When I went to see yan a few years ago she made the hotel reservations. It seems that she found some good deals on the web and "she further talked her way to more discounts". There has been a hotel building boom in Beijing the last few years. This with the slow economy deals are to be made. She could talk to a travel agent and find out more ideas. She always had travel agents buy the airline tickets for her and they would have further information about good hotel deals in Bejing. On friday nights you can find Yan and myself rolling down the road to make a few stops with the company truck. It is about a 3 hour run in a 26 foot box truck. Every week is different as to what time we leave the company loading dock. We can finish the run before 11 pm or 4am. It just depends on how quickly we can get the days production done in the plant. Yan enjoys being in the truck and we do get some together time while on the company clock. One thing about this is Yan falls asleep very fast while the truck is moving down the highway. We can worry about many things (most of which we are not allowed to discuss on this board) but the break up of the united states is not one of them.This being said I can see the worry that china would have at our printing press working overtime to bail us out of the mess we are now in. Inflation really taking off and the value of the notes they hold falling out of sight. Will someday in the future china offer "suggestions" in dealing with US policy in the same manner that is being played out in washington with the bankers being scolded.

Yan also left her son in china. Her ex had custody. She saw the son on weekends. Does she love him very much. YES Right now he is in a boarding school. He returns weekends to his father's home. He was 13 when she came to this country. We are in the process of bringing him over here as my stepson. The ex agreeded to give up custody so the son can study in the US,If he decides to return to china in the future after he receives his degree more doors would be open for him in china. She is a warm loveing woman. In the chinese culture hard decisions are made that we THINK we could never make. A husband and wife both leave the children to seek work in another city . Only to return once a year to the grand parents home during spring festival time. They have learned to "eat bitter". This is so at least one child can go to a good school and university. Everything is about surviving. It is a call that is made in million's of households across china yearly. Just be prepared for the day she would like him here in your household sometime in the future. If not then money will be sent back across the pond to support him and put him in a good university.In a nutshell none of this is strange for the chinese.

Furthermore, it is precisely in the regions of low natural seismicity where the major existing problems lie, because in areas of high seismicity dams are usually designed for substantial earthquake resistance anyway. The unhappy current state of affairs is that our degree of understanding of reservoir-induced earthquakes is so minimal that almost no new reservoir anywhere in the world can be declared free of this possible danger. In particular, we do not know why such earthquakes occur, and we cannot as yet recognize with confidence those areas where reservoir-induced earthquakes are more likely than at other localities. It is easy to say that the geology and seismo-tectonics of a given site are different from those at Koyna, for example, but until we understand what it is in the physical environment of Koyna that led to the triggering of earthquakes there, this is not a very meaningful statement. I have not ever seen anything from yan. We have a friend who is from South Africa and is black. She has advised yan a great deal on how to cope and survive in the united states. The number one thing in yan's opinion she advised was to get an american diploma. A degree from any other country is worthless. This is what she has seen. This woman has a doctorate degree and has been through the ringer.She was to teach in the city school system for the second year and one day before the school year was to start they said a question about a course that she took in South Africa came to light and she could not teach full time. She is now a sub ....that is ok for them. Crazy ..... My ex chinese girlfriend did not like anyone from India.She would say some pretty nasty stuff that I care not to voice here.

However if it is a question of $$$$ to make the 125% above poverty line then work on getting proof of assets. A noterized statement from a bank officer attesting to your bank account. IRA's and 401k's are an asset. How much value you have in your home minus what is owed. You should be able to overcome this without problems. Get the blue slip and see what is required.

Years ago I flew into Beijing on chinese newyears eve. Fireworks were going off around the plane. Not close mind you but to watch them explode at that level was indeed different. I was headed to Tianjin (TEDA) and an american family was onboard. Schoolteachers arriving back from the christmas holiday in america. The husband said the year before the holiday inn was on fire from fireworks as they flew into beijing.One sight that stood out in my mind was a roll of fireworks exploding up the side of a 4-5 story building. I understood that the fireworks were pretty exspensive for the average chinese to afford. I wish everyone on this board could be over there at least once during this time.
