  1. They were more worried that the better universities are biased against students from the community colleges. Thank, Dylan, it is nice to know these from an insider.
  2. Thank you so much, Dylan and Dennis, for your prompt reply. I will let my friends know. They live in CA. They should feel quite a relief hearing this. They have been very worried. Thanks!!
  3. Hello - I am posting for friends. They have a daughter who is 18 year old. Today they tried to register her into a local high school and were told that the girl is already 18, she could only finish her high-school education in an adult school. Also, after she get her diploma, her only option of higher education is to attend a community college. Is this true? Thanks!
  4. Don't know how I could miss that anouncement. It is so great! Congratulations! Let training beging soon.
  5. I came to US with my immigrant visa first in Dec 2005. Then I returned to China in Aug 2006 with daughter and stayed for 4 months. I didn't give a thought about the potential problem. When I returned, the immigrant officer did ask why I stayed away for so long. I told him the truth: because I still have work to do in China. It didn't occur to me that my answer would bring any trouble. It didn't. But I don't know if it was only because the officer was friendly and relaxed.
  6. My husband lived in China for over 6 years when I applied for the visa. We used his parents address, which is also his permanent address. No problem for us.
  7. That's a cute puzzle. However, your hint is misleading.
  8. I think the key is to demonstrate your parents' strong ties to China. The following documents help: - their income situation: salary, income, etc. - your siblings' situation; - your parent's properties, and other information about their financial status. The key is to show that they are inclined to return after a short visit. It would be good to write a short letter of invitation. Summarize the visiting plan and intention of returning. Different from immigrant visas, when applying for a visitor visa, the VOs first assume that the applicants intend to immigrate, then use evidence to help them eliminate that assumption. I guess nobody knows exactly how a case is reviewed. When my parents applied, the VO hardly looked at anything they submitted, and approved within a couple of minutes after one or two easy questions. We made sure that my parents didn't overstay their visa, so that to build a good track record.
  9. That's a good suggestion. Being there a few times. I have always enjoyed that.
  10. Got a move in date? Congratulations for the new home!
  11. With your earlier hint, my best guess is ÆH.
  12. Shall you find another Chinese character to decribe the same thing? Right. It's a pun/homynym. (ͬÒô´Ê£© I am not very smart on this subject.
  13. Shall you find another Chinese character to decribe the same thing?
  14. Jiu Zai Gou is not far from the earth quake region. The roads were damaged this summer. you need to check before you go.
  15. Next time ask for 5RMB if they want to use Richard as their costum. My husband has more photos with strangers than with me.
  16. If you get a chance, go to Jinmao building. Have a cup of coffee at the hotel lobby on the 56th floor (or 54th, can't remember clearly). The view you will never forget. (Not the bar at the top of the building.)
  17. Our former home is 15 minutes walk away. The photos bring the many fond memories back.
  18. Great photos!! Amanda, if I am a fortune teller, I would like to tell you that you need to have no fear about your future with Richard.
  19. You have your priorities straight love trumps silly arguments over things we have no control over anyway. Am I old enough to be unca?? holy crap. I was the youngest member here the day I joined I'm going to bed and rest my old bones. Your wisdom makes you sound like a Unca.. By that logic I would no longer qualify... By that logic you would be the unca's unca.

  21. I think I am addicted somewhat. Fortunately I have my child and husband to take care of, so I am not too crazy.
