1. Doug, you have my sympathy. Don't know what to say. I guess nothing we say can make it go faster for you. I think that perspective is the only thing you can rely on. In a few years (of blissful happiness), you will look back at this as no big deal. But today that is hard to accept. Just know that this too shall pass.
2. Frankly it embarresses me to have her referred to in that way. My travels in China and Russia indicate that there is considerable prejudice towards blacks. I think this is nothing more than that. End of story
3. Thats the type of gift you should save for your wifes birthday
4. not sure if this is a deserved name or just a result of prejudice. Don't really like it myself. don't have any data to suggest she is any different than any other VO
5. I give replies to these questions as a Chinese woman: - for the mama & papa American Ginseng or Deep sea fish oil. Vitamin pills are not appealing to elderly cos they always prefer vegies or fruit. - for the sister Skin care set by the Bodyshop. You can get it in the UK. I would think skin care is more universal than make-up cos you never know what color matches her. I've got a Bodyshop gift pack with a small bottle of perfume and a small bottle of body lotion in. The pack looks very decent. A Kenneth cole purse will be a nice gift too. - for her brother in law ?????? no idea ( all I know is an academic and love gadgets which men do not like them ). A collection of American coins and a collection of American stamps. A lot of academics like those stuff. - for the nephew , maybe lego to occupy his mind for a while and leave me alone How old is he? Chinese ppl like buying "instructive gift" to children, so I would suggest a set of scrabble. He may not use it now but I think his parents will appreciate it cos it will help their son to learn English in the near future. - For my special one ( givency and dolce cabana ) givency and dolce cabana perfume? If that's her preference. Personally I would suggest Victoria's Secret lingerie or a Swarovski ring. 151117 Agree that cosmetics may not be a good choice. Was told by my SO that many Chinese women complain that they can't find good cosmetics in the US. Seems that they want colors that make their skin more pale whereas US women want to coverup the paleness of their skin.
6. I have never used the site, but my SO has used Elong for all our travels in China. Got a very nice trip to Sanya through them. I think she booked one-way from Yantai to JFK for 3800 rmb through them too, but can't confirm at the moment. She always uses local agents.
7. Good luck to both of you. Hope to see you there
8. CONGRATULATIONS. and don't worry - You will find it again. 150973 He won't find it here - in fact the more time you spend here the further away it will go
9. Try American Gingseng. It seems to be highly valued in China as do American vitamins
10. Great news and congratulations. Looks like October interview dates are going to be coming out. Time to start new threads for all the bouncing frogs
11. Not sure if I would call them superstitions as much as "old wives tales" she relies on. She has tons of ideas that have an unknown basis. For example, she needs to open the windows every day to get fresh air (even in winter) otherwise the air will be stale and stale air causes sickness, can't walk on the carpet from shower to bed, because its dirty and will transfer germs to bed.
12. I like Pincity.com since I can put money in the card and she can call from China for 4.5 cents/min. Calls from US are under 3 cents. Also get a log of both incoming and outgoing calls date and minutes Pincity
13. Glad to hear you are going ahead with a ceremony. Look forward to meeting you once again on the other side of the earth. Safe journey
14. Congratulations!! Sounds like all the interviews at the new consulate are going well. Great news
15. I will give you first hand experience in about 2 weeks. I moved also and my application has old address. My I134 has my new address. So I wrote up a statement with the new address and had it notarized. If its an issue, I hope GZ accepts it.
16. BP, Great post.... different requirements for CR-1/Cr-2's? 150178 Don't see anything specific to CR-1 visajourney has a separate link for K3/K4 but I don't see any major difference Entering US K3/K4
17. For the many that will be returning in Sept Entering the US K1/K2
18. 001 like Chinese traffic patterns CFL like US traffic patterns. Both systems work but driving in China scares us. 001 is less regulated like traffic there but it works for them.
19. Hang in there guys for another couple of weeks. I'm sure the P4 will start coming out again. Seems this is the hardest part of the wait. But you are in the queue and its only a matter of time
20. My SO found lots of very beneficial information on 001. The two of us have had lots of "high level" discussions about the merits of both 001 and CFL. When I have pointed out to her that it has inaccuracies and rumors she has turned around and pointed out some of the same on CFL. I used to worry that she would be fed some bad information on 001 to hurt our relationship, but was scolded for not trusting her judgement. So in the end I have come to accept 001 as part of the Chinese experience that is very useful for my SO.
21. I heard mainland (not HK) people use the term Ai Ren. It means lover. I found it funny to call your wife "lover" because a wife is more than a lover. She can be your best friend and manage the family. In USA, you call your mistress your Lover. 150035 But you might not want to call her your "partner". My SO was insulted by this since partner is strictly a business word in her mind
22. More than likely they won't even look at it. And in theory you should be fine if you can show you have a stable history of employment at over 125%. But there is a lot of discretion in the VO's decision as to what is acceptable. Just like relationship evidence, why go on the cheap with the bare minimum when you are rolling the dice. Relationships with Chinese are costly in time, money and stress. I would not want to face my SO coming out of the interview with a rejection because the VO wanted something I could have easily provided.
23. I have to face a severe double standard on this language deal. When I speak Chinese both SO and daughter laugh like crazy. If they don't pronounce something right and I don't understand, I'm not very smart
