1. Is it possible to get the Green Card without an interview? Ken
2. In November my wife's 2 children will be joining us here in the US on K-2 visa. Will the AOS procedure be the same as it was for my wife? Ken
3. Ying and I have been waiting 3 months already since completing biometrics to receive the EAD. My understanding is that normally within one month after the biometrics the EAD should be received. I recently mailed a photo copy of the originally application to USCIS. They sent back a form letter saying that no faxes or letters are being accepted for inquiries. The only source for information is the 800 number which is always backlogged. When I finally spoke to a case worker, they said it was necessary for my wife to be on the phone also with an interpreter. All I want to know if the the EAD was lost in the mail or delayed for another reason. This is turning into a real joke. Anyone have suggestions on how to get to the bottom of this? Ken
4. Question. Why is it that most of the men on CFL are in complete denial when it comes to the intention of the Chinese woman? Several months ago I had a discussion with one of our higher profile members. He said to me, contrary to the way it might look, EVERY CHINESE WOMAN on the Internet has an AGENDA. That agenda is to get to the USA.Don't think otherwise. It is a fact. You can choose to believe this or not. Maybe we need to realize and accept this and move forward. Your SO did not pick you out for some magical reason. She saw as an opportunity to enhance her life. This is not a problem if she is willing to give as well as receive. This does not mean we cannot have a successful long term relationship. as long as there is balance from both parties. If we honestly look further into the matter, it can be said that we, the American men have agendas also(significantly younger, pretty, etc.) So it some respectrs it is a two way street. When we defend the credibility of our Chinese SO we are really just trying to defend our own credibility. That is why in my opinion there are such intense discussions on topics such as the ones brought up by chinadave and bisqueaky. As long as all of us are involved in our marriages for the right reasons, I see no reason to fear failure. I find no good reason to bash either the Chinese woman or the American man because all of us are individuals with different makeup. Unfortunately there will not be 100% success rate in the intercultural marriages. Best wishes to all Ken
5. Best wishes for the future. Come on David, you go show a little excitement!
6. In our society we thrive on the "try it before you buy it" mentality. Today most couples live together for a significant time before getting married. In this particular situation we do not have this luxury We spend a couple of vacations in China with our SO's and based on this we have to make very important decisions on our future. Not really ideal circumstances. Best suggestion is to wait until the 89th day. There are no guarentees. This is not a perfect science. Good luck!! Ken
7. Again I ask where have all the newly weds gone? All those members who were posting frequently for many months. Are they lost forever? Never to be heard from again. Oh my!
8. Next thing will be a NOA to give you an interveiw date. Depending on what part of the country you are in will depict the speed. In the Northwest here it goes pretty quick, 4 months from NOA1 to Interveiw date. Some people have posted here 1 to 2 years to get interview date. As far as restrictions after you get the Green Card, the only thing I am aware of is to change address if you move. Travel, Work no problem. 143755 I have heard the term conditional Green Card??????
9. Basically, you have a long way go, or maybe not. It all "depends" Look here for AOS info, and do some research: http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1k2visa-aos.html After doing that, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions. 143745 Thanks Stats. I had read through that site previously
10. My wife has been in the US since early March. We submitted all the AOS paper work. Recently we had the Biometrics done. Now we are just waiting to be notified for the interview for Green Card. What happens next? If we get the Green Card what restrictions if any are there? Ken
11. Jim: Good luck with the process. Sean is a very special young man. Ken
12. I am quite baffled by the posts in this thread. Steve, unless I have misread your letters, it seems like you are saying the most important issue currently, is to come together as quickly as possible with your SO. Why does your SO want to entertain any thoughts of doing something that is going to delay this process? She is highly qualified and without a doubt will land meaningful employment in this country once she arrives. I think she is complicating an already complicated situation. In my opinion she is putting me before we. Is she being honest about her motivation? Hope everything comes to a good conclusion. Ken
13. Top priority, being with you or a job that has many strings attached?
14. I am wondering what is more important to your SO, being with you as soon as possible or landing this job. Maybe she is having second thoughts about her relationship and this is a way of buying more time. With her background she can get a very good job in the US without any problem. In my eyes it seems a little odd that she is having concern about a job at this point. Maybe you need to find out what she really is thinking. Good luck. Ken
15. Hey Ken, Congratulations.... I live in Virginia, but am anxious to have my wife make the transition also, she will not be here for several more months, but please keep contact and expect a visit from us when it gets cold up here......... Take care.... 135140 Hank: I have a friend in Virginia who just brought his fiancee over from China. Maybe you would like to connect with them. Contact me. Ken
16. Today my wife Ying and I met another CFL couple Jim and Ning Ning(and son Sean) for the first time. They live here in Florida also. What a great time we had together. Just nice to be with others in the same situation. Thanks CFL for connecting us. Ken
17. My fiancee and I were married April 4th here in Jupiter Florida. My wife had decided to take my last name. Shortly thereafter we went to get SSN and were told that we had to use the name that appeared on her passport and K-1 visa. So we had to use her maiden name. OK, no problem. Then our next move was to fill out all the AOS paperwork. Again I used her maiden name in fear that any changes to the information that appeared on the original documents might cause problems. We were told to officially change her name, it was necessary to get a Florida state ID card at the state Drivers License facility. Because all the AOS stuff is currently in the system and pending I thought it was wise not to make any official changes. To top things off when I tried to put her name on my bank account to make it a joint one we were rejected because they said my wife needed to show 2 picture ID's. She only has one from the passport/visa. Why are we running into so many roadblocks here? It doesn't seem to be the case with other CFL couples. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks, Ken
18. Hearing from the CFLers who have been through the visa process and now moved on to the next phase gives good perspective to those who are still waiting. It is important to see all aspects of the journey. Hopefully everyone is doing well in their individual situations. We all know there are great challenges within the relationship that are not always easily met early on. Looking forward to hearing from more of the past members. Blessings to all. Ken
19. This is quite common although it is not often written about. I am not sure what happens if you go beyond the 90 day period. Both of you put a lot of time and effort to get to this point. Are both of you willing to give up so easily? I guarentee that your fiancee does not want to return to China. Are the problems too big to overcome? I wish you well in your decision. GIVE IT TIME! Ken
20. It is just nice to get away from the urban mentality Ken
