I thought this expat's blog entry was worth putting in here and especially the responses from Gan Lu... :cheering:

http://blog.foolsmountain.com/2008/08/23/l...a-isnt-helping/

Good stuff unka roGgiE. I liked what Gan Lu,and most all of the others had to say.

Reading that blog, as well as reading the many views of american males on Candle only reinforce in me that I am very happy and lead a very simplified life by not getting caught up in all the political and PC

stuff in life. I divorced myself from politics long ago and have lived a much happier life every since. :lightning: I don't even read newspapers..I have no need for lunacy and propaganda in my life.

When I live in China, I won't be filled with "issues" from the present nor the propaganda I was feed as a child and I see in some of my fellow american citizens.

The day I stood in T-man Square, October 2, 2006 and saw the Chinese familys there was the day I emptied mind of all the propaganda and crap I had been fed as a child.

When I move to China it will be with a blank and clean page as far as preceptions and judgements on the Chinese. I will NOT be involved in any political discussions, just as I would not allow any New Zealanders or Aussies to drag me into a political discussion when I was in those countrys. I quite literally DO NOT GIVE A SHIT..about the Chinese political situation OR america's.

I plan on being happy and I need no controversy in my life. My life is for and about my family...most everything else could be flushed down a terlet and never missed by me.

All the controversy about China in the Olympics, good grief...in my happy life none of that childish crap ever had any meaning. There is actually important stuff in life, ya know. :greenblob:

I am NOT pro american or pro Chinese...sure I volunteered and fought for america, heck, I saw something that changed my life forever and showed me what is REALLY important in life...and it's got nothing to do with governments, let me tell you.

I am a people person, I don't give a shit what my passport says, I live to be happy and I plan on spreading that outlook with the new friends I will make in China., you won't find me sweatin' any of the small stuff...hell...outside of family it's ALL SMALL STUFF.

And :surrender: you will never see any blogs from me as an "american" ex-pat in Chinatucky. China is just a 3-5 year adventure and stepping stone to somewhere else...or...maybe not :happy2:

unka roGgiE, thanks for all your links and outlooks on China. Yer doin' good buddy. :redblob:

Just enjoying the beautiful women and great food 'eh??? I couldn't agree more...I've had opportunities to engage in political discussions in China and have declined. I'm NOT pushing anybody's way as THE RIGHT ONE. When I finally arrive in China maybe for good I will have no interest in their politcal goings-on...BUT...while I'm here I do want to learn all that I can about China and that includes the countryside, the cities, the provinces, the food, and especially the history...whatever I come across that trips my trigger...hey I've got to amuse my self somehow for now though in Wiscotucky...

just do what the rest of the population does, bribe some one...

Another question for you all- Driving test in china ? anyone done it ?

Ok, now we're gettin' somewhere...... what are the regs with regard to a laowei "driving" in China? Is it province-based of PRC-wide? I've been told by some that the only thing I can get around on here, on a personal basis, is either a pedal-powered or electric-powered bicycle. Not even sure about the electric bike, some have "tags" and some don't. I used to race Formula Vee, so I think I have a headstart on competing for space on the streets. I even surprised myself yesterday at my ability to adapt. There was a large group of folks waiting for return buses at a popular tourist spot here..... after watching the crowd decend on a bus like vultures on carrion (one guy even bypassed the door completely, managed to climb into the bus through a window), I decided when in Rome...... Took laopo's hand and started saying "scuse me", went to the front of the group and when the next bus came, went around the policeman trying desperately to restore order, and was second couple on the bus

Here's a link from China.org about it Bill...

It sounds quite easy and straight-forward to get a Chinese driver's license... :whip:

Geeeeez, Rog...thanks! I'm heading over there next week and was concerned that I'd need to set up a proxy to get into my office LAN. Since Firefox is my default browser, it's a natural fit. In fact, the only thing I miss from IE is ispell. Don't know why the fox ain't got that as an addin yet.

Don is gonna' be an EXPAT???
