1. Tony thanks for such a detailed account.
2. It is my understanding that you do not need to declare the income for 2005. Foreign income is required to be reported for taxes by U.S. Citizens & Resident Aliens (Permanent Resident). You are on a nonimmigrant visa. Unless you are authorized to work in the U.S. and received income between Dec 15 and Dec 31, I believe you have no reportable income. Be sure your husband files as married and two exemptions for a nice tax break. Welcome to America, the land of freedom and clear cut simple to understand laws.
3. The most important traditional female role model in China is Mulan. It is the story of a good daughter who risked her life in battle to save her aged father. She was from Wuhan, Hubei Sheng. A mountain and large park are dedicated to her. This is the legend to blame if your wife is a workaholic that puts every need of her family above herself. This often today manifests as working hard to send money so the family is taken care of. "Mulan was the daughter of a retired Imperial General. When their native land was threatened with war, the Emperor sent for all his trusted and decorated generals. The Imperial Court officials sent messagers to summon these generals. When they came to summon Mulan's father, she disguised herself as a young man and took his place. The messengers had never seen the retired general before and were easily fooled into believing she was the general they were seeking. Mulan was very much a tomboy and being the only child, she got pretty much what she wanted. She insisted on learning the martial arts though it was improper for a lady to do so. No one knew she was a girl until after she lead her troops to a few victories in battle. Her story did not have a happy ending, though (as do many stories of Chinese folk heroes). I think she died in a glorious battle...and maybe there was little betrayal by jealous Imperial Court officials."
4. I have heard from several people going to interview soon that their attorneys told them there are many changes in how interviews are done since Jan 1. I didn't find anything about it on USCIS website. Nothing seemed unusual from what they said the attorneys said. So has anyone heard anything about AOS changes? Or is this just a ploy to justify charging much moola?
5. Give them her phone number. For rural delivery of moon cakes before to some friends they had to call to get delivery instructions. They are very good about this. Once they even messaged me back to tell me what a nice man one of my friends is You can handle it by Yahoo messenger.
6. Unless you have hit a stone wall in the process do not cross interdepartmental turfs. It can only irritate things. Currently your timeline indicates everything is fine. Only pull out your gun if you need to shoot,
7. Congratulations! I can only imagine the relief you must feel to be almost finished with all of this for for the next year and a half. Wow, 21 months without any DOS processing.
8. Oh yeh right. Real easy if you proof it after printing and before mailing. Be careful of the default settings in the visapro form. Since one line which gave her birthdate as 2005 was overlooked, USCIS returned the app because I had paid the fee for an adult and the officer noted that my fiance is less than a year old. Well I may be in trouble for sending the same check back with the birthdate changed. After all I have not followed their helpful instructions.
9. Hey guys! Where are the vinegar and chili with oil in these recipes??? And no noodles with it? Oh come on by now you should all know macaroni is not a noodle.
10. Have a safe drive and congratulations on making one more step in the process.
11. usually there are vaccinations needed that weren't done in China. This was included in our $90 fee. Good luck I hope you get away for just the $25.00.
12. Right the breed is the silkie. It has a blueish black skin and is the size of a cornish hen. A variety of chicken. http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Sil...BRKSilkies.html Chinese usually use it as medicinal soup particularly to lessen a woman's monthly problems. It is also taken during pregnancy. Jujube tea is another medicinal used monthly although I happen to like it any time. If you really want to try a good tasting bird, try Poussin. It is also a small variety but comes from France. In my opinion they are the tastiest chickens.
13. Congratulations Steve! What a relief to have that finished I bet. When we met Amy's English was already understandable. I am sure she has improved, but who wouldn't be nervous at an official interview in a foreign language. We've already done the biometrics. I hope all goes as smoothly as yours.
14. right even the empty. Actually it is a certified copy that the notary can do.
15. Here in California most markets carry them in the freezer section. There are both Chinese and Japanese brands. Aji no moto is the most common. Several Chinese owned meat companies here make them for the markets.
16. have you tried any of these? 181029 Not yet. I think most people in this site are non-Chinese and male. So maybe you should try 001. 181033 What does that have to do with it Tony???? I made my first jiaozi at Christmas time. They came out so good that my wife's friend said "these would be a good first try even for a Chinese". They were good. Ground chicken with chopped green onion, salt, pepper and chopped young ginger. Being from the North I take her friend's compliment seriously. Tony my wife and I split cooking duties and all of our home meals are Chinese cooking.
17. I was surprised to find that my wife's brother and his wife have two children. I suppose it's possible she remarried and the first is from another husband. I didn't ask. 180694 Twins are another possibility.
18. Actually there are many more exceptions. Minorities are not limited and a woman can have a second child when she remarries. The local allowance also makes application of the law (this is common in China) very uneven.
19. How about having her admitted as a foreign student the first year and then when she qualifies as a resident changing status. This would make entering easier and give her advantages she would not have as a regular Community College student.
20. I bought Behind The Wheel Chinese. After 1 1/2 hours driving and listening my wife says she can understand my pronounciation! It builds your vocabulary and teaches making sentences yourself. What is missing is the visual and writing part of the learning process. For me this makes it take longer to remember the vocabulary. I will now make a list of the words on the CD and practice. I'll even add to my list the ºº×Ö¡£ The set has 8 cds for eight one hour lessons. I have now listened to disc 1 three times and it has made an improvement in both speaking and listening. Of course anything would have been an improvement
21. Congratulations!!!!!! Just a hint but I wouldn't criticize her menu plans Have you fed her? Sounds like she may be hungry for real food. Mmmmm spicy fish heads. You lucky guy! ENJOY!!!!!!!!!
22. OOOOOOOOhhhhhhhh Mike!!!!!!!! Do you look for the nearest stick whenever you spot a hornets nest?
