    Snow coming!

Reading the caption along with the photograph, people are calling the snowstorm 'snowpacolypse'. Pleeezzzeee!!! whadda bunch of whimps! DC is expecting maybe a foot. That's nothing to cry about. Damn! Anything to make a headline! The snow has already came and went my way and we probably got about 6 or 7 inches. Big Deal! I don't know what other places are getting. I moved out in this part of the state in 1991 and since then I've seen two snows that can be called a blizzard, let alone 'snowpocalypse'. One snow was in 1993 and the other in 1996. Those are the only two times it has really snowed. Each time was at least 30 inches of snow and probably more. And people are crying over a little 'ole 12 inches. I hate to see how they would act in snows like '93 and '96. The news would really have something to report on. EDIT, and not really edited! I was previewing my post when I opened the yahoo link, and guess waht? They have taken out the wore 'snowpacoplyse'!!! What do you call that??? because it was there when I read it. AAarrhhhh!......... Well, it is now gone but it was there! I guess no one will believe me now! http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Atlantic-Coa...09atlanticstorm
  3. Sorry so late in replying. I showed the links to my wife and she wanted them so I emailed them to her. My wife wanted me to make sure that I thank you for her. She says she appreciates it. Thanks sweetnov.
  4. Here's a cool site if you wanna ring made. This is where I got mine made right after we got married. My wife isn't interested in any rings or jewelry but I had to have one. The guy did a really good job with it, I was very pleased. I remember looking for a website that could make a ring and I knew exactly what I wanted. It was all in my head. I searched a long time trying to find a site when I finally came across this one. That was over seven years ago and I've been wearing it ever since. I never take it off, (it's probably stuck!) So, if you want a ring or have one in mind that you like to have I suggest checking this site out. I highly recommend it. http://5xj.com/chinese.html
  5. Totally naked marriage here. We went to the marrying office in China and got our little red book. That was it! My wife cares nothing about jewelry so no ring was ever given. I have a cool ring though. I had a ring of platinum silver made with her Chinese name on it! Again,,, another difference in cultures. That all happend over seven years ago now and we are happy.
  6. Well,,, that makes sense, (i've been saying that alot today, too). It was the Americans that scrambled the English out of the colonies. Why not take there language and scramble that too!
  7. I posted about this one time, about saving yahoo! chats. I haven't been to yahoo in a long time and I know it has changed considerably since then. But my wife and I chatted all the time on yahoo and I saved them all to notepad. Saving to notepad is crude and you lose all the graphics and text enhancements but it worked and it was thousands of chats I saved. I don't remember it taking too long but I still have them all. Good luck. I hope you find a way that is suitable for you. Don't lose them!
  8. I just love that quick "bumph-bumph" sound that makes and then looking back in the rear-view mirror!
  9. Taiwan is a touchy issue and has been for many years. The US should limit any sales to keep peace with China because China could easily take Taiwan. It is well in their reach. It would be like the US taking Cuba. The US has supported Taiwan all these years but peace with China should be kept first and foremost.
  10. A power mad Hitler type in the oval office???...don't be so paranoid. We'll make it. We'll even make it to election year of 2012. Then the people can make their choice. Maybe by then we'll be able to cast our votes via the internet!... We, the people, do not elect presidents in this country. Where did you go to school? Like the CCC, the president here is elected by the electoral college! We do not live in a democracy! The popular vote elects the elector...... the popular vote- my vote! Sorry to dissapoint you.....guess again.....or....look up special electors of the electoral college on the internet. Also, all of the electors do not have to vote the way they were told to vote for a candidate by their State. The last election hinged on Special electors that were appointed by political big wigs.....Knowledge is an awakening thing.... I can't agree with you. The popular vote is the driving force in the presidential election and the electorial vote is something set up in the constitution when the country was founded however it is used. I don't care to argue or get into any details about it all because I really don't care. I know what I know and I know that it is the people's vote that elects the president. You only have to look at the modern day landslides to see that is true, Nixon in 1972 and Reagan in 1984. With the overwhelming majority of popular votes in both races, do you think the electorial college would have chosen McGovern or Mondale over the people? Nope, sorry guy, it don't work that way. Again, I don't care to get into the intricacies of it all but it is the popular vote that guides the way, not the electorial. Our nation was founded on these principals and it's worked well for over 200 years now and the people would stand for nothing less. Who are we to argue that? I'm not a conspiracy nut but do you think a "power mad Hitler type" individual would ever be voted into office by the people, or the electorial college over the people for that matter? You need to get your priorities in line.

  13. She wants to be an assistant teacher she says. She wasn't too clear about it so I think maybe she's not really sure. But she bought the big GRE book and is now studying away!...And yes, she learned about it from a web forum on Wenxue City which is pretty much gospel to her.
  14. What's your point? Are you saying that China is not a good place to live? What do you suppose the opinion of the 1.3 billion people that live here in China might be regarding the standard and quality of life they are experiencing? Do you believe most Chinese are unhappy about their life here, or require a foreigner to enlighten about the ways other cultures do things? Taking cheap shots again I see. You need to lighten up. Not everyone has to like China as you so redundantly see it, and then attack people who speak out against it. Again... quit crying!
  15. I don't know what it is exactly but my wife has embarked on preparations to take the GRE exam. She is excited about it, bless her heart, she tries. She wants to work so bad but nothing has ever came through for her in getting a job. I think this test will give her some confidence and maybe it will pay off for her. I don't know how she learned about it. I never heard of it. She must've learned about it on Wenxue City. Well, as I've told her, I wish her the best. Just by supporting her on this gives her confidence and that makes me happy. She is really excited about it! Here is the official website for the GRE Exam. I found it out trying to learn something about it. Has anyone else experienced this? http://www.takethegre.com/?utm_source=Yaho...2B2009%20Market
  16. SIX years later...HAPPY BIRTHDAY MRS. DU!
  17. I just thought dnoblett was simply tying two related threads together. Not sure what is wrong with that. I'm trying to figure it out thus deletion of my previous post. Like the current administration, accountability seems to be an 'apparition' around here. What appears today is not the same as what appeared before, but who's complaining?! Certainly not I!...I was only pointing out its occurrence.
  18. Ben Zhang must've seen that old Seinfeld episode... "there nothing wrong with that". I can't see China tolerating homosexuality. Mao would've shot them all! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100115/ap_on_...na_mr_gay_china
  19. I have to agree with Tony. Women are Women!........
  20. It's surely something that continues to spark a good deal of debate. It flat pisses the europeans off for someone to suggest they didn't do the discovering. Here's a link to an older CNN story on the topic: http://edition.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/books/...1421/index.html Fate intervened, or should I say, the new emperor, who was more interested in building and fortification of the great wall than he was in land and sea exploration. In fact, once in power, the emperor ordered the ships burned thus ending any chance of China in discovering the "new world" but, under the previous emperor, they were on the right coarse, they were so close. Under the old emperor and Zhang He's ships, China could have very well discovered the new world... but it never happend. That's fate at the flip of a coin.
  21. thank god for the British Navy ~Theatrum Orbis Terrarum~ This map was published by a flemish cartographer in 1570. Later, this mapmaker was appointed geographer to King Phillip II of Spain. The Chinese maps were published by a jesuit priest from Italy. This priest is buried in Beijing.
  22. This is a part of the 1602 map depicting Gansu Province and the Gobi Desert of China:- http://i50.tinypic.com/2j5gfb5.jpg
  23. This map, made in 1602, by the request of the emperor of China, shows Cuba and the Americas. The map places China at the center of the known world. The map measures 12 x 5 ft. Interesting! In addition to Cuba, shown is Florida and the Keys, the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. Not bad for an early 17th century map, ... and a map for China. http://i48.tinypic.com/15kcow.jpg http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100112/ap_on_....p1EwpbaRtsaMYA
  24. This thread reminds me of the 'Dating Room' CFL once had... It sure could come in handy now. Well wishes for your neice, John.
