  4. This may be a generational thing. Jun was as much about celebrating birthdays (hers, her brother's, mine, my dad's, her dog's...) as any American I knew. Could be Jason. My wife is more like his. Well, last year on my birthday, not only did my wife forget (didn't remember), she started to argue with me! I just shrugged it off because I know her demeanor. She hasn't any feelings about birthdays, it's just another day to her. She doesn't know her mother's birthday but I guess it's just as well. Her mother doesn't know her own birthday either! In addition, my wife's passport, birth certificate, etc. shows her birth year as 1962 but her university documents show her born in 1959 which would make her older than me!...Go figure! We talked about that one time ans she's very sensitive about it. I would tease her and say that I've always been keen to older women!...lol. She would turn red as a beet. She says that her parents "fibbed" about her age to get her enrolled into elementary school at an earlier time. She says that was a common practice among people back in those days.
  5. Birthdays don't seem too be as important with the Chinese as they are here with Americans in the United States. In the US we celebrate with cake and ice cream and we try not to forget a birthday but my wife shows no such inclinations like that. I learned from her that birthdays aren't that important. She hardly remembers mine but I remember hers. I've always been good at remembering birthdays anyways. Thus, another difference in cultures I have learned.

  8. Our (my wife's) story is too depressing to talk about. She's been here over six years and cannot find a job. She's a remarkable woman. She's a caring soul and that's what I love about her the most.

They were killed in the riots. The story shows that there are friends among the Uighers and the Han. Having common goals and interest made them friends. That is true with any nationality of people. They become friends. It's ashame that such turmoil comes about but that is also true with any nationality of people. They will always fight.
  10. This topic certainly has jumped the track. It's supposed to be about 'Ethnic Minorities'. But since it has derailed, let's talk about 'Sonia Sotomayer'. She's of an ethnic group which is not to far off the subject topic. So,,,what do you think of her?
  11. I still remember it. I remember trying to keep from falling asleep in front of the television!...lol. All the family was watching it. I still have alot of momentos of the Apollo 11 landing that I got back then. I have a giant scrapbook full of newspaper articles covering the entire apollo mission, articles from the newspaper The Virginian Pilot and the Ledger Star. I haven't looked through it in a long time. Yep, an amazing time!

  16. It's been reported that Chinese security forces opened fired on peaceful protesters. So, who knows what to believe or who is actually at fault. I've read where up to a thousand people where killed. I don't know what to believe. So all I can do is to blame both sides. The truth will never be known. I feel sorry for them.

  19. I always played it safe and filled out a new one. I wouldn't rely on copies. Some of these IO's can be particular. Transcripts will do. I used them when I did the form. Good Luck!
  20. Put whatever your current annual income is. Not being very helpful. If paid a salary, your spouse should know what will be paid this year. If hourly, then estimate what will be paid this year. It's a simple question. I didn't clutter it up with a bunch of junk but answered it straightfoward. How difficult can that be? Yeah, put the current annual income down- that simple!

  22. The EAD worked for my wife the first time and was good as long as the EAD was but after the EAD expired we ran into a little trouble. I took the I-797C acceptance notice for the I-485 to DMV and crammed that into their face. After argueing with them they accepted it, so the I-797C will work in most cases. It proves legal presence. You have to stand strong with these people and let them know because they don't know. But do yor research on your DMV website first, search word -legal presence-. Study it and print what you think you need to take to the DMV. Show them that you've done your "homework".
  23. I think I have said this; "I'm not taking sides" because both sides are guilty of atrocities as far as I can gather. The area in turmoil is half a world away and all we can do is rely on whatever reporting we can receive. The west will put their spin on it and China state-run media will report whatever they see good for the Party. You have to weigh it out from both sides for yourself and come up with your own supposal until/unless we get a report from a reliable source that we all can take in as the truth. Anyone know any source like that?
