  1. That's terrible. I suppose it will only be a matter of time before it hits here.
  2. Do you remember when Japan was on top of the world and buying up half of America and building a little Manhattan? Then the bottom dropped out of it. Even our Fire Cheif's boss gave him a book and ordered him to read it on how to do business the Japanese way. Now, look where they are. I know that they are still doing well but nothing like they were then. I am afraid that the same thing is going to happen to China. They are going to build themselves right out of business.
  3. When I worked for the federal government we management personnel had to have 40-80 hours of personnel management classes each year. We had a guy named Richard Horwell that was a Ph.D. and the owner of his own company. He formerly worked for a very large company that was in the same line of work in New York City. He quit them and moved to the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina and bought his own mountain to build his home on. In his class, he thought that money was not a motivator of employees that the motivator was Parise to the employee. Another note was for we Americans" That the war in Vietnam was a cultural changer for America. The post-war worker had to be explained why he had to do something and not just go and do a job that you now had to explain to them why it had to be done and how. Unlike in the pre-war era of employees. I thought about that a lot after the class and I had both workers at the time and watched and compared them and he was right. The post-Vietnam war workers were much more difficult and time-consuming to supervise. I could tell an older guy to go and do a job and he would jump up and do it immediately with no explanation or instructions and the younger guys had to sit there and have the why and how explained to them. It was easy to see back then when I had a 50-50% mix but today you only have probably less than a 10-90% mix. So it is probably harder to see. The post-Vietnam workers are still here and are still a large portion of the workforce now. Then the Millennials, another story altogether. I retired in 1998 so I don't know how today's workers compare.
  4. That looks fantastic Randy.
  5. That was funny. I showed it to Lee and she said what are they doing that for? Me: What do you think to take home and wipe their bum with. I said "Chinese people are so tight that they squeak when they walk" She said "That's just crazy. She has been in the states to long I am going to have to send her back to China for retraining.
  6. I did. I thought that there was something that was not right. I guess I am getting to old. I was looking at them both at the same time with two windows open.
  7. To tell you the truth I had no idea that it would endure this long. Good for them.
  8. They are like fruitcakes they last forever. Most of the dry ones anyway.
  9. You may be right. I haven't watched them again because of the late hour here. They do portray her as the same person in the interview. I am so busy watching what she is doing. It amazes me. I am quite handy at making things but nothing like her. I use to make custom made knives and enjoyed that but without the expensive knife equipment if is more difficult and much more time-consuming. I have done a lot of woodworking too but the dust from the work is to tough on me now and I just can't stand to wear a mask. I ask the wife if she could do any of those things. She just laughed and said you have to be kidding. It seems that I have seen the blond-haired girl's videos before. She was good. I got the same impression about the old Canadian dude too. I saw the videos about his wife and even that included her. I hope that she does well. Breast cancer is much more curable how a days. Thanks for sharing them with us.
  10. Aaaaaah the ole moon cake time of the year. On one of my visits to China, the wife bought me an assorted tin box of them. There wasn't one single one of them that I could finish eating. Moon cakes baaaah. Now having given my view of them I am not saying that there aren't any that I wouldn't eat and love but I haven't found one yet.
  11. My last wife had a mental illness too Charles but I could not leave here either. Hid it well for the first 5 years. Suppose it had been me with the illness would she have left me???????? I do understand your predicament but damn it's a hard place to be ain't it? And yes she saw a psychiatrist for over 25 years. Did he help? NO!!!! Not one damn bit. Just throwing money in a bucket with a hole in the bottom. So you stand it or just decide that you can't take it any longer and disappear.
  12. You are just to good Charles.
  13. I checked out Sneads Ferry on Google Maps, (took a "drive" down Riverside Dr.) Larry. Beautiful spot. Dern you ARE right on the edge of the world. Yet, you're so calm and cavalier about hurricanes... 'ho hum, another one, yawn'. Let's hope your good fortune continues. Not a very good forecast of what future annual hurricanes will be. You are right Dennis. We, old-timers, have kind of a second sense about them when to stay and when to go. I only know of one local that has ever lost their life to a hurricane and he was a young son of a friend of mine and he went in the ocean in a 14' boat at night just before the hurricane was to come onshore with a friend of his to get his gill net he had set earlier that day and lost his life. That was like 30 years ago. Yes, I hope my luck continues but I want you to know that I have left many times too. Thanks for taking the interest to take a drive. I could direct you to where the rich guys live and have more beautiful houses and lawns on the water. I'm not one of them. They all have been built in the last 10 years and building about 2000 a year at the present time. The drive that you took was there in 1973/5. If it took you all the way to the end there is a house on a small island there that is about 10,000 sqft. Yes, I'm not looking forward to it either and they seem to be getting stronger like predicted too. If my insurance keeps going up I will have to let the millionaires have it that can afford it. I've already sold one place on the beach.
  14. Thanks, guys. Everything is fine here in Sneads Ferry. No flooding and the power actually stayed on during the whole thing but a little north and south were not as lucky. Mostly north and in some parts of the county. It was like an umbrella was over us. The winds did get up to 90mph but no structural damage that anyone has reported. Looking to hear from Charles now.
  15. The Outer banks just north of us have a lot of wild horses (100) and are hurricane hardy for sure. They get to many of them to support their environment and have to be thinned out at times. They are adopted by local folks for the most part. Here is their story. I have never been there to see them and they are well protected by the National Park's Service. You are only allowed to get only so close to them and not disturb their natural actions. https://www.nps.gov/calo/learn/nature/horse-faqs.htm Charles, it seems we are going to get a little blow. Me more than you but I think things will be all right for us. You take care old friend.
  16. I see China has caught an alien space ship so I guess they do really exist. Nice place.
  17. I had pretty much the same thing to say but more then deleted it. I didn't want to start any trouble.
  18. Thanks, Randy for confirming my beliefs. The wife was inclined to buy a place in Beijing but I am not likewise minded. She does put a lot of stock in what you say. I don't think that I am any longer healthy enough to live in Beijing. Perhaps Yulin but that is a long way from the south of Beijing where they live and they have lived there so long they will certainly not be willing to move to Yulin. That is where all their friends are. You know how old folks are they have an aversion to moving around much. I am steering toward renting and like you say to keep our money in the US except for what we need on a month or two month's basis as much as three maybe.
