Just drive like they do in Boston - stare straight ahead and assume everyone will move out of your way.

another medical question
BuffaloPaul replied to xulei601's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
If you are staying in a hotel I think it is cheaper to pay the extra 100rmb for expedited results rather than wait 3 days, unless you are just interested in touring GZ -
SO's assets in China
BuffaloPaul replied to riki37421's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
We have gone round and round about this because my SO has considerable assets in China. For now she will rent out one property and have her parents live in the other. I think that there are risks either way and we did not know how to transfer her assets to the US. (I dont' think the Chinese gov't allows much) In the end it was a personal decision on her part. Hopefully, in the future there will be more options. We are not worried about the government seizing the property, but who knows? Maybe they have the same absurd eminent domain laws we have. -
I've used Vonage for about 5 years and think its great. Recently I have seen ads for Broadvoice which offers a flat rate unlimited calls to US and China. (about $24/month). Anybody use this?
-
all I can add is - yes of course! Especially when either of us was traveling
-
Our situation is similar. My ex's husband abandoned her at the birth of her daughter and my SO moved from the northwest to Hainan then Ningbo. So she spent a lot of time tracking down this guy, getting full custody in writing plus having him write a letter saying he agreed to let his daughter leave the country. So I think we have all bases covered. Since I adopted several children, I know from US laws if the husband abandons the child and cannot be found, then you have a lawyer apply to have the Court terminate the fathers parental rights. The government will advertise in the paper looking for the biological father for a couple of weeks and if there is no response, terminate his rights. I would not try to leave China with the documents you have now. Too many countries are concerned about child abduction.

Only required if you want discount fare. I've purchased one-way on NWA no problem

I use a card called pincity. I pay about 2.9 cents to call her. If she wants to call me, there is a Chinese "800" number she calls. My phone card is debited, so she doesn't have to pay. I think calls from china are only 4.5 cents per min - the feature is called italk pincity I used to use BigZoo (since out of business) which had the callback feature Frank aluded to. But you had to be near a computer to originate the call. With Pincity I was able to call the US while vacationing in Sanya without computers

So , I assume building opens at 8, people go into lobby and those called go to 5th floor, while USC waits in lobby?

What surprised me most was that in the areas I visited KFC was king! the Chinese seemed to love their KFC. Franchises are in high demand. I think Jenny will be disappointed with US KFC's. Not near as nice, nor do they have the food variety.
-
Yes, Jenny talked to me one time about her early years and living in the cultural revolution. Talks about waiting in long lines to get meager rations of food. Lots of Communist stuff in grade school with uniforms and everything pointed toward Mao. She never has said anything bad about Mao. If I remember right she also talked about stories of people disappearing. Just recently she told me (after defending everything Chinese for 2 years) about seeing the video of Tianamen Square when she was in Hong Kong one time several years ago. I assume I will hear more stories after she leaves China. She felt very uncomfortable talking about Tianamen incident.

Who will travel to Guz for the interview?
BuffaloPaul replied to nygatl15's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
already asked and most answered except you whos going to GZ in Sep? -
Sad that this is true. My SO posted her interview date on 001 and another woman emailed her saying that she had same interview date and asked for her phone number. After giving it out, Jenny has had several sleepless nights worrying about this person. 146093 Is she staying at the same hotel ? 146094 not aware that she is

Has told me she doesn't like. From what I gather she is not aware of the wide variety of cheeses available. Only dairy product I had in China was soupy yogurt

what is the punishment style in China
BuffaloPaul replied to david_dawei's topic in Culture & Language Discussion
Could be a problem if you have children from two marriages and the new spouse punishes her step children. A vindictive ex can raise all kinds of problems with Child Protective Services -
We decided to get married before my K-1 petition could be processed. What should I do? If you get married, your K-1 petition will no longer be valid. Your spouse will need to file a different petition, Form I-130, with the CIS GZ website FAQ

Seems like lots of questions come up about children applying for K2/K-4 visa. One was requirement for G325 during application (no but not really stated anywhere) Looking at the P4 paperwork we are not sure what forms to fill out just once for both or which require two different applications. I know for example that I needed two notarized 134 applications (one for fiancee and one for her daughter). Anyone else have insights as to requirements for children? Did not see specific FAQ regarding this. Maybe if people post their knowledge here we can create a link

Those who received P4

Interview Sep 8, fly to see family sep 10, fly to US sep 14 -
OK - did someone answer the question as to whether it was OK to use the expired forms online or fill in the forms that were in the P4? Also, on form 156 where it asks for spouse but then says (even if divorced). I assume she says none here. She thinks she should fill in ex's name but I'm not sure What duplicate forms does she need to fill in for her child? 157, GNI2, GIV24?
