  1. An ongoing topic - click here for Most Recent Post I usually put these in a separate topic, but a collection is better for some. I'll continue posting my own pictures in my own topics. These are from China Highlights The Four Best China Karst Landscapes for Tourists Wulong in Chongqing
  2. from the Smithsonianmag Mini Terracotta Army Unearthed in China A Han Dynasty-era pit includes 300 soldiers, guard towers, farm animals and everything else a noble might need in the afterlife
  3. Anyone been? 1 or 2 days needed to see it? I heard 1 is ok because there is not actually much there to see. Any thoughts?
  4. The article includes a fascinating interactive graphic about how the warriors were made in the SCMP It’s the US museum’s fault our terracotta warrior’s thumb was stolen, says Chinese state media Broadcaster sent reporters and Chinese experts to Franklin Institute, where the thumb of one of the ancient relics was broken off and stolen
  5. https://america.cgtn.com/2017/10/27/ten-of-chinas-terracotta-warriors-march-their-way-to-us-exhibition Only 10 warriors on exhibit, but well worth seeing, especially if you have never been to Xian to see the awesomely impressive display there. Be sure to go to Xian to see the enormous display of thousands of warriors on your next trip to China. Also the food in Xian is quite memorable and they have a meat sandwich there (tastes a bit like smoked turkey to me, my wife's family is not from there -perhaps others here can help me with the description) that is their version of the famous Philadelphia cheesesteak, though without cheese. Cheese is one gift some of our friends and relatives appreciate from the USA, though many do not care for it. I love cheese with everything and my wife likes it quite a bit as well. She has introduced me too many new foods from all over China over the years and I have introduced her to many different cheeses. One of my favorite trips with her was when we went to a cheese factory in Holland (Netherlands). We stayed for hours sampling about 50 different cheeses. We also have been to cheese factories in Quebec and upstate New York. Haven't made it to Wisconsin yet, but it's on our list. Best, True Blue Cheese
  6. We will be flying out on Nanning R/T. Any of you fellows been to Xi'an? How many days would you recomend on visiting? The do's and don'ts of touring there. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
  7. from the Smithsonianmag Were the Terracotta Warriors Based on Actual People? To answer that question, archaeologists are looking at variations in the soldiers' ears http://thumbs.media.smithsonianmag.com//filer/c6/16/c6169fc7-2151-4d59-8bef-b1a0fc84866b/mar2015_h08_phenom.jpg__800x600_q85_crop.jpg
  8. We are going March 15-17 (plane tickets bought) and I really am anticipating seeing the terracotta warriors! "Today the walls of the Ming dynasty and the Tang palace walls hint at the Xi’an’s glorious past. Stare in awe at the Terracotta Army, 7,000 terracotta statues of Qin Bingmayong Bowuguan warriors and soldiers. Dating from 210 BCE, they were discovered in 1974 and are still being excavated. Don't miss the Shaanxi History Museum or a chance to heat up at former imperial bathing spot, Huaqing Hot Springs." So what are the essential things to do all in a weekend's time? hahaha Obviously, some choices have to be made... 9. Here is an interesting one. Blundering Chinese officials were forced to cut a motorway in half to go around a block of flats after they accidentally erected the building in its proposed path then realised it would cost too much to relocate the tenants. Construction workers had to squeeze the eight-lane highway into four and subsequently left furious residents stuck in the middle of a busy road. They had just been moved from their previous homes to make way for a park so refused to move again unless they were heavily compensated. So the council decided to save a small fortune by leaving the flats in place. http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad334/dnoblett/Misc%20Junk%20for%20posting/article-2448694-1894FE2400000578-709_634x423_zps092d3ad3.jpg http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad334/dnoblett/Misc%20Junk%20for%20posting/article-2448694-1893B9BB00000578-909_634x423_zpsb531dacd.jpg More: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2448694/China-builds-new-flats-path-motorway.html
