  1. I had no problem. Called 2 days after wedding and adding wife and step to policy. They asked for SS but I told them I didn't have. Was retroactive to wedding date.
  2. I can tell you this worked really well for me. I bought a house and started some projects. I was so pressed for time that I barely had a second to think about being apart. I also spent as much free time exercising as I could to keep my spirits up.
  3. Hang in there Jesse. Even though my case went fast, we spent over 18 months waiting for divorce to be finished, so I know the agony of not knowing when you will be together. All I can say is that now my wife says the 2 years was "so fast" even though she had many discouraging days.
  4. If you had vaccinations in China bring your vaqcciantion booklet, transalted into English, to the cicil surgeon. He will update shots and fill out the I-693 vaccination supplement-put it in a sealed envelope and you are ready to go. 158450[/snapback] Called around and after having several Civil Surgeons want to do a complete medical exam, found one that will look at her yellow book and sign the forms. Neither she nor her daughter need to show up. $40 each
  5. Am confused by the need for a medical exam. per this website FAQ I-693 Ks: If you were admitted to the United States as a fiance(e) (K-1), child of a fiance(e) (K-2), Spouse of a U.S. citizen (K-3), or child of K-3 (K-4), and received a medical examination prior to admission, then you do not require another medical examination as long as your application for adjustment of status (Form I-485) is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. You will, however, be required to submit a vaccination supplement with our adjustment of status application. The vaccination supplement must be completed by a designated civil surgeon." So what does a Civil Surgeon need to do with I-693 if a medical exam is not required?
  6. My SO used Elong several times to travel when I visited her in China. Always had a good trip.
  7. Maybe more appropriately - even in victory there is defeat Congratulations Lee!!!
  8. Congratulations on the visa. Hope all goes well with your wife's health. My mother had cervical cancer over 15 years ago and she's still flying around like a young woman. So I'm sure things will work out for you.
  9. My condolences on the loss of your mother. Hope the sun shines on your interview
  10. I think Frank may have hit the nail on the head. The good news is that if you persist, I think there is good data to show you will get the visa. One important thing I think will be for you to be in GZ the next time she goes there.
  11. We claimed several thousand $$ in personal items and Customs did not bat an eye. Also claimed a lot of cash and only had to fill out a simple form. So I don't think it is an issue. We had no idea how much her items cost but we had 6 bags holding 34 kg each as well as her engagement ring.
  12. Step -daughter is 12, my daughter is 13, and my boys are 14, 15. Part of the problem is my kids are teenagers and getting very independent, have their own friends and lots of established activiities.
  13. My kids do not seem to be upset or jealous. Its my SO and daughter that are upset. I think she had the idea that somehow my kids would magically make friends with her daughter. Some issues: - my kids like watching movies and playing video games but step daughter is not interested in the later and can't understand movies yet - mother and daughter talk to each other in Chinese The two groups are basically isolated from each other and misinterpreting each others actions or tones (you know how harsh Chinese can sound)
  14. We've talked alot about the culture issues that your SO faces here. Not sure I've seen much on children. I have some children from a previous and a new step-daughter. They are all about the same age. Anybody have any experience integrating families? Our first weekend together did not go so well
  15. lot of cultural differences in children as well. I am starting to see them now between my children and step daughter. Even young Chinese are all about saving face. Hope they can adjust to each other.
  16. Welcome home David and Zixuan. Yes, I can imagine Zixuan trying to talk to squirrels Funny about the cups. Jenny would only use the towels she brought from China. My towels are "not clean - who knows who has used them?" It is tricky findiing the EAD stamp. I missed it until lele pointed out where it is. Life is great
  17. While in China for the petition, Jenny got sick and I got to see first hand medical practice in one of GZ's best hospitals. Service was fast and efficient compared to US and much cheaper. Sat in big room with dozens of people getting drip IV's watching how things work. Sanitation was pathetic. Saw many nurses with cut fingers bleeding all over. Lots of contaminated stuff left in open containers. Broken glass on the floor and typical filthy Chinese restrooms. Personaly, I would not enter a Chinese Hospital unless dying. I also watched a program while there that talked about HIV contamination of blood supply. Apparently there is a big black market for blood. People sell it and it is not well regulated. Whole towns have been wiped out by transfusions of contaminated blood. So, don't get blood in China.
  18. Well, don't I feel like a dumb ass now. Thanks Jason - yes indeed there is an EAD stamp on the back of the I-94. Since it was stapled to her passport, I never looked at the backside.
  19. You will want to have a passport that is valid for at least a year. My SO's was going to expire in Dec, so she just had hers renewed 2 months before the interview.
  20. Plan on changing my will, name her as beneficiary for my pension, SS and insurance. Also put her name on the house.
