  1. There is a certain amount of truth to this. I met a few Asian women here in the states, and my pursuit was often met with, "I only date Chinese (or Korean) men but we can be friends". This past weekend while riding on the subway with my wife, there was a Chinese couple sitting across from us who conversed (in Chinese) about how sad it was that my wife prostituted herself to a western man. We've encountered this kind of bias on both sides of the ocean, but it does seem to have somewhat deeper roots here than in China. At least that is my experience. Still, I disagree with the notion that all Chinese SOs main motivation for pursuing an American man is for the green card. Yes, it happens, but I think for most, each individual's choices are much more complex than that.
  2. Are there others at CSC with a similar timeline to your own that are getting approved sooner? I would only seek assistance if your case is falling behind the pack and there is significant reason for concern.
  3. I'm kinda curious about the answers to Jesse's questions also. I'd heard of mainlanders travelling to HK for a speedier process secondhand, but never knew anyone who really did it. Congrats to you both!!!
  4. Hmmm... yet another risk to consider when trying to make travel plans back to the states in advance of the interview...
  5. Keith, Here is the link to the info on the doctor I told you about in RI; http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9123 I'm looking for the file I told you about. I may have to get it from my work pc in the am...
  6. Seems a lot of people have bought cheaper one way tickets in China than in the USA, but I think what you do depends on your needs. Do you want your SO to accompany you on the return legs of your RT ticket? If not, that should simplify buying the ticket. It is also much less complicated for those travelling to cities on the west coast, especially if your flight will originate from GZ, Shanghai or Beijing. I took vacation time after the interview so I could stay in China and travel with my fiancee to her hometown and accompany her back to the states. We bought the one way tickets ahead of time from the states, figuring we could stay in GZ for an extra week or so should there have been any problems.
  7. Congrats David and Zixuan!!! Bring her home safely and best wishes for a long and happy life together! To others still out there waiting, don't let a few recent interviews make you complacent. Quan's interview experience was much like Zixuan's, but there have been several others in the past year who have not been so fortunate, and had their documents thoroughly examined. It's much better to be over prepared than to get asked for something that you neglected. Good luck to the other CFL'ers coming up this week!
  8. Congrats!!! So are they back to actually doing the interviews in the morning again? I was really glad Quan had her interview in the morning (they switched to afternoons the day after her interview). Even though it was just a few hours waiting outside, it felt like a lifetime!
  9. Glad to hear things finally seem to be moving in the right direction for you. You certainly deserve the earliest possible interview that they have available. Now we can only hope that someone at GZ sees things in the same way...
  10. Wow, that was a fast turnaround! What office did you have the interview at and what kind of timeline did you have in AOS process? We'll be happy if we can get an interview in less than a year at the Boston office, and some other offices are even slower than that.
  11. Same here. Purchased ahead and took the chance. We planned to stay in China for a couple of weeks after the interview, so we had a little wiggle time if there had been a problem, but not much.
  12. I'm really happy to hear that you are moving forward again. I looked at your timeline and realised that your I129F was submitted only 60 days after ours. It's hard to imagine what you've been through with this. I hope that you can both stay strong through these dark days and wish you a speedy path the rest of the way.
  13. Good luck Alex! I hope you can finally put this nightmare in the past...
  14. Dan, Is this your opinion or is there some kind of legal basis behind your statement??? We were not able to obtain SSN with the K1 time period, and I thought we had to wait until after the interview (we did not apply for EAD) to get it.
  15. I still poke my head in also. Like a couple of you already said, the wife owns the computer at home now. It's pretty funny, she uses bittorrent to D/L Chinese tv shows. If she's not watching something on the PC, we are usually doing something together. Most of my free time on the net is at the office now. I think there are always going to be people who drift away from the community after the visa process is over. My wife did that with 001. She was a junkie with it before the interview. Hasn't been on since she came and asks me why I still read CFL. I think it's a healthy sign that most couples are out enjoying their lives together. We are having our wedding celebration with family and friends here in the states next weekend. It kinda feels like the last episode of a trilogy.
  16. I think every state is different. In MA/RI the officiant must file the licence with the city/town clerk's office within so many days of performing the marriage. It seems in small, densely populated states, county government is very minimal. I could not even tell you which county I currently live in here in MA. BTW, Welcome to CFL Barry. Where ya from in MA?
  17. We got married in Providence RI for the same reason.
  18. http://natickma.virtualtownhall.net/Public...rk/marquest.pdf You should have no problem finding a Justice of the Peace or minister to perform the ceremony within the 90 day timeframe.
  19. Mark D, Thank you very much for your advice. I was able to get a little further by changing my settings as you suggest. I can create an ISO file now that retains the Chinese filenames. I'm still not able to see the Chinese file names after I burn it. I found my version of Nero only works with the drive it was bundled with (an older CDR drive) so I've tried Roxio and DVD Decrypter, but the DVD loses the file names when it is burned. I'm going to keep trying because I think I'm close now. Thanks again!
  20. My wife has downloaded a bunch of files with Chinese file names and she wants to archive them on DVD. Problem is none of my software seems to recognize the Chinese file names. I am running an English language version of Win XP Home with East Asian Languages installed. We can use Chinese filenames within XP with no problem. I've tried Roxio, Nero (ver 5), Win ISO and Magic ISO and none of them can 'see' the Chinese file names. If anyone has had any luck with this, I'd appriciate any pointers. Thanks!
