have finished being processed. I would ask the employer if they think it would be a problem to work during the time between.
21. Oops! I forgot to log in. For some reason my computer will not automaticly log into some sites. (I almost missed a post count, hehe)
22. How many people went to China or talk to their SO careful to say a Chinese word correctly and just get a puzzled look? I am not talking about all the words we use the wrong tone. You must have called Guangzhou at first Canton. Wasn't it puzzling that no one knew what it meant? How about traveling on the Yangtze River. I quickly changed to Changjiang so people knew where I had been. Some of this is the change from Cantonese to Mandarin other changes are just the modern Communist forms and yet others are because we had it wrong all along. Then there is Peking which even we now call Beijing. So why does everyone still call the roast duck Peking style? At the top of my list are: Guangzhou = Canton Changjiang = Yangtze River Yin yang = bagua and this is in English but it was an argument in our house when I kept referring to Chinese New Year. Spring Festival is the accepted name in our house now. "What do you mean Chinese New Year? We celebrated that on January 1st." Anyone want to add any?
23. Yes Ping also says this book is very interesting and answers many questions while raising new ones. She wished it was in English so I could read it too.
24. To kill microbes left in public washers and dryers why not just spray the inside of the drum with one of the available and effective sanitizers such as Bactine or Lysol? You could also add a squirt of any of the antibacterial dish washing liquids to your laundry. I sometimes add Tea Tree Oil or Lemon Oil which also kill a wide range of bacteria. Pine Oil works also.
