  1. Hi all, My wife and I are coming up on two years for her now in the US (this November) and I am unsure of what my next step is. Will the Government contact me? Do I need to contact them? Any info on what we should be doing next is well appreciated. And apologies if this has been asked before (I'm sure it has :/). Appaullo
  2. Amen to that. I've learned to either take my socks off or put shoes on before I go in the bathroom after she showers; Appaullo
  3. Thats what we're looking into now on the uscis.gov site. But I cant seem to find which form we would need to fill out.
  4. Hey all ... is it too soon to start considering my mother in law coming to US for a visit? I dont know, I figure I could start now to get the visa process rolling ... not sure how long it will take. If its not too early what should be my first steps? I see elligible family is spouses and children. Does this mean that my mother in law does not qualify? TIA, Appaullo
  5. We were looking at buying a new car for my wife and when I asked about putting it in her name the salesman told me it would not be possible as she has no credit buyilt up yet. He said a good way to establish her future credit was to put her on as a co-signer for the loan.
  6. Fantastic news!! Congratulations to the wife and son!
  7. My wife is inquiring about getting her Driver's Liscence in the state of Michigan. I stopped on the way home today and they told me at the office my wife needs her Soc sec Num, her I-551, and a laundry list of materials issued here in the US ... none of which we can obtain, the last item on the list was a second item from list number 2, one of which is her passport with stamped I-94. My wife does not have the I-94. The woman then proceeded to tell me my wife would have to change her name, then have the Chinese Government change the name on our marriage certificate to my last name and have it forwarded here. Needless to say I find this all very doubtful. Once home I called the sec state and asked all this to an employee who put me through to a higher supervisor because this was, in his words : "Complicated." I relayed the above story again to the supervisor who told me to bring the soc sec number, passport/Visa/I-551 and a copy of the marriage cert with notary and english translation, plus bills in my name and the office would then make copies and send the info on to Homeland security who would then approve her being able to take the exam. I asked how long this would take and she told me "Who knows with Homeland Security." In any event I am relaying all of this in hopes there is another CR-1 in Michigan who can come to my aid here with some helpful information on any of this. The whole thing seems like its more hoops to jump through than necessary.
  8. Agreed. The first time I changed money at a bank in China I asked my wife why it took so long ... she replied "Is normal time for this." Since then I refuse to change money at a bank unless I absolutely have to. Hotel is much easier IMO.
  9. My wife and I went to the local Community College this afternoon to query about enrolling her into ESL classes. The advisor who spoke with us told us he needs to see her original Diploma from her college back in China. Are all ESL classes like this? Or is this only because its a college?
  10. Sort of related to topic .... my wife enjoys garlic so much when cooking that when I stopped by my mother's this morning she informed me I was starting to smell like garlic. Hehe ... she told me not to worry, garlic is good for the body and the smell will eventually fade.
  11. Sorry I'm late on this, but Congratulations!!
  12. Bring the X-ray. My wife did'nt need hers at her POE, but she brought it along just in case. Better safe than sorry, right?
  13. I am taking my wife Monday morning to get her social security number. She is CR1, so I am assuming all we need to bring with us is her passport with Visa in it? Or am I incorrect on this assumption? Thanks, Appaullo
  14. Looking forward to good news!! Good luck (wether you need it or not )!!
  15. ok, will check with Radio Shack. As for the MagSafe adapter ... I have no idea what she uses to charge her laptop currently. Once she gets settled I am going to have her pick out an apple desktop for her office here in America. I know zero about apple and macs ... I'm a PC guy.
  16. OK all ... my wife has an apple macbook computer. I need to get an adapter to convert from Chinese prong to american prongs for plugging in to recharge. Its a laptop computer. Any suggestions?
  17. Agree. I think you should go to the interview if you can only afford one trip. As for making two trips, thats fine also. But I think it would be wise to attend ACH / ACS.
