  1. Which song? The song about welcoming the guests didn't impress me a bit.
  2. I don't see any way that she could get your son a Chinese citizenship. I agree with what Trigg said.
  3. I hope your killer friends not offended by the no show. I hope they don't get at you next time they see you. Be careful.
  4. Sounds like you don't want to leave. Hope both you and Zixuan gets more good treatments your bodies and souls need. Too bad my husband doesn't believe in any doctor. He is so thin. Yet, it is a forbidden topic. Just the other day, I subtly touched on the topic of him feeding himself more and he jumped right at me saying I eat too much. It is such a shame that I could not do anything about this.
  5. When my parents went for their interview last summer, neither my husband nor myself have steady jobs. We didn't provide any I-134. My parents took family photos, my sister's employer letter (to show her job in China and income), my parents' owner certificates of their apartments, their bank account information, etc. I provided an invitation letter, evidence of the relationship, copy of my green card, marriage certificate, things like that.
  6. The most important is to provide evidence that your mother intend to return to China. This is the key for non-immigrant visa. For example, information about your mother-in-law's financial status in China, information about your wife's sibblings, etc. If your father-in-law will remain in China, that can be a good evidence, too.
  7. I would have to say Chinese movies are just as violent only they use Kung Fu instead of a pistol fu. Western culture did not invent violence. It has been around since Cain & Able! Japanese movies top them all in violence and gore. If crime increases in China it will do so as the gap between the haves and the have-nots increases. Westernization and violent movies, from any country, will have little to do with it IMHO. I agree. As for violence, I think, proportionally, there would be less violence, because people would care about their life more. The target is money.
  8. 120lb x $1.00/lb = $120. No worries
  9. It is a little difficult for the newly arrived Chinese wives to make close Chinese friend due to some reasons: - If the Chinese wife doesn't work, the only thing she can talk about with the other Chinese ladies would be closely related to their family, i.e., their American husband. Certainly you would not like your wife comparing notes with others about you, or would you? Your wife might also like to keep these personal matters private. Therefore, there is lack of topic for making friendly talks. - Another related issue is that when you see the Chinese women around as good candidate as your wife's friends, the only thing they have in common are that they may have stayed in the same country or even same city before, and of course they are all Chinese. This is as if to say that I should be able to make friend with all women in Shanghai, since I lived there for a few years. - At last, your definition of "friends" can be different from your wife's definition of "friends". I noticed, women are pickier on their identification of friends. They don't call anyone they can talk to "friends". There got to be a deeper relationship to it. I have a good neighbor, a senior lady who lives alone. I chat with her almost every time I see her, listen to her complaints (about other things), drive her to stores, take her to lunch, etc. I like her and she is nice, but I don't call her a friend, because I would not be able to carry out any deep talk with her, and she would not be much interested in knowing my family, my culture, my opinions of life in general either. - Chinese ladies don't make friends based on whether that person would be any use later on. However, one expect their friends to pitch-in when there is difficulty. If a person don't help while he/she is able to, that person then disqualifies as a friend. .... Just some thoughts, not quite organized.
  10. Of course the violence of the protestors pales in comparison to the level of violence inflicted by the chinese govt upon the Tibetans and the attempt to obliterate their culture by flooding the region with Han's is shameful What do you mean by "the violence inflicted by teh chinese govt upon the Tibetans"? What do you mean by "the attempt to obliterate their culture by flooding the region with Han's"? This link gives some insight into the matter Joanne. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Ti...public_of_China While I don't believe that Tibet should necessarily be independent of China, to believe that China has been always been gentle and kind to it's wayward child would be naive. Particularly during the cultural revolution when the red guard detroyed many historical artifacts in both China and Tibet. Cultural revolution is always in history. Does anyone want to deal with it now? in which way?
  11. Unless he knows Traditional Chinese Medicine, I can see where western doctors won't agree with diet restrictions.. but will be interesting to hear any comments. Right. The explanation is doomed to fail if everything has to be interpreted through ther terminologies of the (western) science (let's try not to argue about what is the definition of "science" ).

  13. There are several types of Lasik tools. The wavefront analysis tool can correct for the non-normal curvature of the eye. You might want to check into which generation of the tool they have. Interesting to know... she just called and they gave the ok to do the surgery... within the hour... Keep my fingers crossed.
  14. Nautilus always stressed the 4 second push and 10 second release. A lot of work has been done to show the advantage of the slow lift and release for strength improvement. Combined with Yoga it should really help you. Right now I only go to Yoga one night a week, in my old town i was able to 3 nights a week. They don't have Nautilus here, but I've used that in the past... I tend to mix between high set repetition, resistance training (slow on the down--fast on the up, and regular sets. but I'm not interested in strength anymore, I'd rather be flexibly stronger). They yoga is much more difficult than I expected, meaning strength-wise, not just postures; kind of strength balancing. I'm hoping to stick with this as I don't have the energy to get up so early to do tai chi.. so I've decided to drop that idea; seems my clock has truly turned around; I'm anti-morning here now! Do 10 or more sun salutations and that will give you a good start to the work out. Plus, they have few othes that will give you a good strength building with blance. I greatly imporve my fitness just with yoga, including cardio. Many people think Yoga does not help cardio but it does. My favorite is praying tree pose. When I made the tai chi rounds a few weeks ago, there are many who take the tree prayer seriously; in front of a tree... and those who do tree shouting (to improve the lungs)... Anyways, since I have bad knees, the yoga is hard on them. I cannot even sit cross legged very long... But since most of the movements are not that long in duration, it is a good way to build up my knee tolerance too eventually higher levels and maybe longer postures. The other problem is my lack of flexibility from hips to shoulders... It must be a pathetic sight from behind me to see a body in such disrepair... The amazing thing with yoga is that you can see your own progress from one day to another.
  15. I attended a nation-wide (or even world-wide) event sponsored by the National committee on US-China Relations, the Foreign Policy Research Institute and local entities. It is a webcast followed by on-site briefing and Q&A. The webcast is a talk giving by a political analyst Norman J. Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute. My understanding gained from the talk is that, most of those China-related issues were dragged under spotlight because of the upcoming election. We should expect more storms in media in the next few months. However, the relations between US and China may just go on as usual, except both will be hit by the economic downturn. I forgive, because I heard that Americans are now at the most unhappy point in history. They need a place to vent.
  16. Your life in China is Jue(2) Dui(4) Fu(3) Bai(4)! I am waiting for my turn in 3 and half months.
  17. We are going to China during the Olympics, but not for the game.
  18. It is OK for the husband to be old. Even a 30 year gap is no big deal.
  19. Congratulations Dennis!!! A victory well deserved!!!! Yes, yes! You are the hero, Dennis!
