  1. Richard: We went to Houston from West Palm Beach, Florida and completed the process in a matter of hours. Returned home the same day. Contact me if you want any further info. Ken
  2. The cost of flights has escalated due to the price of fuel. In addition, the airlines raise their prices May 15th through the end of the summer because the demand for tickets is higher during this period. If you check the same flights for April or October the prices will be significantly lower. Ken
  3. Just wanted to report back on our experience. My wife, son, and I went to Houston Chinese Consulate yesterday (3-15-11).We were able to renew the Chinese passport for our son. The Consulate opens at 9am. We arrived at 8:30 and there were about 25 people in line already outside the front door on the street. Fortunately, we were able to get in quickly and complete everything before 11am. Total cost was 60 dollars(55 for passport and 5 service charge for mailing). My advice is to arrive before 9am. The Consulate closes at 3pm and takes lunch from 11:30 am to !pm. Bring a pre paid US postal mailer envelop. I had a FEDEX mailer and they would not accept it. Had to go to the post office on Richmond Street about 8 blocks away. There were more than a few people buying envelopes and money orders for their applications for the Chinese Consulate. Inside the Consulate all the business is taken care by 4 individuals who are sitting behind glass windows much like a Chinese bank. Applicants were crowded around these windows and submitting their paper work. I was surprised that it was so unorganized. There is a nice Chinatown area about 15 minute ride from Consulate. There were lots of restaurants and other stores. I am very relieved to finally get this taken care of. If anyone is going to Houston and needs info, feel free to email me. Happy to help out. Ken Ken
  4. Many thanks dnoblett for the information. Hopefully we can get this done during Xmas or Easter. Ken
  5. Carl, are you saying all can be done in one business day at the consulate? Are all the forms available there? Do we need birth certificates or any other legal documents beside the passport? By chance do you remember the form numbers, so I can access from the internet beforhand? Thanks for your time! Ken
  6. Probably going to have to contact an immigration lawyer with experience in Chinese issues. Ken
  7. Has anyone done the Chinese passport renewal at Houston Consulate? Impossible to get any up to date and accurate information regarding what documents are needed and other essential details. I even saw on the Internet that minors are not required to apply in person. Is this true? How many days would we nneed to be in Houston? Would appreciate any feedback regarding this topic. Many thanks, Ken
  8. Still unsuccessful finding out if the Houston Chinese Consulate is coming to Florida in August. Their website has made no mention of it. Anyone know for sure ????? Ken
  9. I was finally able to get through on their information line. The Houston Chinese Consulate will be in Orlando sometime in August for 1 day. They will post this information on their website 30 days in advance. It is about 175 miles from our home, but it is better than going all the way to Houston.
  10. We are living in Jupiter, Florida and need to get our son an updated Chinese passport. It appears that the Houston Consulate is where we need to go. In the past they have come to Florida at different times for one day availability. Does anyone have any idea when they may be in Tampa or Miami or other cities in the near future? Thanks, Ken
  11. My wife arrived in US on this date. It's been an amazing 5 years. I am always thankful that we met and later married. Our actual wedding anniversary is April 4th. Today is a wonderful time of reflection and gratitude for everything in my life. Ken
  12. Philly is a zoo and that is why I moved away 6 plus years ago. Ken
  13. We will wait for a while. I am not ready to get involved with another long drawn out process. The last five years has been an endless series of applications, fees, interviews, phone calls, etc.. It gets old real fast. Ken
  14. Uncle Sam wants 675 more dollars times 3(wife, daughter, son). What happens if and when 10 year Green Card expires? Ken
  15. My wife and 2 children have received their 10 year green cards. Do we still need all the mountain of paperwork that dates backs as far as 5 plus years? There are certain things like divorce papers and birth certificates that I will hold on to. What about the other stuff? Ken
  16. Jupiter, Florida an upscale community on the ocean is a great place to live. Highly rated school system, small town environment, very little crime, and proximity to West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale Asian food markets. Hey, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Joe Namath, Bill Parcells, Mike Schmidt, Burt Reynolds and Celine Dion all live in the immediate area. Ken
  17. Do we need an appointment????? It is really unbelieveable that you cannot get anyone to answer the phone at the Houston Consulate. On a few occasions I have gotten someone and they disconnect you or redirect to a dead end. The website is a complete waste of time also. Ken
  18. It looks like my family and I will have to find a way to get to Tampa on February 28th. There does not seem to be any way around this. We are about 190 miles away. It would be nice if the Houston Consulate was coming somewhere in south Florida. What exact documents are needed for this process?? Do they accept personal checks as payment?? Any other need to know information?? Thanks, Ken
  19. Thanks Mike. That seems like a good possibility. Do Florida residents go thru the Houston consulate? We were told that some locals had gone up to NYC recently for the passport renewel? Ken
  20. My wife and children need to renew their Chinese passports. The information available on the internet and directly with the Chinese consulate is quite confusing and conflicting. If there is anyone out there who can give us specific information on how and where to do this, it would be most appreciated. We live in the state of Florida.(I am aware your state of residence determines which consulate will process the passport). I can be reached by phone at (edited by warpedbored, it is not a good idea to post email or phone numbers in a public forum. Contact this member by PM for this information.) Thanks! Ken
