The guard asks if you are here for visa, passport, or legal forms (notary, certification, etc.) He asks if you have all your paperwork. Then he punches something in the machine, the numbers come out, A#, B#, and C#. I am not sure, but I think the pick-up window also had numbers, but the line was very short or non-existent. They are 2 different offices of the US Consulate, located in Guangzhou. The US Embassy is located in Beijing. In Chicago, the The Chinese Consulate has 2 different offices, one is for visa and passport processing and other public services. The other is the main Consulate office. For the K-1/K-3, the completed forms are sent to the Consulate by the Beneficiary. For the CR-1/IR-1 the documents and completed forms are sent to the NVC in the US and then forwarded to the Consulate by the NVC. I hope this makes the mud a little clearer, Good Luck, Mike & Yizhen

They should have gotten it out by Friday night, and the Post Office is not usually closed for 3 straight days, maybe Sunday or Monday, Tuesday at the latest. Good Luck, Mike & Yizhen

If you own a home and itemize deductions, you will need a reg. 1040, and you will want to get that social security# so you can get the stimulus credit. Mike & Yizhen

Did you get this visa yourself? Were you there in-person? Maybe you should have checked the visa before you left the consulate. If it was a visa service, they should take care of the problem, at their expense, very quickly. I am not sure what problems you might have with the wrong visa type, but you don't want your trip ruined when you are not allowed to enter China. After all the discussion here about the different visa restrictions and available durations, we chose to apply for a 2 year, multi-entry, with 90 day stays. It was no problem, the woman looked in my visa, and asked if I had proof of marriage to a Chinese citizen. I had the "little red book", she made a copy and away we go! To my surprise, the fee for the 2 years is the same as 1 year $130. The 90 days was not really a requirement for this trip, but it could come into play over the next 2 years. Thanks to everyone who put their $.02 into the visa threads so we could be aware of the options. Mike & Yizhen By the way Chicago Consulate was very busy, 90 minutes on Monday am, and pick-up on Friday unless you pay extra. Drop off in the am and $30 to pick-up same day pm. They have a number system now! You can get your number and go for coffee or breakfast.

You are not waiting for a phone call, you are getting the information early by calling before the packages are delivered. You call the NVC and ask for the GUZ number, and you call the DOS to find out when the interview is, hopefully you will be calling everyday, and you will know 5 to 10 days early, five extra days to get plane tickets and prepare for the interview/trip

There have reports of 30 day approvals in 2009, this speed up along with the new NVC payment processing, can take several months off the time. Maybe we will see the K-3 eliminated, and the K-1 and CR-1/IR-1 times running close, who knows, maybe they will start something new that slows it down. The letter(P-2.5), tells you that your case has been sent to GUZ, it also gives you your GUZ number, so you can call the (dept. of state) DOS visa information call center 202-663-1225 then 1 then 0 to get information on you case. You will find out the date the P-3 is sent, if you are prepared, your fiancee can send the P-3 docs back before she receives the package. After you return the P-3 docs, then you are given an interview date, (the P-4) you can get this date up to a week before your fiancee receives the P-4 from the DOS visa info line. You could have an extra week to prepare for your trip if you are going to be there for the interview.Mike & Yizhen

You should be able to call the NVC and get your GUZ number, that is all you get when you receive the notice that your case has been forwarded to GUZ, RELAX, PREPARE, AND WAIT! Good Luck, Mike & Yizhen

We stayed with the Yangs before, and we tried several others including dylan's, and they were all higher when we finally had the exact dates. We will be staying 11 days. We are very comfortable with the Yangs, the price is right, and location is perfect. We have been to GUZ 3 times already, and we are looking forward to our time there. We are very familiar with the city, we have some favorite restaurants, and we have had some Yizhen's family even come to show us around. Her brother is a prominent business man, and he travels often. We will be taking the new version of the DS-230 part II with us, you can fill it in before you print. It could be very exciting, there are 5 other couples that will be in GUZ during our stay! The doorbell just rang, it was FED EX, we got something unexpected! They sent the P-4 FED EX! I think it was as fast as mailing to Liuzhou in China! It should have been here yesterday (only 5 days), but the driver can't read, he tried to deliver to 9656 instead of 9616 not even close. He needs glasses. We had no GIV-24, and there was a DS-230, Part 2, printed front and back. It was the old version. Do you think they will accept the new version? We also got our plane tickets today. Mr. Yang says there is a fair, and the prices are higher, called several others and they all said the same thing. We will be staying with Yang.
